The old truck rattled down the dirt road, groaning with every bump. The night air was heavy with the stink of unwashed bodies, cheap liquor, and gun oil. Rogues lounged in the back with Corin, tossing flasks, trading crude jokes, and barking laughter that echoed through the dark like broken glass.

Corin sat stiff, his hands loose but not too loose, his face set in the careful mask he’d been wearing since the camp. He forced himself to chuckle when someone slapped him on the back. He even took the flask when it was shoved into his hands, letting the bitter gin roll down his throat though his stomach turned with every swallow.

All the while, his eyes flicked around, counting how many men there were, where their knives were strapped, where the guns lay in reach. He studied the crest stitched sloppily onto one of their jackets, a claw raking across a red moon. Not Moonbane. Not Ironfang. Something older, dirtier.

But no matter how rowdy the rogues grew, two men didn’t join their laughter.

The road stretched in silence, the hum of the truck’s engine the only sound in the heavy night. Kaelen drove with rigid focus, knuckles white on the wheel, his jaw clenched so tightly Adrian thought it might shatter. Every mile deeper into Ironfang territory pulled the air tighter, heavier, as though the world itself held its breath. Seven hunter wolves sat in the back, grim-faced, checking weapons. The scrape of metal, the click of a blade locking into place, sniffing the air for any change in the wind. Adrian sat in the passenger seat, stealing glances at Kaelen. The tension between them was suffocating. He wanted to reach across the console, to press his hand to Kaelen’s thigh, to remind him he wasn’t alone. But Kaelen’s eyes never wavered from the road. He stared into the shadows beyond the windshield as if he could bend them into revealing every threat ahead. “Kaelen, Adrian said finally, voice low. If you keep grinding your teeth, you’ll have nothing left but dust.” Kaelen’s

Kaelen froze. His wolf surged so violently in his chest it nearly tore out of him. The growl he had been holding back slipped free when the truck door opened and Adrian stepped down beside Lucian. For a heartbeat, Kaelen couldn’t breathe. His mate, his light, his torment, was standing there, eyes widening with the same shock, the same ache. Three weeks of silence, of sleepless nights, of empty calls unanswered… and now Adrian was here. Alive. Breathing. So close he could reach out and touch him. But joy was tangled with fury. Adrian’s lips parted, as if he wanted to smile, to run forward, to throw himself into Kaelen’s arms, but he stopped, swallowing down the wild rush of excitement clawing through him. He tried to compose his face, but his eyes betrayed him. They gleamed with longing. With hurt. With fire. “Is that… the pack truck?” Grandfather’s voice broke the heavy silence from where he stood farther back with Draven. “No, Draven murmured, his sharp eyes narrowing. That’s Adr

Corin’s blood ran cold the instant the cloth was ripped from the captive’s face. Nan. Kaelen’s shadow. His friend. His brother-in-arms. The battered man lay on the dirt, blood caking his lips, bruises staining his cheeks like war paint. His chest heaved shallowly, but his eyes, half-swollen, glazed, still carried that stubborn flicker of defiance Corin knew too well. No, no, no… Corin’s heart thundered. He forced himself not to move, not to flinch. Any sign of recognition could kill them both. “Moonebane’s little hound, Rhaegar announced, pacing before the crowd. His voice rolled like a storm. Proof that the mighty Alpha’s walls crack. Proof that their loyalty breaks. He crouched beside Nan and yanked his head up by the hair. Tell me, dog. Who is your Luna?” Nan spat blood. “Don’t have one.” Rhaegar’s lips curved in a cruel grin. “Wrong answer.” He nodded, and one of the red-eyed warriors pressed a heated iron brand against Nan’s back. The sickening sizzle filled the tent. Nan’s

Adrian woke with a start, breath hot in his chest. The dream clung to him almost too real. Dayumm, he could feel Kaelen’s hands on his skin, Kaelen’s lips brushing his ear, Kaelen’s voice whispering his name like it belonged there. But then the dream twisted, Kaelen turning away, vanishing into shadows, leaving him burning with frustration and longing. He sat up, clutching the sheet to his bare chest, sweat dampening his skin. “Damn it, he muttered, pressing his palms to his eyes. It had been almost two weeks. Two weeks of silence. No call, no text. Was Kaelen even alive? Or worse, had he simply chosen to forget?Adrian’s stomach twisted. He hated how his body ached, how his heart betrayed him. “Why do you still want him? he whispered to himself. He left you.”Dragging himself from bed, he stumbled into the kitchen. The fridge hummed quietly, the world outside silent except for the occasional buzz of a car passing through Sun City at dawn. He cracked eggs into a pan, but the sizzle on

The night air pressed heavy on Corin’s skin as he trudged toward the outskirts of town. His boots sank into the dirt, each step dragging with the weight of the canvas bag strapped to his back. Inside clinked vials of poison and sharpened ammunition, evidence of the life he was drowning in.But it wasn’t the bag that made him sweat. Why the hell did she scream my name like that? She could have exposed him.Selera’s voice still rang in his ears, sharp as a blade. Ezra! She had called it twice, maybe three times, loud enough for every eye in the clearing to whip toward him. Loud enough to split open the cover story he had carefully stitched together.“Damn fool, he muttered, jaw tightening. She’ll get me killed.”He could already picture Orlando’s sly smirk, the suspicion growing in the eyes of every man who had once believed his tale of exile. He needed a new lie, and fast. If he faltered now, everything, his survival, his secrets, his brother, would unravel. The truck appeared at last,

The air shifted. Kaelen felt it first, the prickle of unnatural heat crawling across his skin. His wolf stirred violently inside him. Something was wrong. Something dangerous, this guys were not just ordinary hunter wolves, he could feel the alpha power emanating from one of them. But who was it?.Then the name cut through the night like a blade, snapping him back.“Ezra! What are you doing here?!”Kaelen froze. His head snapped toward the voice, Selera’s, trembling and raw, her golden eyes wide in disbelief.Every warrior turned. Every gaze shifted to the man standing half-shrouded in the rogues’ shadowy ranks. Ezra. No, Corin. His brother wearing another man’s name.Kaelen’s chest tightened, but before he could speak, Selera shouted again, louder this time, almost hysterical.“Ezra! Answer me! Why are you standing with the enemy?!”A ripple of confusion went through the Moonbane's warriors. Some whispered, others stared at Kaelen, waiting for his reaction.Ezra’s face remained stone
