Anna tearfully packed her things into her bag with the help of her friend as she prepared to leave her pack. No one defended her this time, not even her aunty when they heard she was going to the Dark Edge pack. She felt very helplessly facing this mess all by herself with no one to help her.
Most female wolves would rather slice their throats than endure such humiliation, so should she do the same thing right now? She was sure that her life in the future was going to be nothing short of hell, which made her wonder if she should just exit this world quietly…
“The Dark Edge wolves are here,” Tiffany informed her, peeking through the window as the sunset glow shined through her bed. “I am so sorry, Anna.”
“What about Darius? How is he doing?”
Her best friend gave her an uncomfortable glance and turned away to stare at the wall as if she hadn't heard anything. Anna was about to demand an answer from her, but a deep, familiar voice responded instead. “He is getting married to his true mate tomorrow, so he is definitely doing well.”
She turned around to see Kodiak giving her a mocking gaze with his bright ruby eyes. Her breath hitched when she heard his words. “His true mate? What are you talking about?”
“Her name is Larissa. He has already impregnated her, and now she will be his future Luna. You were just his second possible mate.” Kodiak's words were full of disdain and derision when he told her what he had been wanting to say for a long time. He had known about it, but he didn't say it because he wanted her to make her own choice.
Yet, she had chosen a scumbag instead.
Anna sank into the bed while Tiffany excused herself from the room, leaving the both of them alone. She never knew much about the concept of mating because her parents died early, and her aunt was cold to her. Hearing about this made her feel more horrible than she had been since her coming-of-age ceremony.
She looked up at him with wet, blurry eyes. “What is going to happen to me now?”
“Well, you belong to me now, since your Alpha and Luna want you out of their pack as soon as possible.” He told her in a cold, bleak tone. “Your body, your mind, your soul. You will be mine to play with until I have no more use for you.”
Anna's intentions to apologize to him quickly flew out of her mind when she heard his plan to turn her into a toy. She growled at him instead. “That's never going to happen.”
“That's more like it. I have always loved a challenge.” Kodiak's red eyes brightened further as he approached her, allowing his dominance to oppress her until she was flinching away from him. His amused eyes quickly changed as he lifted her chin with his forefinger. “But it will do someone like you no good to go against me, Anna. Remember that.”
He let go of her and walked away, hearing the dull sound of her collapsing on the floor and wailing. The man and wolf were instantly torn by the unexpected action, but he forced himself to leave. He was no longer the man he was six months ago, coming to woo a girl with high expectations. Now, he was leaving with nothing but an empty heart.
Once it was night, a large gathering of wolves assembled at the Stark Pride border, dressed in two different attires. One group was dressed in black and silver, while the other wore icy blue fur coats. The two brothers hugged each other tightly before they separated, along with their wolves.
Zayn spoke up first. “Take care of yourself and remember what I told you. You should wear the bracelet blessed by the moon goddess to restrain your wolf.”
“I know. I will see you again next month.” Kodiak nodded obediently and showed him the silver beaded bracelet on his wrist. It hurt like hell with the metal burning into his skin, but it wasn't anything he could not handle. It helped to keep him sane.
There was a distant scowl made by the Stark Pride Alpha because the silver bracelet was not cheap at all, and it had come from his pocket. He could not wait to send them off his territory, so he stayed behind patiently to watch them leave.
The two men exchanged a few more words before Zayn finally started walking ahead in the opposite direction as they had planned. Anna saw his icy blue eyes land on her for a minute before he ignored her existence and walked away. Unlike his brother, Zayn wore his cold lethality like his second skin and was not afraid to use it on someone if they vexed him.
Once the Frost Fang wolves had left, Kodiak still stayed behind in silence, as if waiting for something from her Stark Pride pack. She instantly panicked but didn't dare to say a word, while his Beta bravely came to his side to ask. Whatever he said only made the wolves around her scowl while looking back at her.
She finally understood what he was doing after waiting another few minutes. She was finally leaving her pack, so people were supposed to come see her off and wish her a good journey. But no one came at all. Not even her aunt and best friend were present.
If this were in the past, she would have thought it was a thoughtful gesture, but after their little fight a few hours ago, she knew it was otherwise. Despite that, she could not hold back her tears when she bravely faced him.
“Alright, you have made your point clear. I now know I am alone and unwanted by everyone. We should go now.”
Kodiak's eyes widened a bit before it settled with slight mockery on the surface. He chuckled deeply and nodded at her. “You are the one who said it. Men, let's go back home.”
Anna later woke up in an unfamiliar room where she jerked up from the bed after she noticed she was naked under the blankets. She remembered she fainted when she was travelling with Alpha Kodiak but the rest memories were very blurry to her, she had no idea how she arrived here. Her eyes went to the orange sun setting in the west through her window. A knock on the door mysteriously appeared like an answer to her question, as an old woman walked into the room and placed a food tray and some clothes on the table. “Here you go. Alpha Kodiak said you must finish everything on the plate and come out immediately.”“Thank you.” Anna was famished as well so she did not hesitate to take the food being offered to her. Her eyes wandered around her surroundings before she asked the old woman. “Where am I?”“You are in DarkEdge territory.” The old woman gave her a side glance before she made her way to the door. Anna could sense her hostility so she did not bother to make any further conversation
When Anna regained her consciousness, she could faintly hear some angry and soothing tones beside her which made her scrunch her eyebrows. The people around her didn't seem to notice her small actions as they conversed with one another. Eventually, she recognized one of them and tensed on the bed as she listened...“What do you mean she is still adjusting to the pack? Does it seem like I brought her here to enjoy some sort of paradise?” Kodiak growled as he paced back and forth, ranting to his Beta who had returned his mate a few minutes ago. “I am just trying to take care of your wolf, Sir. You shouldn't go savage now you have returned to the pack. The elders have been keeping an eye on you ever since they heard about the rumors.” “Do you think those old geezers can do anything to me right now?” Kodiak bared his teeth ferociously and halted at one spot, turning his back at his unconscious mate lying on the bed. “If they had the guts to face me, they would have done it from the day
When Anna heard the door open, she immediately tensed again and retreated to a corner expecting to see the frightening Alpha but a woman showed up instead. She recognized her instantly and forced herself to stand straight up. This woman was her mate's mistress, and she had a feeling that she was not here for anything good. “Oh, sweetie...” Giselle dropped the tray on a nearby table when she saw Anna in such a defensive position. She approached her gently, giving her a sympathizing look as she sat on the bed next to her. She reached for Anna's hand and said. “You know, I think this is all my fault.”Anna scrunched her eyebrows in puzzlement, which urged Giselle to explain further. “When Kodiak told me he had found his mate, I wanted to stop him from leaving but he didn't listen. His father had just passed away, so he had many pressing tasks to complete in the pack but he didn't care about that. He only wanted to be near you. If I had prevented him from leaving, he would have never bec
Anna locked her room door to stop her mate from entering her room before she jumped on the bed crying and wailing under her bedsheets. She had gotten hungry when she woke up from a nap and reasoned that Giselle and her friends must have finished baking the cookies so she went to hunt for some food. She sensed Kodiak's return and wanted to see him so they could find a common ground. After thinking deeply for some time, she decided to try and reconcile with him, maybe he would eventually forgive her and let her go.But all of that is worthless now. She had seen and heard everything that she needed to know, and she couldn't help but feel hurt by all the words he had said about her back there. It was clear that he loathed her very existence, that was something that pained both her and her wolf because this situation was not entirely her fault at all. Her ignorance had caused her to hurt both of them, she had turned her mate into a savage wolf because of her need to be loved and her desire
Anna descended from her room after suffering a great humiliation in the afternoon and headed for the kitchen to get some food. On her way to the kitchen, she met Kodak and his Beta, Knox seated along with Giselle for dinner having a light-hearted conversation until she arrived. She quickly served herself some food and went straight to the dining room where she sat and nibbled on her food quietly, bringing in a cold air along with her. The Dark Edge alpha and his wolves immediately fell silent at her unexpected arrival, staring at her strangely as they watched her eat. The former jovial atmosphere was now filled with uncomfortable tension but Anna continued to pretend that she did not notice their looks at all. Giselle who couldn't tolerate her silence anymore finally spoke up. “Anna, I didn't know you would come down to eat, or else I would have gotten the maids to inform you that dinner was ready. How's the food?”Anna stuffed her face with food to avoid answering this two-faced sn
Several days later, Kodiak roamed the large plot of land scanning a half-erected structure that was supposed to be the new pack orphanage with keen eyesight, revising every detail with the architect by his side as he went along the surroundings. The loud hammering sounds and machine drills helped to clear his head and keep him focused for a while, but that didn't last long because a certain person kept appearing in his mind. His proud wolf which was his other half would probably never admit it, but he could sense its longing for its mate and its restlessness about the distance between them. It was still licking its wounds from the rejection it suffered, rolling in its hatred and resentment because this was something that should never happen to a rogue wolf. His Dark Edge pack was one of the most powerful packs in the Great Landmark, along with his twin's Frost Fang pack but his men were a very peculiar species of wolves, born with rogue tendencies right from birth, unlike the rest of
Anna joined her friends as they tried to open the door, but it refused to budge one bit. Catherine had gone as far as to attempt to break the door down but it was modified with a special type of iron very similar to silver. Vivian immediately broke down and started crying loudly, her face covered in tears and snot as she told them in distress. "This is bad, this is so bad...what are we gonna do now?!"Catherine was also shaken by the current situation, but she tried her best to put up a brave front in from of them. "Don't be so hysterical, Vivian. There is no way Giselle can keep us locked up here for more than a day or people will surely notice our disappearance.""You are just saying this because your grandmother is a pack elder, but what if Giselle's father interferes in this?" Vivian glared at her with reddened eyes. "Our alpha is the only person who can truly save us, and he is not even around!"Anna felt frustrated and powerless about their situation. They had gotten themselves
An hour later...Anna paced back and forth anxiously in the hallway outside her bedroom where her mate was being treated by the pack physician. According to the pack physician, Kodiak had given up all of his wolf's energy to strengthen their weak mating bond and save her life. She tried to reassure herself that the pack physician was a skilled healer who was blessed by the moon goddess to save wolves like them. She was scared to her wits, thinking that she would never forgive herself if anything happened to him, because it would be all her fault. She prayed fervently that he would wake up soon but someone was determined not to leave her in peace. Giselle sobbed pitifully holding onto her handkerchief and accused her bitterly. "This is all your fault, Anna. Kodiak has not been able to have a peaceful moment in his life ever since you stepped into his life."Her words directed everyone's attention to Anna, but the submissive wolf forced herself not to cower from all the gazes on her.
