LYON'S POV

I walked into the company like I still owned the place.

People nodded as I passed — out of habit, or maybe pity. Either way, it pissed me off. I didn’t need their fake respect. I needed what was mine.

My title.

My power.

My pride.

I adjusted the cuffs of my shirt and entered the executive wing. The receptionist smiled too widely. "Good morning, Deputy MD Lyon." She uttered plainly.

I bit back the urge to correct her. MD, not Deputy. I’d worn that title like a second skin for years. Now, it felt like a name badge slapped onto a corpse.

I stopped at the glass wall that used to frame my office. Her office now.

Chloe was inside, seated behind the same desk I once dominated from. She looked so… natural. As if the space was made for her. Her fingers moved gracefully across the screen, pausing to speak to her assistant with calm authority.

No hesitation. No nerves.

She was already commanding the room.

My chest tightened.

She looked up — just briefly. Our eyes met. Cold. Measured.
