There was something sharp piercing my eyes. Extremely bright. It was blinding. And it hurt.

I sucked a sharp breath in as pain shot through the back of my eyes and in my head. It felt like my head was being squeezed in a vice. I tried to open my eyes to look around but all I could see was blackness. I breathed through the pain to bury my fear, and then tried to calm myself down.

I remembered Lucinda attacking me. The fear was still alive in my bones. Had she blinded me? Oh god… I hope I am not blind!

My fingers tightened in fists in fear. That is when I realized that my one hand was not empty. A few fingers were wrapped around my hand, and they tightened when I squeezed my own fingers.

“Hi,” a soft whisper was there.

A familiar scent was in the air. I took a few moments to recognize it, and then whispered, “Adrian?”

“Right here.” the voice was more audible now. I could finally breathe without panicking. My fingers tightened around Adrian’s hand more, my heart thumping in my throat.
