“Err…Emily, Hi?” Imani waved at all of them, confirming she was the one. Emily sprang up on her feet, “It’s really you! I thought you weren’t coming?” Emily asked, her voice sounding excited. Killan stared at Imani beautifully, he was happy she’s here. “Er..I..I thought it wouldn’t be nice if I don’t show up at team dinner party. I’ve seen how much you all put into working at Imani tech and it’s only remarkable if I show up here tonight…” Imani quickly said and her gaze slowly shifted to Killan. “…The food and drinks are on me!” She concluded and everyone in the room cheered. “Yayyy!” They chorused. Imani sat beside Emily but the fun stopped. Everyone was careful not to cross the line. No one wants to be served a sack letter the following day. They were weary of Imani’s presence. Imani noticed the silence, she cleared her throat and raised her glass, “Cheers to partying tonight! Drink , eat and enjoy! Yayy!” Her voice was loud, giving her staff some assurance that she wasn’t going to fire anyone even if they cross the line this night. And right after that, the fun began again. They spinned the bottle and it landed on Imani. “Truth or dare!” One of them asked. “Dare!” Imani answered, one could tell she’s having the most fun. Killan looked at her from where he sat, admiring her. “We dare you to increase our salary!” They all chorused including Emily…it was as if they were waiting for that moment. Silence fell in, Imani wasn’t responding. Causing tension in the room. Then she suddenly laughed and took the glass of wine, “In your dreams!” She gulped down the wine happily. Killan smiled, enjoying this side of her. She was clearly having a lot of fun. 30 minutes passed and Imani wouldn’t stop drinking each time they dared her or asked her to spill the truth. Then the bottle finally rolled and stopped in front of Killan. “Truth or Dare!” They asked him. “Dare!” He answered ready to drink the alcohol. “We dare you to follow us to the Karaoke next!” They all chorused, and his eyes widened. “Huh? Karaoke…everyone is already getting drunk. We should head back home, isn’t it?” He asked looking at Imani. “No!!! The fun just began! Nothing beats a Karaoke night! Let’s go!” And with everyone got up, walking towards the karaoke bar close to Olan’s bar. Imani just sat on her chair while she kept drinking…Killan could tell she is so drunk. He sprang up on his feet and went to her, “You good? Did you want to go home?” He asked then his eyes went to Emily but she has already followed the rest to the Karaoke. “Damn! Who's going to take her home now?” Killan muttered to himself looking at Imani, concern all over his face. “First? I will call your chauffeur now-” Before Killan could finish up his words, Imani already collapsed on the table. “What the—“ Killan cussed licking his lips. At the other side of the bar, two drunk men were just coming in and they looked so dangerous. Killan slide his hands into his hair, frustrated. “Fuvk, I can't leave her out here…” He whispered then with-in a second, he carried her into his arms. Her chauffeur was already waiting outside, Killan sighed, “Thank God, I was just about to call you,” He said. “Ma’am Emily called me.” “Perfect! Please drive her slowly…she’s tipsy and might gag in the car…” Killan told the chauffeur while he carried Imani into the car. He was about leaving when Imani held onto his sleeve, “Don't you dare leave me…” She mumbled in her sleep, her grip was tight that Killan find it hard to pull away. While this was going on, two cars honk at the chauffeur to move his car as they were blocking the way, Killan had no choice but to enter the car as well since Imani had refused to let go of his sleeve. Few minutes into the drive, Imani finally let go of his sleeve but her eyes were opened and it seemed as if she's a little bit sober. “You…! What are you doing here?” She asked after finding out it was Killan sitting beside her. “Thanks to someone’s tight grip…I ended up here,” Killan answered her with sarcasm “Why do you always appear everywhere I go?” Imani said and slowly her eyes were closing. Killan shrug his shoulders, “Because you're pretty?” “Tsk…Did you know why I came here tonight? I was dying to know why you flirt with me when you have a girlfriend? I hate cheater..” She mumbled while Killan raised his eyebrows “Who told you—” He wanted to say something but Imani has passed out again. Killan smiled and slide away her hair from her face, he was admiring her beauty. The car stopped at Imani’s house, “Imani? Imani? We are at your house,” Killan called and she opened her eyes slightly. Her mansion came in view, “Oh! It’s my house! We are finally at my house! Hehe” She smiled and got out of the car, she was about tripping but thankfully Killan was beside her and caught her into his arms. Imani lifted her eyes once again, “Why do you look so handsome today?” Her voice was sweet and it made Killan almost forget his words. “I've always been. Let's get you into the house—you’re so drunk Imani,” Killan told her but Imani held his face. “Why are you so nice to me? All I've done is to avoid you but you’ve always cared! Why are you flirting with me?” Imani snapped. “Because I should be—-” Killan froze when Imani came closer and her eyes never left Killan’s lips and before Killan could even say a word, Imani wrapped her arms around his neck…placing her lips on his.—-“Err…Emily, Hi?” Imani waved at all of them, confirming she was the one. NINETHE ANDERSON VILLALuke stormed back into the house, his face still burning with anger and humiliation. His girlfriend, Sarah, looked up from her book, concern etched on her face."Luke, what's wrong? What happened at Imani’s " she asked, setting the book aside.Luke brushed past her, his tone curt. "Nothing. It didn't work out."Sarah's eyes narrowed, her voice soft. "What does that mean? Did you talk to her?"Luke didn't answer, walking into his study and closing the door behind him. Sarah sighed, “That girl Imani!” She spew out, frustration etched on her face. She knew that look, knew he was shutting her out.“I knew she was going to be a hell of trouble!” She hesitated for a moment, then turned back to her book, trying to focus on the words but her mind kept wandering back to Luke and Imani. In the study, Luke paced back and forth, his mind racing. Imani had played him, had used his desperation against him. He stopped in front of his desk, “…there had to be a weakness, she
EIGHTThe following DayImani stood in front of her closet, her eyes scanning through the array of designer suits and dresses. Since she missed her schedule yesterday, she had tons of meeting waiting for her. She settled on a sleek black dress, pairing it with statement jewelry and heels. As she began to get dressed, her phone buzzed on the dresser. She glanced at it, seeing Luke's name flashing on the screen. “What does he wants from me!” She ignored it, her expression unimpressed. He'd been calling nonstop since she'd served him with the seizure papers. The buzzing continued, persistent and annoying. Imani's eyes narrowed, her patience was a minute from wearing out. What did he want now? She let it go to voicemail, focusing on her hair and makeup. But Luke wasn't giving up. The phone buzzed again, and again, each notification chipping away at Imani's calm demeanor. She finally picked up, her tone icy. "What, Luke? The last time I checked,I have no business with you?"The voice on
SEVEN.“Jaden? Jaden?! Where are you?” Imani screamed around the park like a mad woman, her mind shattered. Where is her boy? Why has he gone to?Her hand slipped into her neatly packed hair, frustrated as she stood at the middle of the park hoping she’d see Jaden come out. She started going towards the other route that leads to where the horses are being fed. No sight of Jaden…Just as she was starting to panic, she heard a laugh and turned to see Jaden standing next to Killan, who was feeding a horse. Jaden's eyes sparkled as he patted the horse's nose. “Jaden!” She called out to her little boy feeding the horses.Imani released a smile as she ran into Jaden’s arm. “Where did you go!” Imani asked after pulling away from the hug, she is just about a minute away from crying. “I-”“He was with me.” Killan stated, his gaze fixed on Imani. “..He was just trying to feed this guy ” he added, nodding towards the horses.Imani's gratitude overflowed. "Thank you so much, Killan. I don't kno
THE FOLLOWING MORNINGImani walked out of her room, her hair fully dolled up and dressed up for the day's work.. But as she walked into the dining room, Jaden was already there and his face lit up, and she knew her plans were about to change."Mommy, Mommy! We're going to see the horses today, right?" Jaden bounced up and down in his seat, his eyes shining with excitement. There's an holiday at his school today and that makes sense for his stay at home.Imani's heart melted as she looked at her son. He had been talking about these horses for weeks, and she had promised to take him to see them. She couldn't say no to him, not when he looked at her like that."Of course, sweetie," she said, smiling. "We'll go see the horses. I'll just finish getting ready."Jaden squealed with delight, bouncing up from his seat and running over to hug her. Imani hugged him back, feeling a surge of love and guilt. She was always working, always busy, and sometimes she felt like she wasn't spending enoug
FIVELuke stormed into Imani's office, his anger boiling over like a pot left unattended. He didn't knock, didn't care about protocol. He just burst in, his eyes blazing with fury.Imani looked up from her desk, a hint of surprise flickering across her face before she composed herself. She leaned back in her chair, “What are you doing here? Who gave you the right to barge in like a dog?!” Luke rolled his eyes and didn't give her the satisfaction of a response. He strode across the room, his fists clenched at his sides. "You think you're clever, don't you?" he spat, his words venomous. "You think you can just ruin my life and get away with it?"Imani raised an eyebrow, her smile never wavering. "I don't think I'm clever, Luke. I know I'm clever. And I'm not ruining your life. You're doing a fine job of that yourself. I mean, look at yourself,"Luke's face reddened with rage. "You fired me! You transferred my debt to yourself! What kind of game are you playing? Didn't I do as you said
