Anna later woke up in an unfamiliar room where she jerked up from the bed after she noticed she was naked under the blankets. She remembered she fainted when she was travelling with Alpha Kodiak but the rest memories were very blurry to her, she had no idea how she arrived here. Her eyes went to the orange sun setting in the west through her window.
A knock on the door mysteriously appeared like an answer to her question, as an old woman walked into the room and placed a food tray and some clothes on the table. “Here you go. Alpha Kodiak said you must finish everything on the plate and come out immediately.”
“Thank you.” Anna was famished as well so she did not hesitate to take the food being offered to her. Her eyes wandered around her surroundings before she asked the old woman. “Where am I?”
“You are in DarkEdge territory.” The old woman gave her a side glance before she made her way to the door. Anna could sense her hostility so she did not bother to make any further conversation with the woman and watched her go away.
She ate the delicious food with relish and quickly rushed into the bathroom to change. She was now in a territory so the last thing she wanted was to continue being in this naked state. When she was done, she quickly left the room since she didn't want another person to come looking for her.
When she left the room, she met the familiar Beta standing in the hallway. He straightened his back and stared at her with his dull red eyes. “You are finally out. Follow me.”
He guided her to the living room where she met Alpha Kodiak sitting on a couch silently waiting for her along with the members of his pack. He seemed to be sitting in a relaxed position, but his powerful, commanding presence could be sensed from where she was standing. He looked so different from the man who spent time with her in her pack a few months ago, it made her which one was the real him.
“I am here, Alpha Kodiak.” She bowed her head slightly as a greeting.
The Dark Edge alpha got up without a word and brought out a knife from his pocket. He sliced her palm at a decisive speed, letting the blood pour into his hand as she winced from pain. It was only then he spoke up and it was to the people behind him. “As Alpha of the Dark Edge pack, I welcome this new wolf into our home. She will be one of us from now on, sharing our victory and defeat, glory and honor, woe and suffering.”
The other wolves growled in response but none of them took a step forward like she had expected. He was trying to initiate her into his pack, and according to the custom, the rest were meant to share skin contact with her to show their acceptance.
Kodiak's wolf quickly rose to the surface when it saw their unwillingness, turning his face to growl at them until his Beta stepped forward and placed his hand on their own. One by one, the rest were forced to come and accept her while she nearly withered from relief and embarrassment.
When the imitation ceremony had finished, he introduced her to them. “This is Anna. She will be staying here as my mistress from now on.”
Anna stiffened a bit before she pulled away her hand from his own. “I told you that is not going to happen.”
“This is the last time you will interrupt me when I am speaking. It is not like you have a choice.” Kodiak warned her harshly, earning her some snickers from the people surrounding them. Tears instantly gathered in her eyes from his words, but she refused to let them fall in front of him and his mean pack.
She excused herself from him and was on her way back to her room when she met a woman walking down the hallway from the opposite direction. The sight of the woman's skimpy nightgown made her halt as she turned around to ask politely. “Hello, I am Anna. May I ask who you are?”
“Didn't Kodiak tell you about me?” The redhead seductive woman released a small smile when she heard her name. “ I am Giselle, Kodiak's second chance mate. Since we are going to be living in the same house, we should get along with each other.”
Anna stumbled at her words, holding onto the wall behind her. Her whole body trembled, watching the lady walk away with a satisfied smirk on her face. She could finally see that the Dark Edge alpha was not joking when he said he would deal with her. This humiliation was not one she could bear.
She had to think of a way to leave this pack immediately.
Anna grabbed her unpacked bag without a second thought and snuck out of her room while hearing the loud sounds of celebration in the living room from the pack members who were happy about their Alpha's safe return. After minutes of roaming the hallway, she successfully left the house through the backdoor in the kitchen. Since everyone was inside the house, she could easily escape and look for a better life someplace else.
She ran with all her might after she jumped from the gate and her feet touched the ground. She had no idea where she was going as she maneuvered around the lands, so she could only rely on her extraordinary senses. Her heart beat loudly in her chest when she saw the pack gates within her sight, and she increased her speed only to collide with a solid chest that made her dizzy.
A tall, burly man she reckoned she had seen in Kodiak's house a few minutes ago, steadied her with a calm expression on his face. It was Knox, Kodiak's Beta and right-hand man. He said to her with a low growl, “Miss Knightley, where do you think you are going?”
Anna gasped out of fright and passed out once again.
When Anna regained her consciousness, she could faintly hear some angry and soothing tones beside her which made her scrunch her eyebrows. The people around her didn't seem to notice her small actions as they conversed with one another. Eventually, she recognized one of them and tensed on the bed as she listened...“What do you mean she is still adjusting to the pack? Does it seem like I brought her here to enjoy some sort of paradise?” Kodiak growled as he paced back and forth, ranting to his Beta who had returned his mate a few minutes ago. “I am just trying to take care of your wolf, Sir. You shouldn't go savage now you have returned to the pack. The elders have been keeping an eye on you ever since they heard about the rumors.” “Do you think those old geezers can do anything to me right now?” Kodiak bared his teeth ferociously and halted at one spot, turning his back at his unconscious mate lying on the bed. “If they had the guts to face me, they would have done it from the day
When Anna heard the door open, she immediately tensed again and retreated to a corner expecting to see the frightening Alpha but a woman showed up instead. She recognized her instantly and forced herself to stand straight up. This woman was her mate's mistress, and she had a feeling that she was not here for anything good. “Oh, sweetie...” Giselle dropped the tray on a nearby table when she saw Anna in such a defensive position. She approached her gently, giving her a sympathizing look as she sat on the bed next to her. She reached for Anna's hand and said. “You know, I think this is all my fault.”Anna scrunched her eyebrows in puzzlement, which urged Giselle to explain further. “When Kodiak told me he had found his mate, I wanted to stop him from leaving but he didn't listen. His father had just passed away, so he had many pressing tasks to complete in the pack but he didn't care about that. He only wanted to be near you. If I had prevented him from leaving, he would have never bec
Anna locked her room door to stop her mate from entering her room before she jumped on the bed crying and wailing under her bedsheets. She had gotten hungry when she woke up from a nap and reasoned that Giselle and her friends must have finished baking the cookies so she went to hunt for some food. She sensed Kodiak's return and wanted to see him so they could find a common ground. After thinking deeply for some time, she decided to try and reconcile with him, maybe he would eventually forgive her and let her go.But all of that is worthless now. She had seen and heard everything that she needed to know, and she couldn't help but feel hurt by all the words he had said about her back there. It was clear that he loathed her very existence, that was something that pained both her and her wolf because this situation was not entirely her fault at all. Her ignorance had caused her to hurt both of them, she had turned her mate into a savage wolf because of her need to be loved and her desire
Anna descended from her room after suffering a great humiliation in the afternoon and headed for the kitchen to get some food. On her way to the kitchen, she met Kodak and his Beta, Knox seated along with Giselle for dinner having a light-hearted conversation until she arrived. She quickly served herself some food and went straight to the dining room where she sat and nibbled on her food quietly, bringing in a cold air along with her. The Dark Edge alpha and his wolves immediately fell silent at her unexpected arrival, staring at her strangely as they watched her eat. The former jovial atmosphere was now filled with uncomfortable tension but Anna continued to pretend that she did not notice their looks at all. Giselle who couldn't tolerate her silence anymore finally spoke up. “Anna, I didn't know you would come down to eat, or else I would have gotten the maids to inform you that dinner was ready. How's the food?”Anna stuffed her face with food to avoid answering this two-faced sn
Several days later, Kodiak roamed the large plot of land scanning a half-erected structure that was supposed to be the new pack orphanage with keen eyesight, revising every detail with the architect by his side as he went along the surroundings. The loud hammering sounds and machine drills helped to clear his head and keep him focused for a while, but that didn't last long because a certain person kept appearing in his mind. His proud wolf which was his other half would probably never admit it, but he could sense its longing for its mate and its restlessness about the distance between them. It was still licking its wounds from the rejection it suffered, rolling in its hatred and resentment because this was something that should never happen to a rogue wolf. His Dark Edge pack was one of the most powerful packs in the Great Landmark, along with his twin's Frost Fang pack but his men were a very peculiar species of wolves, born with rogue tendencies right from birth, unlike the rest of
Anna joined her friends as they tried to open the door, but it refused to budge one bit. Catherine had gone as far as to attempt to break the door down but it was modified with a special type of iron very similar to silver. Vivian immediately broke down and started crying loudly, her face covered in tears and snot as she told them in distress. "This is bad, this is so bad...what are we gonna do now?!"Catherine was also shaken by the current situation, but she tried her best to put up a brave front in from of them. "Don't be so hysterical, Vivian. There is no way Giselle can keep us locked up here for more than a day or people will surely notice our disappearance.""You are just saying this because your grandmother is a pack elder, but what if Giselle's father interferes in this?" Vivian glared at her with reddened eyes. "Our alpha is the only person who can truly save us, and he is not even around!"Anna felt frustrated and powerless about their situation. They had gotten themselves
An hour later...Anna paced back and forth anxiously in the hallway outside her bedroom where her mate was being treated by the pack physician. According to the pack physician, Kodiak had given up all of his wolf's energy to strengthen their weak mating bond and save her life. She tried to reassure herself that the pack physician was a skilled healer who was blessed by the moon goddess to save wolves like them. She was scared to her wits, thinking that she would never forgive herself if anything happened to him, because it would be all her fault. She prayed fervently that he would wake up soon but someone was determined not to leave her in peace. Giselle sobbed pitifully holding onto her handkerchief and accused her bitterly. "This is all your fault, Anna. Kodiak has not been able to have a peaceful moment in his life ever since you stepped into his life."Her words directed everyone's attention to Anna, but the submissive wolf forced herself not to cower from all the gazes on her. Th
From that night, Anna visited Kodiak's room every day bringing him food and accompanying him whenever she could. At first, she attempted to take care of him secretly but she was caught on the third day receiving a harsh scolding from her mate and then, she ran back to Catherine's house in tears, swearing never to return. It was Catherine's grandmother, Mrs. Hoyles who had coaxed her to change her mind and urged her to be persistent in her mission to reconcile with her mate. The old woman had slowly warmed up to her when she heard Anna's side of the story and gave her some tips to please her mate. Anna's reasoning had also changed in the past few days after learning more about her mate's true nature, she was filled with guilt that he had changed from the sweet, considerate alpha who won the hearts of his pack with his good deeds to a cold, distant savage wolf. She was now determined to help him regain control over his wolf, and hopefully, she would be able to convince him to release he
