“I hate the rains." Adi could not help but groan as he watched the torrent of water falling in front of him. His plan had been pretty simple. Have lunch, look around the campus and then leave immediately. But now that plan had been washed away by the pouring rain.

"Well then, you shouldn't come here for your further studies. It rains six months out of twelve here." He heard the sly gloating voice and turned his head to see the girl. She sounded particularly pleased over his misery. Why was that?

"Did I offend you by any chance, Fifi?"

Faith widened her eyes at this. " Of course not! We have only met. How could you have offended me? What a question?"

Shaking her head, she turned away and muttered under her breath," It's because of you that I cannot read and now I am imagining Mr Darcy with you face. "

"You said something?"

"No. Nothing."

Seeing that she was not required to take the guest around the campus anymore, Faith decided she could return to finishing off her book. Of course, it wasn't as if she had not read Pride and Prejudice but she particularly enjoyed reading the book.

But she had barely taken any steps away when his voice sounded, " Do you have anything to do to keep from getting bored?"

"Well, you can read books. There is a small library that I can show you in Father's study."

Adi nodded. "Books... Sure."

As he followed Fifi up the stairs, he could not help but wonder how the little girl he remembered had turned out like this? First she had run away and then she had come back after her mother had summoned her, only to keep giving him glares. She used to love following him around and playing with him. He wasn't expecting her to play with him but he did not expect this faintly hostile attitude. Even though she looked cute as she continuously glared at him from behind those big black glasses, he was not on the receiving end of these looks... often. In fact, no one had even given him such an attitude

"Here are the books.."

Adi looked down at the books that were lined up on the two small shelves and almost groaned! "Principles of Quantum Mechanics? History of Time.. Warped Passages. Fundamentals of Physics.." These were all 'textbooks' for Physics! This is what he was supposed to read to pass the time? Heck, he'd be asleep in a minute if he did that! Just then he spotted something.. "Hey fifi. Do you play chess?"

Faith, who had been about to slink away to her room, stopped mid-step with a grimace. Why God why! What sin did she commit that she could not go back to her book today?

"Of course I do. Who do you think plays with dad? Mama wouldn't even recognize the pieces."

"Well, then, will you play with me?"

Adi could see that she wanted to say no. But this time he was not going to let her get out of it. "Come on! I have never played Chess with a human. It's always the computer. And after the first few ones, I have always won! I want to see if you are smarter than a computer when playing chess."

As expected, the challenge brought a fighting light to her eyes. Adi covered his mouth with a fist when she accepted the challenge. "So easy to manipulate."

Soon the chessboard had been set and they were ready to play. Adi, who had been playing chess with the computer for over three years now, did not expect that he would lose out to Fifi in under ten moves. He stared quietly as his king was surrounded on all sides and cornered into a checkmate.

Pushing the chair back with a smile Faith stood up arrogantly and said," You should have asked me how well I played before challenging me! I have been playing since I was nine and am the current reigning champion in the inter-school competitions all over the state and second on the country level!"

But before she could walk away, Adi caught her wrist and pulled her back to the seat opposite him. "This is great! Then you can teach me!"

It was at this moment in time that she made the biggest mistake of her life. For she never could have guessed that after playing with him, she would never be able to play and not think of him.

A few hours later:

"Yes! I finally won one game! Thank you dear teacher Fifi! " Adi stood in happiness and quickly hugged Faith before running down for some dinner.

Meanwhile, Faith could only blink dazedly as she watched him rush out of the stairs. She was supposed to have been reading and she had wasted the whole day playing...

But it had been fun... Sorry, Mr Darcy.. I'll come back to you tomorrow

  • AGAINST THE FATES   Kidnapped

Adi walked from the airport's parking towards the lounge with a grim face followed by his assistant and two other people though they maintained a distance from the man. It was clear to all that their boss was in a 'mood'. To add to their woes, the airport seemed to be extra crowded today while the VIP entrance for private planes was closed. To say he was angry would be an understatement. He wanted to cancel everything and spend his time with Faith but instead, he had not even been able to talk to her today, let alone be with her. She had been so busy during the day that he had been tempted to just go and kidnap her. He'd yearned to ask her to come with him on this trip. Maybe he could come clean about the secrets of the past. But now... maybe once he was back, he'd plan a holiday with her instead of a working trip. If she agreed. His thoughts were interrupted by a silhouette that resembled Faith and he stopped to look. But there was no one. However, he had taken only a few steps when

  • AGAINST THE FATES   I Miss You

"I'm missing you." Faith looked down at the dough she was kneading, seemingly unaffected by Adi's voice but the little glow on her face showed the truth. "Adi, you left only a few hours ago. And you are working, how can you even think of missing me?""I always miss you when I am not with you. If I could, I'd turn myself into that pendant you are wearing and always be near you."Guffawing at the gibberish he was speaking with such a serious face, Faith thanked the heavens she was wearing her pods. If anyone would have overheard, she would die of embarrassment!"Adi! That is the dopiest thing I've heard from you!""Fifi. I can be more dopey. I am going to fire my assistant. He should have consulted me before arranging my schedule."Faith placed the dough into the freezer and commented, "Well, I am sure it is not the first time he has arranged your schedule. So you cannot blame him. You can only blame yourself.""So, what time are you flying out tonight?""It's later, around midnight...F

  • AGAINST THE FATES   A Move

Caitlyn Swarovski looked down at the receipt that she had received from the jeweller and hugged it to herself. Andrew Heming had brought a ring? Could it be that he was planning a proposal? She had been his only girlfriend for these last years so it must be her that he was going to propose to, correct? As she would have happily swirled, the doors to the lift opened and a beautiful young woman walked in. quickly placing down the receipt, she smiled elegantly at the woman who had just entered, "Miss Andrea. How are you?"Andrea Heming smiled thinly at the woman and spoke casually," You have to stop addressing me so formally. You are very close to my brother so that makes us very close as well."Caitlyn scoffed in her heart but maintained a gratified smile on her face and said, "You are too kind, Miss Andrea. But even if I am close, as long as we are not family, it wouldn't be right to call you by name. You must be here to see Mr Heming. But he is not in.""Oh I am here to see him but I

  • AGAINST THE FATES   Just Peachy

As Faith raced into the shower to get ready, Adi fell back onto the bed with a groan. It was only half past six and she was already rushing about. Sighing, he stared up at the ceiling while listening to the water run. She was his... finally. But in addition to the joy there was also fear. There were so many things they needed to talk about, secrets that he needed to reveal so that they would be able to build a strong relationship. Sitting up, he rubbed the back of his neck and pushed aside the blankets, grabbing his shorts. He'd worry later. For now, he needed to make her breakfast or else the girl would skip it. A habit that she had since her own school days! Faith showered hurriedly but as she started to dress, she could not help and look at the little marks that Adi had left all over her. In all her imagination, she had never thought that Adi would be such a feisty lover. He was always such a gentleman. But he had almost turned into a beast in the bed. Even her wrists were slig

  • AGAINST THE FATES   Our First Night

Before Faith could even understand the happiness and elation coursing through her, Adi was kissing her... once, twice... making her realize that now that they had known each other, never would be enough. Immersed in the giddiness of having him, Faith kissed him back... fervently and urgently. Her fingers combed through his hair, settling on the nape of his neck... trying to press closer. Adi kissed her as if his life depended on it. He was ecstatic that this time she had not just accepted his kiss or even only begrudgingly kissed him back. She was in this moment as much as he was. He caressed her bare back, running his finger along the length of her spine. She arched into him at the sensation, a slight moan escaping her as their kiss broke and she threw back her head in abandon. Faith felt as if she was melting into him. His scent seemed to surround her as she inhaled sharply. Never before had she felt like this. This urgency to be with anyone, to feel him so fully pressed against he

  • AGAINST THE FATES   A Confession

As Faith struggled to get off Adi's lap as she protested that she wasn't thirsty, Adi was not yet ready to let her go. Instead, he brought his lips close to hers and whispered," I am thirsty. And jealous." Noticing that Ross had not followed them, Adi pulled her away from the crowd towards a small escape door at the back. Once inside, the music from outside was cut off and the slightly bright light showed her flushed face. Blinking up at Adi, Faith could not help but frown," What is wrong with you, Adi?" "I am jealous. So I wanted to steal you away and I did." "Jealous of what?" Faith questioned while crossing her arms in front of her. Her stance told him she was ready to fight if he ended up speaking the wrong thing. So, he delayed using strategy. Instead of answering, he pulled her close and gently wiped her face with a handkerchief, before placing a small peck on her lips. "I am jealous that I cannot dance with you. I am jealous that all those people can get close to you, even
