HIS BROTHER'S BRIDE

ALEX

Alex's shoulders tensed as those words rang in his ears.

Marriage? How?

No one has ever talked about marriage. What was she on about?

He turned ninety degrees, brows furrowing.

"What are you talking about?" He asked Selena.

"The agreement between your father and my Father is that I get married to whoever mounts the throne and become king. I was supposed to marry Craig, your brother but then fate happened and you're now the king, so I have no choice than to marry you." She explained, eyes on her feet.

Alex glared at the girl. His stare could kill as he turned fully towards the girl before him. How could this be? He is not even ready to have a wife. He has a lot on his plate and he is not ready to add marriage to it. How could this kind of agreement be made without his consent?

Exhaling deeply, he looked into her eyes. He knew something was attracting him to her whenever their eyes met, it was as if she was calling out to a part of him but he buried the crazy thought in his mind and focused on the situation on ground.

"I'm the king now and I can do anything. Don't worry, I'll change the decree and we can go our separate ways." With that he left the room, leaving Selena to her thoughts.

She was supposed to jump up and squeal in delight but somehow, her heart squeezed at the King's reply. She had no idea what else she was expecting to hear. But whatever it was, she was now free to do whatever she wants. She sat down by the bed and awaited her dress just like a bride awaiting her groom.

Looking outside the window, she saw blood splattered across the wall and some men trying to scrub the mess with a sponge and water. She rose and walked slowly towards the view.

Soon, memories came flashing back. The large red eyes, the intense annoying music, her ragged breaths, and the sudden leap of the monster. All the memories of the previous night came rushing back and she couldn't help but shiver at her own memories.

She gasped when she felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned.

An old maid stared back at her quizzically.

"Your dresses have arrived, my Lady," she smiled broadly, showing her scarce teeth.

"Thank you. I'll just dress up and show up for breakfast," Selena walked to the dresses to check them out.

"Alright. I'll just prepare your bath right now."

The old woman disappeared into the bathroom while she looked through the boxes that has been wheeled into the room. Gowns of different sizes and colors are folded in the box while a zip on the side held jewelry and hair clips. The other side had a flat shoe and hair sprays just the right one for her hair. A small bag lay beside the box and as she opened it, she brought out a diamond necklace. While she was admiring it, the old lady announced her bath was ready and left the room after Selena thanked her.

Dressed in a white shiny gown that fitted perfectly and a flat shoe, she brushed her hair and wore it down. Her hair cascades over her bare shoulders as the gown was off the shoulder. She wore the diamond necklace and didn't forget to wear the bold red lipstick she found in the box.

She walked into the dining room that contained a long table surrounded by silver chairs with a long white and silver chair at the center. It was obvious that was for the King and that was exactly where the new King of Forester sat down. His hair was combed in the same style but this time he let some strands loose and the breeze coming in from the trees by the window kept slapping those strands against his eyelashes.

He wore casual brown breeches that were too fitted for a King and his shirt slightly opened at his throat revealing the tiny sexy mounds on his neck. He had rolled the sleeves up to his elbow to reveal perfectly rough but touchable forearms laced with speckles of hair.

Even in casual clothing, the devil Prince or King still looked more handsome than the devil himself. His head was bent over the papers and a mug of tea was placed in front of him. She walked up to the table and sat by his right, leaving one chair between them.

"How're you doing this morning, Miss Selena?" He asked, eyes still fixed on the papers.

"Very well, your Highness." She bowed slightly while the maids were arranging the table.

Soon, she heard clapping footsteps behind her causing her to roll her eyes.

"Oh, my beautiful niece! I couldn't help but be worried about you the whole night. I hear you were attacked by Krepe himself. That bastard!" Ellie kept chattering as she positioned herself opposite Selena and Drake strode in too, staff in hands.

"We have been living very peacefully for ages without interruption. Our formation never failed during the reign of other Kings. Why is it different now?" Drake strode in, his black staff in hand. The man went beside Ellie to sit but not without glancing mischievously at Selena.

Krepe is a demon lord who had terrorized the werewolf world for years. After the previous werewolf kings of three powerful packs formed an alliance against him, he went into hiding and only the goddess knows why he was back.

"I'll have to meet with the Army packs and draft a new plan. If Krepe can attack the pack with little effort, it shows we are not safe," Alex dropped the papers on the table. If other people drew back from him because of the rumors about him, definitely not the Stan family.

Well, except Selena. She has always been the black sheep of the family. He rarely knows about Drake or his family due to the fact that he barely stays around. All he knows was the fact that he was his father's best friend.

While he considered the late Prince lucky to have her betrothed to him, he remembered her question about marriage and wondered if he should ask Drake. But with Krepe's issue at hand, they've got more important issues than others as trivial as marriage discussions.
