When Jordan told me I looked beautiful, my whole body locked up for like two full seconds. My brain just… froze. I never expected that Jordan would ever say something like that to me. At least not in that quiet deep tone he used.

I swallowed hard, forced my lungs to work, and whispered, “Uh… thanks.”

But I didn’t look at him again. Nope. I kept my face straight ahead like the wall in front of me suddenly became the most interesting thing in the world.

As I stepped out of his living room, I waited for him to move first, because there was no way I was walking anywhere without knowing where I was supposed to go. He stepped forward, so I followed right behind him, trying to act normal. The moment we stepped into his garage, my jaw almost fell to the floor.
