Madison

I took a bite, the perfectly poached egg bursting in my mouth. Despite my nervousness, I had to admit the food was incredible.

Alexander's voice cut through my thoughts. "Enjoying your breakfast?" His eyes glinted with amusement as if he knew exactly what he was doing to me.

"Yes, it's delicious," I replied, focusing on my plate.

"Good. I like watching you eat." He took a leisurely sip of his coffee, his gaze never leaving me. "Especially when you're trying so hard to concentrate."

Heat crept up my neck again. "It's just really good food," I said, steadying my voice.

He smirked. "Is that so? Or are you just avoiding looking at me because you remember what we started in the car earlier?"

I swallowed hard, refusing to rise to his bait. Instead, I took another bite of my eggs benedict.

"We left something unfinished back there." His foot brushed against my leg again under the table. "I'm more than willing to continue now."

"Mr. Knight," I warned softly, glancing around the

MadisonShe turned back to Alexander. "We really must catch up properly, Alex. Away from all this noise and pretense." She gestured vaguely at the gala around us. "Dinner next week? I'll have my assistant call yours." Her eyes flicked briefly to me, the implication clear. Alexander took a sip of his scotch, neither accepting nor declining her invitation. "You've certainly made an impact tonight," he said instead. "Gabriel seemed impressed with your expansion plans." "Business was always foreplay for you," Katherine laughed, touching his arm again. "Some things truly never change." I sipped my drink, the gin burning pleasantly down my throat. The conversation continued around me, Katherine expertly weaving tales of her London successes while dropping intimate references to her past with Alexander. "Remember that little bistro in Paris?" and "You always did prefer the Amalfi Coast to the French Riviera." Each casual mention stung like a paper cut, reminding me of their shared histor

MadisonI stood perfectly still, the champagne flute clutched in my hand like a lifeline. Alexander's face remained frustratingly neutral as he regarded Katherine—not excited, not cold, just unreadable. "How long are you in New York?" Gabriel asked Katherine, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "Indefinitely," she replied. "I've leased office space for Sinclair Luxe's American headquarters. We're launching the winter collection here first, before Paris." "Bold move," Alexander commented, taking a measured sip of his scotch. Katherine's laugh was musical, practiced to perfection. "When have I ever been anything but bold, darling?" She leaned closer to him, lowering her voice to a near-whisper. "Remember Barcelona? That rooftop bar where we nearly—" "The auction is starting soon," Alexander interrupted, checking his watch. "We should find our seats." Relief washed over me. At least he hadn't let her finish whatever intimate memory she was trying to resurrect. Gabriel clapped his

MadisonKatherine stepped forward, wrapping her arms around Alexander in a familiar embrace. "It's been far too long, darling. I've missed our little adventures." She pulled back, her perfectly manicured hand lingering on his arm. "One dance for old times' sake? I promise I won't step on your toes like I used to." Alexander remained rigid, neither returning her embrace fully nor pushing her away. "Katherine. When did you get back from London?" I felt my stomach twist. He had been getting calls from her; he must have known she was returning. Why hadn't he mentioned it? "Just flew in last night," Katherine replied, her crimson lips curving into a smile that held secrets. "I'm expanding Sinclair Luxe to the States. Starting with New York, naturally." Her eyes sparkled with confidence. "The London market has been conquered. Time for new challenges." Alexander nodded, his face a perfect mask of neutrality. Not excited to see her, but not dismissive either. Just... blank. Professional.

Madison"What are you thinking about?" he asked, breaking the comfortable silence. A dozen answers flashed through my mind. Who called you earlier? Why did you say Katherine's name that night? What happens when our year is up? Instead, I said, "Just wondering if I can walk tomorrow after what you did to me." "If not, I'll carry you." "Into the office? That would start some rumors." "Let them talk." His arm tightened around me. "I don't care what they think." But I did. I cared what people thought when they saw us together, whether they believed I'd slept my way to my position or if they respected me as a professional. "Hey," Alexander said, sensing my shift in mood. "What's going on in that beautiful head of yours?" I hesitated, then decided on a partial truth. "Just thinking about work tomorrow." He studied me for a moment, clearly not buying it, but nodded. "Always so dedicated, Ms. Harper." "Someone has to keep Knight Industries running smoothly." "Such a dedicated emplo

MadisonFive minutes stretched into eternity. I resisted the urge to press my ear against the bedroom door, to eavesdrop on his conversation. Instead, I refilled my wine glass and tried to look casual when he finally emerged. Alexander returned as if nothing had happened, his face a perfect mask of neutrality. He'd put his boxer briefs back on but remained gloriously shirtless, his abs rippling as he moved toward me. "Where were we?" he asked, voice husky as he pulled me against him. I wanted to ask who called. The question burned on my tongue. Who was so important they could interrupt us? Was it her? "What?" Alexander asked, noticing my hesitation. "Nothing," I replied, forcing a smile. It wasn't my business. It wasn't my place. His eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't press. Instead, he took my hand, leading me toward his bedroom. "I think it's time I properly fucked you, Ms. Harper." My core clenched at his words. "Is that a promise, Mr. Knight?" "It's a guarantee." He pus

MadisonWe ate in charged silence, the air between us thick with anticipation. When I took my last bite, Alexander stood and collected our plates. "Leave them," I said, reaching for his hand. He shook his head. "Patience." In the kitchen, he loaded the dishwasher while I wiped down the counters. The domestic scene felt surreal, given the sexual tension crackling between us. "You're staring," he said without looking up. "Just appreciating the view." My eyes traced the lines of his back, the way his jeans hugged his ass. He turned, catching me mid-appraisal. His gaze traveled slowly down my body, lingering on my breasts, my hips, my legs. He closed the distance between us, caging me against the counter with his arms. "You drive me fucking crazy, you know that?" "Good." I ran my hands up his chest. "The feeling's mutual." His mouth claimed mine in a hungry kiss, his tongue demanding entrance. I opened for him, moaning as his hands gripped my waist, lifting me onto the counter.
