ZANDER
The moment I heard Lucas say that we had a big problem and it was about Vivian, I refrained from sighing. We had only been married for an hour so I didn't want to give Vivian the impression that something was wrong. The poor lady had been through a lot already. I didn’t want her to hear what Lucas was about to say. I wanted to be the one to determine if I would tell her or not, so I decided to leave the room and go to my study. “Alpha Zander, Is anything the problem? I heard your beta say my name,” Vivian quirked an eyebrow at me. “I’ll be right back,” Was all I said to her before I left the room and headed to my study with Lucas. Reaching my study we both went in and Lucas closed the door behind him. I made sure I made my study soundproof because this was where I always had confidential conversations with my Beta and Gamma. Derek, my Gamma was already waiting for us inside which made me know that the problem may have been more serious than I expected. I didn’t even sit down before I turned to Lucas and Derek. “How bad is the problem?”. They both sighed before Lucas spoke up. “I guess it was because it didn’t occur to us to check in with her and we didn’t have much time to waste, else the wedding would have been called off and we all know how bad that would have been for you,” Lucas facepalmed. “I agree. It would have been very bad if the wedding was called off,” Derek nodded in support of what Lucas said. I was getting pissed about how they were beating around the bush so I snapped. “Can the two of you just go straight to the point and tell me what the hell the problem is?” Lucas sighed before he spoke, “ We got the Red note,”. Silence ensued afterward as my eyes widened and I couldn't help but be worried because this problem was worse than I initially thought. I know you must be wondering what the Red Note means. There is a reason why my pack rose to be the wealthiest since my Dad passed away. Originally we were the poorest pack until I became the Alpha. The reason we rose to fame and wealth was because I had someone that no other pack in existence had. She would always send me a Red Note as a warning that something bad was about to happen. Her name was Selene. She was a witch and she could see the future. She would always tell me about how the stock market would rise or fall, lottery winning numbers and so on. That was how I gathered wealth for my pack. The moon goddess blessed Selene with the gift of sight. She was our witch and so far no one knew about her powers. Witches had gone into extinction centuries ago because they became more harmful than good. So all the Alphas joined forces together, sort help from an organization named THE CIRCLE, and burnt all witches to ashes. Selene was the daughter of our priestess, Tanya Grey who was in her late 40’s. I collected the Red Note from Lucas and saw Vivian’s name scribbled on it. I let out a sigh and massaged my temples. Receiving a Red Note from Selene meant one thing. It meant that I would have to see her so she could brief me on why she sent me the Red Note and why Vivian’s name was written on it. Selene didn’t live around us. She lived deep in the woods close to a waterfall. A car couldn’t even drive there so what we always did was that we always drove to the outskirts of the pack where no one lived and parked there because that would lessen our walk to where she lived, to two days. “Alright, here is what is going to happen. Lucas, you’ll come with me,” I instructed and he nodded in understanding. Then I turned to Derek. “Derek, you’re the only one I trust aside from Lucas. That is why the day after tomorrow, you will be the one to take Vivian to the hospital for the insemination. I’ll head to the hospital and give them my sperm before Lucas and I set out for Selene’s” I told Derek. “Got it,” He nodded in acceptance. I really wished that we could always go see Selene with one of my private jets but I couldn't risk it because doing that could arouse suspicion. “Lucas, prepare and meet me outside in 10 minutes,” I told Lucas and left my study, heading to my room. Reaching inside my room, Vivian was busy scrolling through her phone but raised her head when she heard the door close. She stood up from the bed. “Is everything alright,” she asked me. I didn't know if it was because of the whole Red Note Ordeal but she looked a bit nervous. “Yeah. I’ll be away for a few days,” I answered with a blank look on my face. I didn’t want to go deep into details because I wasn't sure of what exactly the problem was. “What? Why? How about the insemination,” She asked me. “Derek will take you to the hospital,” I said with an air of finality and went to my walk-in closet to get my things ready. I knew she probably still had a lot for us to talk about but now wasn’t the right time. By the time I was done packing and walked out of the closet, I saw Vivian in a towel about to go into the bathroom. She looked damn attractive. But I had to avert my gaze because the sight of her at that moment was doing things to my body. What I found strange was that I was the only one feeling the mate bond. It was either that or Vivian was a good pretender. I had so many questions to ask Selene which involved this mate bond issue. “Make yourself at home. I don’t think there are pretty much any rules except you avoiding my Uncle and his family. They are very manipulative. Most of the things they say about me are all lies,” I told her. “Okay,” she drawled. “Have a safe trip,” She gave me a tight-lipped smile which I reciprocated with a nod. I was about to leave when her voice stopped me and made me turn to her. “This won’t do. Wait for me outside the door. I’ll be with you in a sec,” She told me before walking into my closet. To give her some privacy I went outside and waited for her just as she wanted. I was curious to know what she wanted to do next. The next time she came out of my room, she was dressed only in my polo shirt which was big for her and stopped mid-thigh. I swallowed as I took in the sight of her. I opened my mouth to speak but I couldn't form words. “We just had our wedding and you’re going on a business trip even before we have our wedding night. People need to think we had sex before you left and this is the best way to show it,” She smiled gesturing at my polo shirt she was wearing. She was so full of surprises. I so much wanted to smile but held back and instead nodded in understanding. She linked arms with me as she accompanied me to my car. She said we had to look like couples in love and that this was what couples in love do. She hugged me and pecked me on my cheeks before I got into the car much to everyone’s surprise, especially Lucas. When Lucas was driving us out, she waved us goodbye until our car left through the gates. “She really does know how to put up an act,” Lucas chuckled with his eyes still on the road. “Yeah,” I smiled. “But why do you think she hasn’t realized that you are her second chance mate?” He asked me. “There could only be one reasonable explanation for that,” I answered with my brows creased. The look on Lucas’s face morphed into curiosity as he took his eyes off the road, taking a glance at me. “Which is?” He asked.VIVIANMy voice came out sharper than I expected and my curiosity had finally turned into a full-blown suspicion which I didn't even try to hide it.Joanna didn’t speak for a few seconds. Her mouth opened a little, then closed. Then she looked down at her hands on the table, like she was thinking about how to answer.I waited. My heart was racing a little now with anticipation. Either she was lying to me right now, or she had faked her death. Either way, it meant there were still more secrets she was keeping from me.And I hated that. I was tired of being in the dark. She finally looked up and met my eyes. But before she could say a single word, something in me shifted.I wasn’t sure what it was. Maybe it was the way her hands trembled slightly. Or the way she kept avoiding my eyes before looking back up.Or maybe it was just that quiet voice inside me that had always helped me tell when someone wasn’t telling me the full truth.Whatever it was, it made my body tense.I couldn’t expl
VIVIANWhen I reached Eva’s Deli, I parked a few blocks away just to be careful. I didn’t want to draw too much attention.Eva's deli looked just like I remembered it the last time I passed by. Old wooden sign. Blue-painted walls. Nothing fancy. Just simple. It was a small eatery in the corner of the street. As I pushed the glass door open, a little bell above it rang and the sound echoed because the place was empty. There weren't any customers and there was no music. Just silence. My eyes scanned the tables and there was no sign of Isla’s mom. The message she sent had been clear. Meet here. Come alone. And I did. Then why wasn’t she here?I stood still for a moment, unsure if I should sit or just walk back out. That was when I heard soft footsteps coming toward me.An old woman with short white curls and tired but kind eyes walked up to me from behind the counter. Her apron was flour-stained, and she wiped her hands on it before speaking. She looked at me closely for a second, then h
VIVIAN I got a text message. From Isla’s mom.My heart skipped a beat because I hadn’t heard from her since that horrible day. My hands shook a little as I opened the message.“It’s Isla’s mom. I want to tell you who paid me to kill you that time. But I’ll only tell you if you help my daughter be free from the Circle forever. Please don’t tell anyone I contacted you.”I stared at the words on the screen for a long time. I didn’t know what to feel. So many thoughts filled my head all at once. Why now? Why reach out after all this time? Why would she trust me to help Isla, after what she did? And would she expect me to trust her?But then again, I understood. Isla was her daughter. Maybe this was her way of trying to fix the mess she caused.Still, I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t tell anyone about this message. Not even Zander. Not yet.“Vivian?”Caroline’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked up at her quickly, trying to hide my shock. She was seated beside me with a smal
VIVIAN I stared at Priestess Tanya, waiting for her to explain what she meant by “getting me ready.”My heart was already beating faster. I didn’t like the sound of it, and the serious look on her face made it worse. She folded her hands in front of her and spoke calmly. “You need to be ready when the Circle makes their next move.”The moment she said those words, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I swallowed hard and looked at her, not sure if I had heard her right.“The Circle?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. She nodded. “Yes, Vivian. They will strike again. It’s only a matter of time.”I frowned deeply. My heart suddenly felt heavy with dread. “How do you know that?” I asked, honestly confused and a little scared. “Has something happened?”Priestess Tanya simply shrugged and said, “It’s just my instincts. And my instincts never lie.”Her words didn’t calm me. They made me even more nervous. But I knew better than to question her.Priestess Tanya was rarely wrong about
VIVIAN I stood right in front of the cottage door, ready to walk back inside but my heart was beating fast, but it was a happy kind of fast. The kind that comes when you’re about to see if something big actually worked. The others stood behind me, waiting just like I was.I could feel their eyes on me. Even Zander looked more alert than usual, his brows were raised just a little. When I tried to pass through the open door, I felt something push back against me preventing me from getting in.It was something I couldn’t see.It was like I had walked right into a wall made of air. A strong, invisible wall. Then I laughed. Not just a small laugh. I actually squealed and jumped a little like a kid who had just gotten a gift.“Oh my gosh!” I shouted, turning around to face everyone. “It worked! It really worked!”The joy inside me tripled. It was the kind of joy that made you want to dance in place or hug someone tightly.I had really done it. The protection spell worked just the way I ha
VIVIAN “I need everyone to please step outside,” I said softly but clearly. “Except for Priestess Tanya.”They all turned to me with confused looks. Even Priestess Tanya raised her brows slightly.Zander tilted his head and looked at me like he wanted to ask something. But Caroline being Caroline, frowned and was the first to speak.“Why, Vivian?” she asked, glancing between me and Tanya. “Why do we have to go out?”I gave her a soft smile and tried to keep my tone calm. “Because the protection spell I’m about to cast can only allow Priestess Tanya to walk freely into this house.”Their expressions changed. Now everyone was clearly puzzled.Derek’s mouth fell open and he looked even more confused than Caroline. “Wait,” he said, pointing toward the floor, “Do you mean none of us will ever be able to come in here again?”I chuckled a little. “No, Derek, not like that. You’ll still be able to enter,” I said gently. “But only if Priestess Tanya invites you in. Without her invitation, you
