What? What is he playing at?
"When did you two meet?" Her father asked, curiosity evident in his voice.
Something amused and playful danced on Sebastian's face and before Cassandra could make up a story, Sebastian already spoke.
"Earlier, while I was on call. Right Cassy?"
Cassandra could not believe her ears. First he's claiming to have met her when the only thing they did was to share a glance for the briefest moment. Secondly, he gave her a nickname when they barely met for five minutes. What more is he up to? She ought to be furious but she wasn't. The way her name—nickname rolled off his tongue was more like he is familiar with it. She stared at him in disbelief while he smiled. A dangerous one.
Her father made a small laugh, breaking the tension that's starting to gather between the two.
"Well, that's good then. I'm glad you met her Sebastian" her father nodded at Sebastian then back at Cassandra.
"I'll leave you two to talk. I'm sure he has questions for you Cassandra" He patted her arm then moved closer to whisper in her ear.
"Act nice" and with that he left.
The kitchen door opened, Cassandra watched her mother come out with one of those ladies she was introduced to earlier, her father said a parting word then left them.
Now, they are finally alone.
She stared up at him and he gazed back at her. His expression is emotionless. She couldn't make out anything that might be going through his mind. Is he glad to be doing this? Marrying a stranger? We'll not anymore. They met now, so that should count too right? He continued to look at it with rapt attention as if he found a new prey. Under his gaze, she shifted suddenly, feeling uncomfortable. Her cheeks heated in embarrassment so she looked down.
Why is he having this reaction to her? She thought. She is supposed to hate him, hate the idea but right now she doesn't even care.
Muttering up her courage, she raised her head and met his gaze. She cleared her throat before speaking.
"We haven't met," she said firmly.
Sebastian crooked a brow. "Are you sure, I thought you just agreed that we've met"
"I didn't…." Cassandra had started to say but shut her mouth. Her heart fluttered so fast that she could swear she heard the rhythm. He was right, she didn't disagree while her father was there.
Sebastian could read what was going through Cassandra's mind, her face was like an open book. He knew about the Hastings family since he was a kid. His grandfather would call him and his sister and would make them listen to stories about this family. He knew Cassandra wasn't aware of the alliance between the two families. Somehow he thought Jake was being selfish but no, the man had to do what he could. Like how he had to agree.
When he first saw her through the blinds earlier he thought she was one of the guests, but seeing her at closer range, he knew she's just a kid with a heavy responsibility to carry out. But this girl before him appeared strong, she wasn't even shedding tears. His sister, Isabella who was married off to the Davis Family cried till the day she was taken away and ever since he only sees her on important occasions only. Like tonight.
He studied the figure before him, short, petite with a cute face. The green dress fitted her perfectly. He's sure she isn't even aware of how gorgeous she looks because she didn't appear to care. Her face shows how uncomfortable she is to be standing here.
He bent forward, bringing his head closer to Hers. She felt his breath against her ear. “Come outside with me" His voice was rough. Harsh. Almost tormenting. She inhaled and closed her eyes, holding a desperate urge to break down and cry. She didn't say anything as she followed him out through the back and down the little garden In her father's yard. He stopped walking and she did too, his back was turned to her.
"You could have refused, Cassandra," he sneered at her name. She could feel the distaste on his lip at the mention of her name. All of the intimacy he had displayed in front of her father was all gone now.
"I didn't even know about this until…" she had started to say but he spoke over her.
"I don't care when you find out about this," he said in the same cold voice. "Arraignment has been made, the wedding is in a week. Our fathers are finalizing it as I speak"
"I don't want this' ' Her voice was a little shaky and her heart almost rattled out of her chest. She realised how weak she was against him. Her hands won't stop trembling and her breath won't cease to come in rapid gasps.
He could easily destroy her. She is fragile and small. But she is sure he wouldn't do that as he needs her for an heir. That's the purpose of the marriage anyway.
Sebastian turned slowly making a slow step as he walked to where she was standing. She could see the fury and frustration in his eyes. He didn't want to get married to her as much as she didn't want him to. From the disgust scowl on his face she can only deduce one thing. The man standing before her right now and the one she met in her father's hall some minutes ago are entirely different. This one is demanding, menacing, ruthless and smells dangerous.
He is so devious, cruel and yet so powerful.
"What did you just say?" He laughed. "Do you think you have a choice in this? You know how important this marriage is for both our families. I could refuse and your father will never get his inheritance" Sebastian mocked.
Cassandra knew he was right. She had no choice. Her father would have her hunted down and have her killed if she disobeyed his commands. As for her mother, she would disown her and take sides with her father. Both of them would erase her name from the family book and if she gets lucky, she would live.
She fidget under his menacing gaze and shifts uncomfortably as he takes another step towards her. His hand came up to her face and she flinched. He chuckled. He moved his hand over her hair and pulled her closer so that he was leaning over her with his lip right placed over her right ear as he lowered to whisper in her ear.
"Don't worry little one, I won't touch you" he whispered.
She turned her face away, breaking away from his embrace. Not able to bear his touch or the anger his presence emanates.
"Cassandra! Cassandra!" Her father's voice reached them in the dark, where they were standing. Cassandra and Sebastian both looked up to find the shadow of her father standing in the distance. They ignored him.
"You have said what you have to say and as you can see my father needs me, can we go back now?"
Sebastian didn't reply as he stormed past her and started to walk away but stopped. He turned to look back at her.
“Oh right, I almost forgot to give you this.” He dipped his hand in his pocket then fished out something. It glowed under the moonlight. He grabbed her hand harshly then opened her palm as he placed the ring on it.
“It's your ring,” Sebastian said coldly, his voice dripping with venom.
“Wear it. Happy engagement to us.” and with that he left without looking back.
PresentCassandra. A wedding ought to be a beautiful thing. A joyous and memorable occasion. Where two souls are joined in holy matrimony. Bonded by laws. To love, to Cherish and obey. In sickness, health and otherwise. The day where two young lovers vowed to spend the rest of their lives together in each other's arms. A percent union of two imperfect people. Like the happily ever after. It is meant to be a loving, intimate, selfless relationship between a man and a woman. If you tell me I'll be getting married three weeks ago, I'll laugh right in your face and call you stupid. Three weeks ago, I never imagined I'd be walking down the aisle or being led to the altar by a complete stranger. A man I met just once. On our engagement day. The very day he threw my ring so carelessly. As soon as I got back inside that night, I ignored everyone and went to bed immediately. I didn't care if my father got angry or that I had an engagement party going on. All I needed was space.Sebastian Spe
I stood at the front of the chapel and inhaled a deep breath. With the help of Isabella, we found our way down here some minutes ago. When my mother boasted that this wedding will be the talk of the town for months I never knew she meant this. Everywhere was decorated and covered in flowers. I had pictured and dreamt of this day ever since I was little and now that's happening I'm dreading it. My father was already waiting by the door, ready to walk me down the altar where my soon to be husband is waiting. "You look absolutely gorgeous in this dress Cassandra, you reminded me of the day your mom and I got married. She also has the same look" He gave me a soft smile. This one is genuine. "Thank you, Father" He leaned forward and pressed a kiss on my head, not lifting the veil."I'm going to miss you Cass. We didn't really get along but let's try to do a better job now that you're getting married. If you are getting uncomfortable there, you can always call me. I'm still your father
The congregation had started to murmur by now and they exchanged puzzled glances. All the photos had stopped by now as they all waited for me to say "I do" but I couldn't."What are you doing, Cassandra!" This is from my mother. She is already on her feet and beside me."The priest is waiting for you to talk. Do you want to keep us waiting already?" She asked in a frightened tone.I looked over her shoulder and to the congregation. They had started to whisper. I looked over at my father and he looked panicked. I couldn't bear looking over at Sebastian.Everyone's waiting for you, Cassandra."I do" I said finally followed by the immediate sound of exhales from people. No going back now.Sebastain gripped my left hand and put the ring on my fingers. I do the same."Any objection to this union?" The priest asked the congregation. There was a resounding silence."Since there's no objections, we can proceed" the priest said after some seconds.".... I now pronounce you as husband and wife.

SEBASTIAN POV"You can't make rash decisions like this, Seb" Dave said."C'mon buddy, it's just for some weeks, pa won't even realize, I'll be gone" I ran my hands through my hairs for what felt like the thousandth time today. It's a thing I do when I'm frustrated, and right now I'm not far from being frustrated. David Brooks, who's been my best friend right from diaper days, chose today, a Monday morning to torment my life. I told him about my plan of leaving work and taking a few months off. I want to go to Africa and your whole place, move to Australia, do everything I like without the impression that grandpa is watching me. God, that man is a pest. He monitors everything I do and that is fucking annoying."Justin, will never allow you and you know that" he said. "He'll surely know," Dave says. He is right though but I don't want to admit that to him."If you keep your fucking mouth shut and stay out of this he won't know" I slammed my fist hard against the table.~~~~~After I had
Cassandra POVWhile I had thought the car ride wasn't going to end, the young and cute driver finally stopped in front of a white building. It's one of the biggest I've ever seen in my entire life, bigger than grandpa's own , not to mention my father's own. I shouldn't be surprised but I am, Sebastian's parents are More influential than mine could ever be. He comes From power and deals with power."We are here ma'am" The young driver whose name I'm yet to know says, jolting me out of my thoughts. I looked up to find him out of the car already and he was standing beside me waiting for approval to open the door. I nodded my head slightly and he opened it.I stepped out, feeling the cold weather of New Jersey City hit my face. I closed my eyes and inhaled a deep breath, cheesing the moment for now. This is a new beginning,I reminded myself."This way, Ma'am '' He motioned for me to follow him and I did. Suddenly it felt as though tikes were reversed. I should say something about not want
He didn't say anything but continued to stare at him, his body still blocking the entrance. "I get that you don't want to talk to me so I'll do the talking. One, you don't get to sneak on me whenever I'm bathing as I need privacy. Two, you nod your head sometimes to let me realize you get what I am saying" I paused to check his reaction, but he still had the same. Anger? Resentment? Amusement? I couldn't tell.I curved the third finger. "Three you get to enter my bedroom at my approval. You don't storm in like you own the place. Now, I'll appreciate it if you can excuse me. I need to get changed."Sebastian stood still and for a while I thought he'd gone dumb before he broke out in laughter which quickly faded from his face and then was replaced by the resentment I had seen the night he threw my engagement ring at me and during our wedding."Who could tell my beloved wife can be bossy. Barely three hours of the union already bossing her husband. Such a good and wonderful wife" He says
SEBASTIAN POVBy the time I get to reach the mansion, I was already sober. I met Alex, the driver I instructed to drive Cassandra home and he told him he had put her in her room. I trusted Alex with her that's why.I walked down the hallway and had almost walked past her door when I noticed it was slightly opened. Curiousity wouldn't let me walk past so I oreowdbabd found the room empty.Thinking she might be trying to pull a prank on me and excaped, I entered only to noticed the shower running in the bathroom. I exhajed in relief. I wanted to leave but the other part of doesn't want to do I opened the door and find it unlocked too."Where does she think she is? Does she shower without locking the door?" I muttered under my breath.I saw her clothes, and underwear on the floor meaning she's naked. My clock stirred in my panties at the thought of that. I shouldn't be thinking that way but I will blame it in the whiskey I drank. I was still standing there wherln she got out if the shower
