“I hate the rains." Adi could not help but groan as he watched the torrent of water falling in front of him. His plan had been pretty simple. Have lunch, look around the campus and then leave immediately. But now that plan had been washed away by the pouring rain.
"Well then, you shouldn't come here for your further studies. It rains six months out of twelve here." He heard the sly gloating voice and turned his head to see the girl. She sounded particularly pleased over his misery. Why was that?
"Did I offend you by any chance, Fifi?"
Faith widened her eyes at this. " Of course not! We have only met. How could you have offended me? What a question?"
Shaking her head, she turned away and muttered under her breath," It's because of you that I cannot read and now I am imagining Mr Darcy with you face. "
"You said something?"
"No. Nothing."
Seeing that she was not required to take the guest around the campus anymore, Faith decided she could return to finishing off her book. Of course, it wasn't as if she had not read Pride and Prejudice but she particularly enjoyed reading the book.
But she had barely taken any steps away when his voice sounded, " Do you have anything to do to keep from getting bored?"
"Well, you can read books. There is a small library that I can show you in Father's study."
Adi nodded. "Books... Sure."
As he followed Fifi up the stairs, he could not help but wonder how the little girl he remembered had turned out like this? First she had run away and then she had come back after her mother had summoned her, only to keep giving him glares. She used to love following him around and playing with him. He wasn't expecting her to play with him but he did not expect this faintly hostile attitude. Even though she looked cute as she continuously glared at him from behind those big black glasses, he was not on the receiving end of these looks... often. In fact, no one had even given him such an attitude
"Here are the books.."
Adi looked down at the books that were lined up on the two small shelves and almost groaned! "Principles of Quantum Mechanics? History of Time.. Warped Passages. Fundamentals of Physics.." These were all 'textbooks' for Physics! This is what he was supposed to read to pass the time? Heck, he'd be asleep in a minute if he did that! Just then he spotted something.. "Hey fifi. Do you play chess?"
Faith, who had been about to slink away to her room, stopped mid-step with a grimace. Why God why! What sin did she commit that she could not go back to her book today?
"Of course I do. Who do you think plays with dad? Mama wouldn't even recognize the pieces."
"Well, then, will you play with me?"
Adi could see that she wanted to say no. But this time he was not going to let her get out of it. "Come on! I have never played Chess with a human. It's always the computer. And after the first few ones, I have always won! I want to see if you are smarter than a computer when playing chess."
As expected, the challenge brought a fighting light to her eyes. Adi covered his mouth with a fist when she accepted the challenge. "So easy to manipulate."
Soon the chessboard had been set and they were ready to play. Adi, who had been playing chess with the computer for over three years now, did not expect that he would lose out to Fifi in under ten moves. He stared quietly as his king was surrounded on all sides and cornered into a checkmate.
Pushing the chair back with a smile Faith stood up arrogantly and said," You should have asked me how well I played before challenging me! I have been playing since I was nine and am the current reigning champion in the inter-school competitions all over the state and second on the country level!"
But before she could walk away, Adi caught her wrist and pulled her back to the seat opposite him. "This is great! Then you can teach me!"
It was at this moment in time that she made the biggest mistake of her life. For she never could have guessed that after playing with him, she would never be able to play and not think of him.
A few hours later:
"Yes! I finally won one game! Thank you dear teacher Fifi! " Adi stood in happiness and quickly hugged Faith before running down for some dinner.
Meanwhile, Faith could only blink dazedly as she watched him rush out of the stairs. She was supposed to have been reading and she had wasted the whole day playing...
But it had been fun... Sorry, Mr Darcy.. I'll come back to you tomorrow
Adi Grenier smiled and helped his wife with the clip for the necklace and gently kissed her shoulder. "You look pretty, Kathy!" "Thank you Adi. It really is a beautiful gift." "I am glad you liked it. Let's leave Kathy. It is time to check out." As Adi turned to him Kathy could not help herself and caught his wrist, "Adi? Do we have to go back so soon? Can we not have a longer honeymoon?" Adi sighed. "Kathy. I already told you when you insisted on having the wedding this weekend that I would not be able to take a longer leave. I have important clients coming in this evening and I cannot wait longer." But Kathy did not let go. "Then next time. Can you promise me the next time, Adi? When this project is finished, then will you let me be with you longer?" Finally, Adi pulled his hand out of her grasp and answered coldly," Kathy. I already warned you that I don't like clingy women. You and I may be husband and wife but we are not in love and do not have normal marriage. So, it would
In the past: Faith could not have expected that she would not be able to keep her promise to Mr. Darcy once again as she stared down at the cards that she had been dealt. While yesterday the two had battled it out in the many games of chess, Faith had discovered that Adi was a good card player also. Thus, with the rains still going hard at it, she had asked if he would be willing to teach her. Cards had always fascinated her. But sadly the only game she did know to play was Speed. And she was pretty bad at it! Somehow, she always ended up remaining the last person, her cards still in hand. "So, which game do you want to learn?" "I don't even know the names of the games. Just teach me anything." Adi, stopping mid shuffle, looked at her in surprise. "How can you not know any game? Your father is an expert!" "And mother is of the firm opinion that girls should not gamble!" "Really? Aunty does not come across as old fashioned..." "She isn't in some things. But the ones she does bel
Andrew Heming sipped at his glass slowly as he listened to the private investigator give his report. It was certainly not what he had expected. His dear wife who was about to become his ex had been having the time of her life since serving him the divorce papers."So, she has not had any contact with anyone other than her best friend and her lawyer?""No, sir. Not even when she has gone out dancing and clubbing the only people are Miss Grace and Mrs Faith. There have been many times when men have tried to approach the two women but both have always been rejecting them.""I see. And what about Adi?"The private investigator frowned at the sudden question. They were discussing the man's wife, how did Adi Grenier come up in the conversation?"Sir? Mr Adi?""Hasn't she been in touch with Adi? It's been a while since Adi has returned from his honeymoon and even though he was busy with international clients, his project has been approved and he should have been relativel
"Faith! What a surprise seeing you here!" Faith turned around only to be hugged and surrounded by the smell of expensive perfume, almost immediately causing herself a headache. At the same moment, her eyes met Adi's before his gaze shifted away. Stepping back, she smiled at the two people before answering the woman," Kathy! It is a pleasant surprise seeing you here. How are you doing? No need to answer that. You are positively glowing after your marriage!" "Yes! Adi is treating me really well! Are you here to see Andrew? Should we have lunch together? After all, you two are good friends with my husband!" Faith raised an eyebrow towards Adi in question at this. His wife was not aware of her and Andrew's divorce discussions. With a shake of her head, Faith declined," Not today, I'm afraid. I am here to discuss my divorce with Andrew." It was at this moment that Adi Grenier finally spoke, " Are you not planning on reconciling?" Before Faith could answer the question the elevator doo
Adi twisted the fork in his hands as he thought of the time when Faith had agreed to marry Andrew. He was the one who had pushed her into Andrew's arms figuratively and that was his biggest regret now. It was his own cowardice that stared back at him every time he met them and saw her. He always thought to himself that he would be happy seeing her happy but every time he had seen her hold Andrew's hand and smile, he had only hated himself. Looking up, he saw that the restaurant was serving the Trifle Pudding today. The mere sight of the pudding took him back a few years ago. He had already moved onto the campus and taken to stay with Faith's family during the weekends. Though his coursework barely allowed him to take time off, he realized that he could not stay away for longer times as he would miss the homely feeling he had there. And thus he would pull all-nighters just so he would have the weekend free. Most weekends were spent at home playing cards or chess while sometimes he an
Andrew clenched his hands into fists when he heard what Faith had to say and asked slowly, "What do you mean Faith? Are you saying that you will falsely blame me for adultery? Or are you saying that you have committed..." His mind once again flashed back to her and Adi. Even though she had repeatedly told him that they were only friends, he had always felt insecure about the two's relationship because Adi had been the only guy friend in her life in the past. In fact, when Adi announced his marriage to Kathy, he had been the one who felt the biggest relief. He had thought that maybe now he could make progress with Faith without feeling insecure. But instead, Faith had served him with divorce papers...But what she said next made the ground beneath his feet shift and he could feel a sinking sensation overtake his body. "Would it be a false accusation Andrew? You know it well don't you? As for whether I have been true to you? Since the day I said yes to you I did not even think about any
Faith rubbed her forehead as she strode back towards her car. She should have known this would happen. Andrew was never willing to listen to her in the past. To him, just because he said everything would be alright, it should be. After all, the world revolved around him! And she had not even started to count the injustices and insults that he himself had meted out to her. A past memory flashed in her mind, Andrew screaming at her," Why did I have to get saddled with you?" Shaking her head, she opened her car door and was about to get in when her eyes met the man who stood on the opposite side. Seeing that he had her attention, the man angled his head slightly to the side saying nothing. In return, Faith nodded and got into the car, waiting. While she had been trying to not hate Andrew, her old feelings for Adi had kept rearing their head and she had come to a realization. To her, no one could compare to Adi. He would forever be the epitome of a perfect man to her. It was a realizatio
Six Months Later:Faith slowly closed the door to the cafe and locked it tightly before almost jumping in fright at the man standing in front of her as she turned. A kid she corrected herself though."Ross Kudrow! You scared me! Do you want me to introduce you to Mr Groan?"The boy gave a shy smile and flicked his hair back a bit as he spoke, "Sorry! I was just wondering if I could walk you back. It is already late and the streets are abandoned...Who is Mr Groan?"Shaking her head, Faith spoke, "I am a big girl, Ross. I can take care of myself. As for Mr Groan, well it is where I kick you somewhere that it will make you groan. Anyway? Why are you not studying for your exams?"The young teenager rolled his eyes at her and started to walk by her side as he spoke, "I really am not much interested in this you know. It is only because I want to woo you when you are ready that I am working hard."Faith smiled at this before nodding,"Of course. It
