He wanted to warm up too, to smile back at her but he did not. He would not try his luck.

"Congratulations." He told her.

She left her cooking and walked to where he was standing, unafraid. His heart skipped a beat and continued to pound in his rib cage and he wondered what was happening, why was she coming closer today, why did she seem bolder. She stood in front of him and took his large palms into her small ones, his face flushed red and a tear fell on her face. She was crying too, and he wondered why.

"I'm sorry." She whispered to him.

His eyes widened for a moment and he blinked faster. She was apologizing. He did not know what she was apologizing for but what mattered to him was that she was apologizing.

"I am sorry I have not been the best mother... I was scared, I did not know what you had become or who you were anymore and instead of drawing closer, instead of shielding you with my love and care, I neglected and kept my distance. I know how hard it has been for you and I'm
