“Hi there, Mr. Blakemore, we were wondering, if we could join you and Savannah for a while before you leave tomorrow.” My best friends Brianna, Charlotte, and Ocean appear behind us, and I am surprised to see them.
“Of course, girls come and join us.” Dad stands up to welcome them hugging each one of them as they joined us at the fire pit. “Hey guys I wasn’t expecting you until the morning to wave us off” I stand to give each of them a hug myself. “Oh, Sav we’re still doing that, we were driving by to see if you needed help with any last minute packing,” Brianna says hugging me back. “We saw the fire pit lit and knew you would be out here,” Ocean said after I hug her. Charlotte says when we hug “We’re only here for a little while and then leaving you guys for the night, we’re only here to help.” “Well, that’s mighty kind of you girls thank you,” Dad says in his Southern accent. “You’re just in time” I pick up my guitar, throwing the strap over my shoulder, and softly strum. “Let’s sing our song for all time’s sake,” I ask the girls and they nod in agreement. I start playing ‘Here I Go Again’ by Whitesnake and the four of us sing the song late into the night. The girls stayed and helped us pack until the last box was sealed. We said our goodbyes before they left for the night and once, they left and drove off down the street Dad and I went to bed. I was awake before the sun putting boxes in the moving truck as well as my car, stacking them on top of each other in the truck while the movers deal with all the big heavy stuff. In no time the truck was shut and heading off to Santa Monica, California. I walked back into the now empty house to find Dad standing in what was once the family room. “Wow with all the furniture and boxes out of here, I never realized how big it was in here” I look around the now big empty space. “It’s surprising what some furniture can do, to the size of a room,” Dad says wrapping his arm around me squeezing me to his side kissing the top of my head. Lost in the moment there’s a knock on the door and the girls come in looking at the bare walls that once had pictures hung up and the empty spaces that once had furniture in and joins us in the family room with sad looks on their faces and unshed tears in their eyes. I walk up to them, and we hug and just as we embrace together we all start crying. “I’ll leave you four alone, have your moment and I’ll be outside next to the cars” and then Dad leaves the house for the last time. We stay where we were for a few minutes hugging and crying. Once our emotions calmed down, I wiped my eyes “I think it’s time we hit the open road.” The girls nod, and we head for the door the girls heading for the cars as I lock the door behind me. Heading towards the cars I see my friends and my dad hugging and saying goodbye to one another and he climbed into his car. With fresh tears threatening to fall, I say to my friends “I’ll text you guys when I get there, and I’ll text you as often as I can on my trip too.” I open my car door getting ready for the long drive ahead. “We will be out for visits too when we can,” Brianna says. “Santa Monica will have no idea what’s hit it when we’re all together again,” says Charlotte and we all giggle. “Don’t go forgetting us now y’all here,” Ocean tells me, and I laugh. “I will never forget my girls I just can’t wait to see y’all again “ I promise the girls. The girls hug me quickly one more time, they step back, and I nod in my dad’s direction, and we climb into our cars, shut the doors, and start the engines. I roll down the window “I’ll call you as soon as I get there.” “You better,” they all say in unison. Pulling out of the driveway my dad and I wave goodbye to my friends as they wave, we drive off down the street staring off on our adventure in Santa Monica, California. This country girl is about to become a city girl. And I can’t wait to see how life in California turns out for me.After a long day of driving, making a pit stop in every state we finally arrive at the hotel we’re staying in for the night. We checked in to the Whitten Inn in Elk City, Oklahoma. Got our room key, climbed back into our cars to park closer to the room, and entered our accommodation for the night. The hotel room was a standard two double bed, bathroom, basic TV, mini fridge, and kettle with hot drink supplies. The bed felt comfortable, but I wouldn’t be testing that out until I’ve had a nice relaxing shower. Once I got out of the shower Dad was already snoring so loud, that I don’t have to leave the bathroom to know he’s already fast asleep. I walk back into the room once I was dried and dressed in a pink tank top and white shorts with pink hearts printed on them, I felt exhausted I climbed into the bed, and I melted into the sheets they felt like clouds against my skin. Rolling onto my side I looked at the time on the digital clock on the bedside table seeing it said 02:35 my eyes
“Oh my god, I’ve got the job I can’t believe it,” I say to myself quietly “I’ve got the job” I cheer a little too loudly as everyone stops what they are doing to look at me or in my direction and I blush a deep crimson staining my cheeks. “Sorry,” I say softly then everyone goes back to what they were doing just like nothing happened, as I hear my name get called to collect my order. So, I head to the counter to grab the coffees and put in the sugars for both me and Dad with our bagels in hand too, and head back to the cars at the hotel so I can tell Dad the good news and we can get back on the road. We make good time on the road and arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico just after noon. To celebrate my getting the job Dad is treating me to lunch at a nice restaurant called Campo. We dined outside on their patio looking onto the kitchen gardens. While we are waiting for the waiter, we looked at the menu to decide on what we would like to order. We made up our minds just as the waiter ar
After thirty-eight long hours from Wake Forest, North Carolina to Santa Monica, California we finally arrive at our new house late at night. The house looked beautiful lit up with its small fountain in the middle of the driveway central in front of the house and with small palm trees leading up towards the house. The moving truck was leaving as we arrived, we honked our horns and waved as we passed each other. I pull up outside the house putting the car in park, grab all I need out of the car, and climb out to look at my new home as well as the surroundings. “Wow” is all I can say I’m totally lost for words. If the outside looks like this, I cannot wait to see out back and the interior design inside. Walking up the steps to the open door, I catch my breath looking round the main hall. This house is unbelievable. The big open-plan kitchen diner to the left, the family room to the right with an office to the side, and a marble staircase that leads upstairs and down the hallway I can se
Driving down the street heading towards the school I make a couple of wrong turns before arriving in the school parking lot. With making them wrong turns it made me later than I had liked, especially on my first day. Climbing out of my car once I found a parking space, I grab my school bag from the back seat then lock the car, and head towards the main building. Walking through the main doors I look around at my new school and try to find my way to the school office to get my transcript, class schedule, and books. The office was an easy find thankfully. After getting my class schedule I am asked to sit and wait to speak with the school principal to discuss my transcripts. Ten minutes after talking with the principal I was dismissed to collect all my books and to go to find my locker. With my books in hand and a piece of paper with my locker number and combination written on it, I go searching. Finding my locker, I put the books I don’t need for my first two periods. Keeping hold of
I leave English and head towards History. Going down hallway after hallway I go up a flight of stairs to find my class. History class was easier to find than English, surprisingly. Handing the teacher my tran slip and then I take the first available seat. As I get my books out, I hear that sexy deep voice from earlier “Excuse me but um… you’re in my seat.” I look up to see those green eyes and my heart starts to flutter uncontrollably. “Oh, is there assigned seating in this class or something?” I asked him feeling a little nervous about him being this close to me. He chuckles at me rubbing his bottom lip with his index finger trying to seduce me with his charm and I must say it is kind of working. Oh, how I hate myself for this feeling he is making me feel. “No, there isn’t but everyone knows this is my seat. This is where I sit with the boys” he points at the desks around me noticing their all guys probably football players with their build occupying them. I started to feel even mo
We walked out of class together “What class do you have next?” Jen asked once we got out of the classroom. “Um...” I look at my class schedule “I’ve got Earth Science next.” “Perfect I’ve got that too is it with Miss. Dawson?” she asks, and I look back at my schedule and nod looking at the name of the teacher. “Even better we can go together,” Jen says as she links her arm through mine and leads us to our lockers before heading to class. We talk all the way to our lockers to grab our books and talk all the way to class. If we didn’t know any better, you could say we’ve been friends our entire lives. We got to class and sat together to only hear the voices from the hall before first period and now I know the names to go with the voices coming from behind us. “I can’t believe your sister is befriending the new girl” I heard what Candace was saying so me and Jen looked at each other and Jen rolls her eyes. “Candace just leave them alone it’s up to Jen who she hangs out with you k
We found Jen sitting at a table near the fountain in the school quad. Jen notices me and Selena and she waves us over. When we get to the table and put our trays down Chase came over to us “Hello ladies” and he smiles at all of us, but I noticed he looked at me a little bit longer than the other girls. Jen rolls her eyes “What do you want ass hat.” Chase then shushes his sister “Not in front of company but anyway, mom wants us home straight after school today for some dinner party tonight.” Hearing what Chase just said I choke on my drink “I know you dick wad, Mom told me before I left this morning you were too busy with that bitch of yours Candace.” Jen snaps back at him and she rolls her eyes at him again that’s twice in a matter of minutes and Chase glares back at his sister. “Jen you can be a real bitch some days yourself, anyway you’ve never given her a chance” Just as Chase finished his discussion with his sister Candace comes waltzing over kissing him on the lips as Jen
I met up with Jen and Selena at the end of the day. We arranged to meet up just outside the school entrance by the time I got there both Jen and Selena were waiting and to my surprise, Chase was there too. Chase was talking to Jen about something I can’t hear what he is saying as I’m not close enough. As I approached them, he winked at me acknowledging my arrival, and took his leave. Watching him walk away my eyes never leaving him I ask Jen “He didn’t leave because of me, did he?” She looks at her departing brother walking further away. “Oh no he just came to tell me to tell my mom he’s got an emergency football practice, so he’ll be home later.” I feel relieved and disappointed that he’s gone these feelings are so confusing I have never had them over a guy before and I’m intrigued to find out what they mean. I bite my bottom lip watching Chase disappear from our sight and the girls notice what I’m doing. “You like him, don’t you?” Jen questions I go crimson feeling put on the s
