Adrian lay down in his cell, carefully watching the guards go by; today was the day he would try to escape this cursed place; since his powers manifested on his sixteenth birthday, he had been practicing so that he could control it for this very day.

When the ability first manifested, he almost killed Derek, one of the guards who always tortured him whenever he felt like it, Derek was hitting him as usual when Shadow took over and cut off his air supply, if Adrian hadn't taken over Shadow would have killed him and the scientist would have discovered his new ability and found a way to use or take it from him.
