The elevator opened, and I was faced with workers who looked surprised at seeing me. They all stood, hesitating to get in. “Come in,” I said. They nodded, but only three dared to enter. “We will wait for the next one, so as not to crowd you.” A male worker spoke, and they all nodded in agreement. “If you say so.” The door closed. Usually, I had used the private elevator, but Gina had informed me that it was under repair. I was exhausted from last night's situation. I didn’t even know how I got home, but I had dragged myself to wake up this morning, and for the first time in two years, I took those drugs. I couldn’t bear to stay at home and rest. Working was my dandelion, an escape. “What happened yesterday? I kept calling you.” Gina's worried face came immediately after the elevator opened. “I slept off immediately after getting home.” I lied. She followed me inside and stood in front of me while I sat. “Why? You didn’t sound tired after you left the restaurant, and you didn’t visit the mansion after insisting on it. Tell me, is everything fine? You don't look so good this morning.” She said, her voice filled with concern. “Stop worrying, mother hen, I'm as good as ever. I'm a businesswoman and I am bound to be tired now. As for the mansion, informed mom that I'll be coming next week.” I spoke, looking through the documents on the desk. “Something happened yesterday, right?” She asked again, her eyes not leaving me. “Do you want something to happen to me?” I eyed her. “Of course not.” She replied almost immediately. A knock came from the door. “Come in.” Raya, my secretary, walked in with documents. She greeted both of us. “This is the list of companies we are working with for our upcoming projects.” She placed the document on the table. “What of M&M, what did they say about the sole collaboration?” Gina asked. M&M was a rising international fruit company, a perfect collaboration to expand my company internationally, but they wanted a double collaboration with another company, and it wasn’t beneficial for us, as we had all the resources. Gina has been the one in charge of the board members while I've been occupied with other work. “They won't budge, and the deadline is closing in. Everyone at the board has agreed with it.” Raya answered, and Gina rolled her eyes. “They are just being greedy. They can all agree to it as they want, as long as you don’t approve it, there is nothing that can be done.” I smiled. “You know that is business. Smaller companies will cling to bigger ones to climb to the top. M&M is doing exactly that, and good for them, they have more than one company to cling to.” I added. “If they won't yield, let's sign the contract since the board has agreed.” The room grew quiet. I looked up from the now-sighed document to Gina. “Aren't you wondering which company it is?” “Nope. As long as it isn’t among my blacklisted companies.” I went back to signing the remaining documents. “It's cordisR group.” I looked up to Gina as her words sank in. Stretching my hand, I collected the remaining document from Raya. Arthur's image appeared with his company's name on top. I flipped through the pages. “You may leave Raya.” I heard Gina said. “What is this?” “Initially, I rejected the project, but Raphael encouraged the board members to pursue the project. I didn’t disclose this to you as I wanted to persuade the company about making us sole owners, but they are hellbent on making a collaboration with cordisR.” “This shouldn’t be a discussion. Arranged a board meeting now, I will go speak with Raphael.” While I was the owner of the company and the biggest shareholder, Raphael was the third biggest shareholder, after my dear Father bought shares from one of my weak shareholders who had sold because of Dad's influence. I knocked on Raphael's door, but got no response. Knowing he was inside and probably fooling around to notice me, I entered without an invitation, and I wasn’t surprised. “Sis,” Raphael said, almost not in shock. The employee, in between his legs, rushed up in fright to fix her clothes. “Miss Carly.” She was flushed at being caught. “It's work hour, what are you doing here?” “I, I wa .....” She shuttered. “Don't be so hard on her, sis, I called her over,” Raphael said with a smile. He stood up and signaled her to leave. She nodded, about leaving. “Mrs Regal.” I read her ID card as she stopped beside me. She was from the marketing department. “A team will be coming to your department later. ” Realisation set on her face, and she nodded, her expression pained but she knew not to beg. She wasn’t the first person to fool around with Raphael and get fired. Though she looked sad, she bowed and left. While it may appear Raphael was interested in her, he wasn’t, it was to plant a mole among my workers. And if I didn’t see them today, someone would have reported it soon. Seeing she was out, Raphael walked toward me. “You didn’t have to do that, she did nothin......” I didn’t let him finish before using the document I had come with to smack his face. He staggered, his eyes realizing what I just did. I threw the papers at him. “I´ve warned you before to stop messing with my employees. Why don't you ever listen?” His brows furrowed in anger as he flipped through the papers. Raphael was younger than me by four years. While we had a striking resemblance due to our father. I couldn’t help but hate him. He act naive and timid, especially when he called me his sister. But that was all a facade, I knew not to trust his actions. “Why are you taking out your anger on me over this?” He yelled, almost whining. “Father was the one who signed it and spoke to the board, not me.” “Why would Father sign with cordisR when it's my project?” I asked, scooting to the floor to look at him. His eyes widened in fear seeing me close. “I don't know, he said it was a good project and working with cordisR leads us more into international market, and besides, the M&M project is of high stakes now.” I glared at him. “Then go tell father, if he insists on working with them, he should consider selling his shares out as well as the board members. My team will be ready to buy them all.”Epilogue Three years later Carly I smiled looking at the TV. Being the weekend, I’ve stayed away from work, leaving everything to Raphael and Gina. While, my relationship with Raphael had improved since that night, I couldn’t trust him fully because of his father and his mother, but I could leave him to some things, especially with Gina. My phone beeped, and I looked at the messages on the screen. Speaking of the devil, it was Gina. “I hope a certain someone is enjoying her stay at home, after leaving me with a prick of a brother to take care of the company.” I typed. “Come on, Gina. Don’t be dramatic. I just didn’t come to work for a day.” I sent it to her. “Whatever you say. Anyways, I hope my sweet boy is doing well. Tell him, I will be with him soon. I miss him so much.” I smiled at the text and typed. “Sure sure. Right now, he is hell-bent on sleeping most of the time because of Arthur. He is missing him.” I laughed at that. “He is spoilt, too spoilt by his fa
Arthur “So, did you ever tell her?” I was trying to understand everything and there was a silent anger. Anger at being ignorant all these years. Anger because I never bothered to look for Carly. Anger because I’d dwelled into other things, thinking that she didn’t want me anymore. Not knowing I was her string to breaking. I should have held Laim down and made him tell me all about her after meeting outside the state. But I had assumed Carly had forgotten me. I wished she had, but instead she was fighting for her life. “No. Till now, Carly believed you saw the letter but never got back to her. She believed you hated her and abandoned her and for this hatred, she had stayed away from you and wanted the wedding null.”I wanted to laugh. Now, I know the reason for her shock the first time we met, the dread that covered her eyes. “I wanted to tell her. But I stopped trying, because hating you was the only thing Carly was holding on to, and telling her would make her go far from me. I
Arthur My hands clenched painfully around the steering wheel. The doctor’s words lingered in my head.“As I said before, it’s a high-profile drug, only distributed to a small group as it’s costly. Whoever is taking this must have gone through something critical to resolve to take this. It has a dreadful side effect. According to my doctor, it helps numb painful psychological memories and also prevent it. You said the person fainted right? I’m afraid this is not the first time and it’s a side effect of the drugs. I wasn't allowed in fully but I’m sure of this. Can you tell me other symptoms the person might have?” I had explained to him, then left his office. Something dreadful must have happened to Carly. Anything that makes one want to erase their memories has to be critical and I couldn’t help but feel it had to do with older Harrington words. He said I had created damage to Carly before. How? What happened years ago? After I moved back to the state on my grandfather’s command,
Arthur It has been a day now yet Cafly wasn't waking. The doctors have said everything was fine. I sighed watching her breathe softly. Her mom had left a while ago, she had cried, then thanked me. But it wasn't needed., because Carly was mine and it was my duty to keep her safe. Liam had left with Gina too. Things don't feel good between them but they aren't chewing each other's heads off. “You should wake up soon, Carly.” I kissed her hand. The drugs administered were impressive. Even though it was just a day, the cuts on her skin weren't as overbearing as before. How I wanted to go back to that container and rip James's fingers off for causing her harm. “I miss you.” I raised my head at Carly’s voice, meeting her face. My eyes widened. “Carly.” I rose, moving closer to her. Heavy sigh of relief coursed through me. My heart tightened seeing her eyes. My hands brushed against her face and she leaned into my touch, her eyes on me. “I missed you so much. I thought something happe
Arthur I entered the container where James was tied. Yes, a container because we were in the middle of the seas, inside my private ship, a perfect place to torture him without the intervention of his accomplice. Yes, I have figured that he had one. One that thought to set up everything in the werehouse burning. That warehouse wasn’t public property. It was private and secluded. If he was able to get access then it was someone of high earn and not to talk about the camera’s setup, then the bomb that followed. Something was missing and I knew it was linked to his accomplice. The light in the dark shone on James. He was tied to a chair in the middle, his legs and hands bound. His face is filled with cuts, his lips burst open. His eyes swallowed even when closed. His clothes are filled with blood, one that had disgusted others but to me, I wanted more and I was going to give him. Not from my boys beating him up, no, that was for wasting their time. “I can see you are already enjoyin
Carly It couldn't be true. Arthur couldn't have been there when the building exploded right? He couldn't have died. I allowed the tears flow down my cheeks. Still in disbelief of what I saw. I licked my dried lips, my eyes blurry from too many tears, yet it didn't stop. I needed to leave. I glanced at the little window again.Even though my body could fit there, what were the chances of me being able to get there and then, my eyes met the chain fixed on my leg. I closed my eyes, helpless at the situation again. Everything was painful. From my face to my body, and my stomach. I placed my hands on my stomach, hoping the pain had subsided. A pain that started after watching that video. The door opened and I snapped my head to it, James walked in, a plastic bag in hand filled with something. A shape of bottles. “I figured we should drink to Arthur burning into ashes or flesh. Very soon, the whole world would be informed of his passing. But before then, let's celebrate.” He sat on th
