It wasn’t a normal evening at all, Eliana was dressed formally even though it was just a dinner with her family. Her hair was open yet nicely styled; she wore a purple top, paired with a black mini shirt which had a slit on the thigh. She was wearing a long brown jacket over it, and had paired it with brown boots, which she had removed after arriving at the dinner.
She was sitting straight, not even daring to breathe loudly around them. She didn’t want them to be more disappointed in her but knew it was too late already, no matter what she did they wouldn’t ever be satisfied. They won’t ever praise her for anything or even show a little sign that they loved her. It felt suffocating to be with them even though she had lived with them for years.
Her mother, Julia, wore a silk dress and was focusing only on her son. Her father, Owen, dressed in a black suit as always, was eating quietly. He had not even looked at her once since she had arrived. Her elder brother, Robert, dressed formally just to show his father he was a good son, was just enjoying the show. He loved to see her suffer and put her in a difficult situation in front of the father.
"You didn't even bother to come back once after leaving this house?" Owen finally spoke up. Eliana froze on hearing those words; she could sense that he was disappointed in her as he refused to look at her in the eyes. None of them knew about her powers and if she did tell them, they’d say she was mad and find another way to get rid or her. They might even send her to a rehab or something.
"She's a little too busy, dad," Robert spoke up before she could. "You know how it is, the youngsters want to enjoy their life to the fullest. And I have got to know that she spends most of her time drinking in bars." He smirked cunningly as once again he was making her look bad in front of the parents.
Eliana hated this. Her brother shamelessly framed her again. She clenched her fingers around the fork that she was holding. She was tired of this, these taunts and arguments. This wasn’t how a family was supposed to be. Why did they even call her when they had to treat her this way? They were never gonna praise her so why even bother keeping up to their expectations.
"I thought you didn't want me to come back…" She finally spoke up. It was the limit, with everything going on in her life, she didn’t want things to just happen and ruin her.
"Why... did you think so?" Her father looked at her in confusion. Her brother and mother, on the other hand, exchanged nervous glances. She had never talked like this, not to her father especially.
"You know, after you threw me out of this house, you'd not want me to come back, right?" She said in a sarcastic tone. They all were shocked to see her like that. She was rebelling in front of her father for the first time.
"Eliana, behave!" Her mother gave her a stern look.
"Oh please," Eliana scoffed. "You worked the most to make that happen. You wanted your son to own everything. Isn’t that why you treated me like a maid since childhood? Beating when you felt frustrated, making me do all your work and letting me freeze outside in the snow."
"Eliana, stop!" Her father shouted at her. She stopped at once as she respected him the most. But there was a gap between the two that could never be fulfilled again.
"Don't forget that you're adopted so we can throw you out anytime we want. " Julia reminded her. Eliana smiled faintly on hearing that.
“Yeah…” She said and forced a smile.
She was an adopted child. Robert wasn't as excellent as a child, which made Oliver anxious. He was always afraid that he won't be able to inherit the family business, therefore, he adopted a girl. Hoping that she would be his heir and also a key to join hands with some other rich businessmen. But little did he know that he was just ruining the girl's life by giving her to the cruel mother. She was bullied by the son and mother’s duo. In the end, they succeeded and threw her out of the house and took over every bit of her property.
"Then why the hell did you adopt me in the first place? To torture me and use me to vent your frustration? I was better off in that orphanage, at least I wouldn’t have suffered so many mental disorders that way.." She finally said it. The thing she had been hiding for years, ever since her first visit to the therapist at the age of 13. And she said it while looking coldly in her father's eyes, making him fear her and realize all his mistakes within seconds.
She smiled as she saw her father lower his head slowly and got out of the chair. She turned around and walked away from them.
In an instant, Owen realized how big of a mistake he had committed. He started regretting not focussing on her life and leaving her alone to deal with everything.
“Get out of here bitch!”
“No one wanted you here, to begin with.”
She was hearing their thoughts again even when she didn’t want to.
“What have I done to this poor child?” Her heart sank on hearing her father’s thoughts. She wanted to hug him and tell him that it wasn’t his mistake, he was manipulated by the other two beside him. But even she knew that it was a little too late to regret these things.
She took a deep breath and left the house. She was feeling bad and hurt. Like she was a monster who had ruined everything but at the same time she knew that it was already ruined years ago, there was no way to save this relationship. Still, it felt as if they had ripped a healing wound open, cruelly and painfully.
“Evelyn, good job today.” The boss patted Evelyn’s shoulder before she left the restaurant. Everyone was congratulating her because she had managed to crack a big deal that day and was also promoted to a higher rank. They all were proud of her as she had achieved a lot after just a year of working in that company. They all had a lot of drinks that day but they were planning to go for a second round. Evelyn smiled as she saw all of them leave the place; she wasn’t going with them cause she needed to head home. She sighed and sat down in her chair as she was really tired. The day had been hectic because she had done a lot of work and had done a big presentation along with site visits. She was exhausted after such a long day and didn’t want to do
After sometime Evelyn was finally outside the building that Amaya lived in. She was breathing heavily and bent down to catch her breath. She had a smile on her face as she felt a little happy seeing herself making an effort to do something for herself. She was finally starting to move on from her past. She had started to resent herself after Valeria left her and had started to hate herself at one point, but now she has finally started to get over it, she was running for her own happiness for once. Taking a deep breath, Evelyn knocked on Amaya’s door. She was nervous about what was going to happen if Amaya would be happy to see her there or not. After a moment, the door opened and she saw Amaya standing there, wearing a grey hoodie with black sweatpants; her hair was tied up in a bun and she was wearing gla
“How was I so stupid? How could I fall for her so easily? Why did I let my walls down for her? It hurts… She’s one of the most popular people in the school and I’m a nobody, I’m just a loser who can’t even make any friends! What the hell was I expecting? She would like me back, no she would just hate someone like me! You don’t deserve any love, you didn’t get any love from your parents! How can you expect it from somewhere else? Just die already! You’re just a fucking burden on everyone!!” Evelyn was shocked after reading all that. Unexpectedly she had tears in her eyes. How could someone love this much and yet hate themselves so much? She picked up a pencil and started writing on the next page, she didn’t know who this person was but she wanted to help them. She was worried about them and wanted to know them.
Everyone was just shocked to see Evelyn with Amaya. They both were the complete opposite of each other, so why were they together now. “I met Amaya outside,” Evelyn said and Amaya greeted everyone, not getting a proper reply from most of them. The smile on Amya’s face was still consistent even when she already knew that most of them hated her. But the person who hated her the most at that point was Valeria, she couldn’t stand her, not in the past, not even now. Valeria always felt like she was the best and when Amaya topped the exams, it pissed her off so she started making people hate her by spreading rumors about her. Amaya wasn’t bothered by that cause she wasn’t allowed to have any friends, to begin with. Her mother wanted her to be a doctor so she made her study hard and told her not to mak
"It's so nice to meet you again," A girl said as she laid her bag on the table. The rest of the people who had already arrived greeted her just as they had for others. It had been 3 years since they last saw each other, which was on the last day of high school, and now the president of the batch 2017 had contacted all of them and invited them to the reunion. Everyone was laughing loudly and enjoying themselves; talking about the old times and how they had been doing after that. In the corner sat a quiet girl, brown eyes and black hair, she was pretty but the aura around her was dark enough to keep them away. “Evelyn! Come and sit with us, it’s been so long, you can’t just stay quiet the whole time.” The president called out to her and she smiled lightly.
Evelyn was fed up and annoyed of all the chatter and laughter in the place when her eyes paused at someone, Amaya, whom she used to notice even in the past. That person set her heart at peace and gave her butterflies. Amaya wanted to run away, she hated crowded places but she was here for just that one person, Evelyn, her unreqruited love. It had been several years but still, those feelings and that happiness that this person brought her was still the same. A reunion, a place filled with happiness but it still had two sad people there. Evelyn and Amaya, two opposites. One was the most popular girl in school while the other one, a loner that no one ever cared about. But what they had in common was their past that no one knew about. It was that one thing that brought the both of them closer...
