LOGINAmbers pov
After the last conversation we had concerning why I signed the contract, I made sure not be in sight. Luckily, his schedule was completely cleared because of the fake honeymoon we were on. I hadn’t stepped out of my room since today since I didn’t want to bump into him. I was cooped up in my room with no break fast, no lunch and now it’s almost dinner time and I don’t think I can endure this too. Passing by the hallway, i saw him in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up, pouring water like a Greek god. He didn’t look he was the same man who ran an entire company with ruthless precision. I should have kept walking but I didn’t, instead I stopped to savor the sight. He looked different from the usual arrogant and domineering boss to a man who just let his guard down and wants to just live in the moment. He looked like a family man, and I wondered if he would still look this scary if he eventually marries and has kids running down the hallway waiting for him to be back from work. Still lost in thoughts, I didn’t notice him walk towards me and stand inches away from me. It was only after he spoke that I was brought back to reality. “You’re avoiding me,” he said calmly. “I…I’m not. I said trying not to sound stupid. He took two strides towards me and that was it, there was no distance to between us. “No?” he asked quietly. “Then what are you doing?” he added. No, he doesn’t get to taunt me like this. I should be the one asking him questions and not the other way round. “I’m trying to understand what you want from me, why did you kiss me and in public too?” I said trying to feign anger. “So are you saying, if it wasn’t in public you wouldn’t mind ?” He asked smirking. “I didn’t say that, you are deflecting.” “Amber, you already signed the contract plus you have an advantage too so what’s with the questions? Is that why you were indoors throughout today?” “Oh really? Need I remind you whose fault it is that I had to sign a contract? If you hadn’t done what you did, we would have continued our lives without any disturbance.” I yelled. He was trying to pin this on me but I wouldn’t let that happen. “You think it is simple for me? I had to stand there and watch you dance with my rival when I brought you to the event.” I could see he was getting frustrated. “So it’s a matter of your ego? You kissed me because you didn’t want your rival dancing with me and what about me? My emotions? It didn’t occur to you?” “But you kissed me back,” he murmured. “You know what?” I lowered my voice as i didn’t want him to see the dam of tears threatening to fall out. I moved towards him with my forefinger poking his chest. “You are just a piece of shit and a self centered jerk and you don’t know how damaged you are until you seek therapy.” I said as a drop of tear fell on my cheek. With that I walked away from him, I don’t know what it was but there was a bile rising in my throat that threatened to open the flood gates. “Amber,” he called. I didn’t answer, I couldn’t. I dare not let him see me in this state, it would only make him feel better. Adrian’s pov Since last night where she called me names, I hadn’t seen her and I was beginning to be worried. She hasn’t had anything for a while now and I didn’t want anyone dying on my property. Only she had guts to raise her finger to me and call me all sorts of names but I didn’t mind, I guess I deserved it. Taking one last look at the food presentation I wanted to use as a peace offering, I walked towards her room. “Amber, can you open the door let’s talk. No response “Please.” This was the first time I had used this word in a while but it didn’t matter to me, I needed to speak to her. She opened the door and her face looked puffed up and that pricked my heart. For some reason, seeing her that way didn’t sit well with me and to make it worse, I was the cause. “How may I help you?” She asked. “Can we not be like this? We need to be cordial at least so this can look believable.” “Is that all you have to say, Adrian?” This was a first, she called me by my name and I wasn’t repulsed by it either. I liked the way my name rolled out from her tongue, it sounded like music to my ears. “I know i shouldn’t have kissed you on impulse and for what, just because I didn’t like the idea of sharing my person with someone talk more of my rival.” “Your person? What do you mean?” “I….i meant, my staff.” My person ? What the hell was that? I didn’t even know when i said that. “Look, I’m sorry, ok? I don’t know what happened and I’m not going to justify it just please stop staying indoors plus you haven’t had a proper meal since two days now.” “Are you worried about me ? She asked. “Shouldn’t I be ?” For a moment, we locked eyes with each other. It was like our eyes could say what we couldn’t say like it could see the depth of our hearts. Breaking from the staring contest, “I brought food.” “You cooked?” She asked in disbelief. “There are so many things I can do Amber, you just don’t know it yet.” “Is that so? Well, let me have a taste, I’m starving.” She took in her first spoon and her eyes widened which made her look so adorable and I couldn’t help but get mesmerized by them. “No way, this is really nice, you should cook often” She said. “No way, I don’t like cooking. I just did it to pacify you, I enjoy yours better.” “You do? I didn’t know that but thank you for the compliment, I guess.” She said. “It reminds me of my mums dishes and it’s something I like to relive so please, never stop cooking.” “Oh, lucky you. You just got married to the best chef in the world.” She said grinning from ear to ear. That view alone was precious, she has never smiled at me willingly before and I’m glad I was the one making her smile today. Why does it feel like I just got myself into something that would be difficult to explain. This was supposed to be a one year contract but why did it feel like I would fumble before the year ends?Adrian’s pov Standing outside her room, I kept pacing back and forth not knowing whether to knock or just walk past. Since the last incident, she’s been avoiding me and it’s worse since we didn’t go to work anymore.I could hear the rustling pages of a book, I guess she’s reading a book. I really don’t even know how to go over and invite her for the banquet we would be going for. She made it clear to me that she hated my guts and didn’t want to have anything to do with me but this banquet is a huge deal for me as I get to meet investors too. I knocked on her door twice but got no response and just as I was about to leave, I heard the door creak open. It looked like she had been away for months while she was just here but staying away from me. “I’m sorry to disturb you, I just wanted to give you this.” I said stretching out my hand to give her a box. It contained a gown and jewellery for the banquet tonight. She looked at the box and back at me before muttering some words. “What’s
Adrian’s POVI watched the footage again and it was clearly Amber’s room. The camera angle was precise and it looked like it was planted more like a device. It didn’t look like it was taken by chance or from outside, it looked like an inside job. Who would come to my house to plant a device or did my workers betray me?My jaw tightened.“Run it back,” I said. The screen flickered as the video replayed. The angle didn’t move, it was a fixed position and it was hidden well. This wasn’t Aaron. This was way too professional and well thought out to be Aaron. Aaron was clumsy, he didn’t even have the resources to be able to get this close to my house. This wasn’t some desperate ex trying to make money, this was calculated. My phone buzzed.“Sir, we’ve got movement again.”“Location?”“It’s inconsistent. He’s switching fast. Burner devices.”I exhaled slowly, forcing my thoughts into order. Burner devices? Now it’s clear, I have ruled out Aaron certainly. He’s not capable enough to use bu
Adrian’s POVI didn’t sleep a wink last night, not because of her this time but because of that message.“You really think you’ve won? Let’s see how long she stays yours.”I stood in my study, staring at the screen again like I could figure out who the coward was or the words would somehow change. Whoever this was, they weren’t just bluffing. And that meant one thing, this wasn’t random.I dialed a number immediately, and he picked up the second ring.“Sir.”“I want everything pulled up again,” I said, my voice sharp. “Calls, messages, digital footprints. I don’t care how clean they think they are, find them.”“Yes, sir.”“And increase security.”“For her?”“For the house, for the office and everywhere she goes.”“Yes, sir.”I ended the call, my grip tightening around the phone. Whoever this was, they knew exactly what they were doing. I thought about this long and hard but I couldn’t figure anything out and it was driving me crazy. I stepped out of the study just as I saw her walki
Amber’s POVI stayed awake all night staring at the ceiling in my room. Sleep wasn’t forthcoming as I relayed the day’s events over and over again.I couldn’t help but think about him and the way he said those words “You’re mine.” Something about it sent a tingling sensation down my spine. The words kept replaying in my head like a song I didn’t want to remember but couldn’t forget either. I turned on the bed, pulling the duvet tighter around me.This was getting out of hand, It was just a contract.A one-year agreement and nothing more so why did it feel like something was shifting?I exhaled and sat up. Maybe I needed water or something to distract me from the excessive thinking. The house was quiet as I stepped out, what did I expect? He’s probably asleep, it’s so late on the night. But just as I got to the kitchen, I saw him. He was leaning against the counter, sleeves rolled up and a glass of water in his hand. He looked like he had been there for a while and his ruffled ha
Adrian’s POV I couldn’t sleep. Not because I wasn’t tired but because I kept thinking about her. The way she looked when I walked into that room. She looked lost and shaken, she was trying so hard to hold herself together. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like that some pathetic excuse of a man had that much effect on her. And I definitely didn’t like the fact that she didn’t tell me. That didn’t sit right with me. I stood by the window, phone in hand, replaying everything Vee had said. Aaron. The name alone irritated me. Her ex-boyfriend, Pathetic and desperate. He was stupid enough to think he could get away with threatening my wife. A slow smile formed on my lips, he picked the wrong woman. I dialed a number. “Find him.” “I want everything. Where he lives, who he talks to, what he does. Everything.” “Yes, sir.” I ended the call. This wasn’t going to take long, I trusted my sources. I stepped out, expecting to see her, but the hallway was empty. She was probably still asleep
Amber’s POV“Amber, it’s time to go.”His voice came through the door again, not the usual arrogant tone but firm enough to pull me out of my spiraling thoughts.I stared at my phone, my hands still shaking. A million dollars by tomorrow, where do I get the money from ? My chest tightened just by thinking about it. “Amber?”“I will meet you downstairs. ”I managed to say, my voice barely steady.I quickly got out of bed, forcing myself to move like everything was normal. Like I wasn’t about to break down in tears. The drive to the office felt longer than usual.I sat beside Adrian, quiet, my mind replaying the video over and over again.I shut my eyes briefly, I couldn’t afford to break down now at least not in front of him. “Did you sleep at all?” he asked suddenly.I blinked, turning to him. “Why would you ask that?”“You look like you didn’t.”“I’m fine,” I replied quickly. He stared at me for a second longer than necessary before he looked away.“I didn’t ask if you were fine.”
Amber’s pov It was already evening before I could discuss with Vee the reason why Adrian’s grandmother came to see me and she wasn’t having it. “What do you mean she wants you to marry her grandson to change him? Does that even make sense?” She said irritated. “I don’t know what to do Vee, I’m
Amber’s POV I didn’t stop running until I got to Vee’s place. My chest was rising and falling all at the same time. My mind still spinning from everything that had just happened. The kiss, the cameras and him. “Amber?” Vee’s voice came from behind me, laced with concern. “What happened? You look
Richard’s POVI didn’t know she could be any more beautiful than she already is. The moment they walked in, the entire room shifted. Heads turned and cameras flashed but none of that mattered to me.Because all I could see was her.She walked beside Adrian, her hand resting lightly on his arm,
Amber’s povI stood in front of the mirror trying to check my outfit for the umpteenth time. This was the first time I would be meeting Adrian’s family and I don’t know why I’m nervous about it. I guess it’s probably the fact that I have to make it believable to his cousins and uncle who he alread
