Isabel stayed frozen on the kitchen counter. Isaac’s hand was still over her stomach, but his eyes were searching her face, waiting. He looked stunned, not angry, but confused like he was trying to connect dots that just weren’t there.

She opened her mouth but couldn’t find her voice.

He kept looking at her.

“Say something,” he said quietly.
