The Alpha
“Girls! Not more bickering, I hope.”
Alpha Brahm stood at the back of the room, blanketing all of them with his aura of domination. Broad, and easily 6 and a half feet tall, he cocked an eyebrow at his daughters as they resigned themselves to abandoning their varied differences of opinion, at least for the time being.
Evelyn took a deep breath and plastered a grim smile on her face, “Of course not father, just trying to talk some sense into my lovesick, dingbat of a sister.”
“What the hell, Evie?!” Nora roared as their father chuckled and Cassie shook her head.
Alpha Brahm held up his hand, a silent signal to stop their foolish quarreling immediately. “I don’t think that I need to tell you how important tonight is to our pack, but I will do my best to impress it upon you anyway.” The sisters drew a collective deep breath. “Powerful warriors, friends and foes alike are arriving in our town as we speak. We would do well not to fan the flames of infighting, and do our best to present a united front. After all, how can people look to me to continue leading them if I can’t even control my own children.”
“I don’t have much patience for anyone trying to control me, father.” Started Evelyn, but he cut her off. “Just try to maintain the illusion that you’re excited about tonight, and looking forward to the possibility of meeting your mate. Cassie, do make an effort to convince your sisters to follow your lead. We don’t want any undo surprises tonight.”
“Why are you in charge?” muttered Nora. “Because I’m the only one who’s not fighting with you idiots right now.” Her sisters feigned outrage, but Cassie just shook her head. “Dad’s right, let’s just get through tonight and hope that none of us gets stuck with someone awful. I’m not in any rush to throw myself at some jumped up warrior and have his pups.”
“He won’t be awful…” mumbled Nora. “That’s the spirit sis,” said Evelyn, sighing as she clapped her on the back. “Let’s try to stay out of everyone else’s way, head back to the pack house and get ready for tonight. We’ll make sure that you look so beautiful, that dad will forget about how insubordinate and unruly we are.” she said, waggling her eyebrows. Cassie and Nora let out a low chuckle, and nodded their heads in agreement, heading back up to the pack house to finish getting ready for the night.

Cassie trudged up the hill with her sisters, the massive packhouse looming before them. The three of them weren’t particularly tall, but they were strong. With thick auburn hair and hazel eyes. The tents outside were a soft twinkle from afar, that escalated into an explosion of color, lights and sound as you approached. There were 3 huge marquees set-up in a beautiful grove, surrounded by pecan trees, an area big enough to hold the hundreds of wolves that had shown up to revel in the excitement and represent the 5 other major packs in their region. Wildpaw and Brokenmane, the more vicious warriors came from the south and east of this land, respectively. Cassie looked at her sisters, “You know Dad would want us to mingle. You know…show that we’re a good ally, make friends?” Evelyn nodded grimly, “Alright. We’ll split up and smile like the good, obedient daughters we are (Cassie rolled her eyes), but 15 minutes tops, and then we meet up again by the food. Her run across the room probably only took 30 seconds, but felt like an entirety as she collided with Evelyn as they both strode to reach the person who had shrieked in such terror.The sight before her was striking. The group of ethereal looking men from MoonValley stood, fists clenched, looking haughtily up at a small army of brutal looking warriors. Brutal looking men were turning into even more vicious looking wolves everywhere you looked. Nora was already gone, swallowed up and protected by her new pack. Cassie was determined to get to her sisters. Cassie awoke with a low, pitiful groan. Her whole body ached, but her head especially was pounding, not surprising with how many times she was thrown against the floor as she was dragged from the festival… The festival! Cassie started unloading the truck with her sisters. Everyone was working hard to get ready for that night’s festivities, and she definitely couldn’t be seen slacking.
