My mate is the bravest patrol chief of the Sundara Pack. When the rogue straps a bomb laced with wolfsbane to me, I try to reach him through our mind-link. Once, twice... He blocks me 99 times. The rogue forces me to call for help, and when Aiden Campbell finally answers, his first words come blazing with anger. "Lina Rutherford! You're risking your life over jealousy again? Kate's pet snow wolf has been stuck in a tree for three days! "She loves that wolf like her own child—if I'm late to save it, that's on you! You'll be a murderer!" I laugh so hard that tears stream down my face. That so-called "trapped" snow wolf? It's simply climbed onto a slanted pine tree in the yard so it can lazily sunbathe on the branches. No one trapped it—it just doesn't feel like coming down. "Thank you, Aiden. You're amazing!" There comes a soft, delicate voice through the phone. It's Kate Summers—Aiden's late brother's widow and also his childhood sweetheart. The bomb's countdown ticks down to three minutes. With a calm heart, I send my final message. "In the name of the Moon Goddess, I sever our mate bond." And then, I cut the mind-link.

Chapter 1

My mate, Aiden Campbell, was the bravest patrol chief of the Sundara Pack. Meanwhile, I was kidnapped by the rogue he once exiled. The rogue strapped a bomb loaded with a massive amount of wolfsbane onto me.

He yanked my hair viciously and asked, "You're Aiden's mate, aren't you? Tell him to get over here right now!"

I tried to establish a mind-link with him. I tried once, then again… And he blocked me 99 times in total.

I was forced to call Aiden on the phone for help, but when he finally answered, he sounded extremely annoyed.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to call me when I'm on patrol? Are you done yet?"

I quickly explained, "Aiden, I've been kidnapped. They want to get revenge on you. Please don't come—"

Before I could finish, the rogue snatched the phone from me. On the other end, Aiden's voice roared loudly through the phone.

"Lina Rutherford, have you lost your mind? I told you I'm on patrol, and you pull this stunt because you're jealous? Do you know Kate's pet snow wolf has been stuck in a tree for three days?

"If we don't rescue it soon, it's going to die! And you make up lies like this just to get me to come to you? Why not say you're about to die in the next second, too?"

I looked at the bomb strapped to me—the countdown was down to the last five minutes.

"I…"

"Enough! I don't want to hear another word of your ridiculous lies. She loves that wolf like it's her child.

"If something happens to Kate because I fail to save her pet wolf in time, then you're a murderer, Lina! I won't forgive you for that!"

What a joke. That so-called trapped snow wolf had just jumped onto the slanted old pine tree in her courtyard, curling up on a branch to bask in the sun.

It wasn't even trapped. It just didn't feel like coming down.

"Thanks, Aiden! You're amazing! My little snow wolf is safe now!" Right after that, the call ended, and a tone followed.

The rogue cursed. "What rotten luck! Aiden doesn't care about this woman. I got the wrong hostage!"

After they stormed off, I stared at the bomb strapped to my body, and tears began rolling down my cheeks. Even the rogue could see the truth, yet it took me getting to this point to finally realize it myself.

The "Kate" Aiden mentioned was the widow of his deceased brother. She was also his childhood sweetheart.

When I first got together with Aiden, he told me Kate Summers was just his sister-in-law. His brother had passed, and as the older brother, he felt obligated to help care for her, and I foolishly believed it.

But by the time I started noticing the unspoken intimacy between them, I was already too deep in love to escape. No matter what was happening, Aiden would rush to her side immediately the moment Kate called.

Even during the first meeting with my family, Kate had called and said, "It's going to rain, and I'm scared to be home alone during a thunderstorm."

He abandoned us all on the spot and rushed straight to her. All he offered was a simple, "Something came up," and left without another word.

I tried to hold onto him, wrapping my arms around his waist to stop him. I even begged him with teary eyes to show my family some respect, but all he did was sneer.

"Kate and I have always been like this since we were kids, Lina. If you can't handle that, you can cancel our Mate Bond!"

I kept convincing myself that he thought of Kate as his sister and that I was his one true mate. But in the last few minutes of my life, I finally saw things clearly.

Aiden never loved me. To him, Kate was the most important person in his life. Just before the bomb exploded, I closed my eyes in despair and sent one final message through mind-link.

"In the name of the Moon Goddess, I hereby sever my Mate Bond with you." And with that, I cut the mind-link.
