It was an eight hours flight to Chicago and throughout the entire flight, Rain peeked at Ketra intently taking in every inch of her beauty.
Ketra made herself busy on her iPad that she picked up from the ground where it had fallen and even though she advised herself to concentrate countless times, she still couldn't. She was continuously stealing glances at Rain who shot her a captivating smile whenever their eyes met.
Initially, Rain had thought of exchanging seats with the man on Ketra's side but his wolf surmised how mate wasn't too amiable for now. Even Carter his wolf was yearning to meet Ketra's wolf but he slowed down and swallowed his hype. Mate was still in their reachable sight and they would convince her after landing. She didn't reject the bond immediately and that gave him sufficient time to convince her.
When they landed, Alpha Rain hurried but he was careful because they were in the human city and unnecessary speed would make everyone turn attention to them. He approached Ketra and attempted to hold her hand but she ignored him and left his hand hanging.
"You can't treat your mate like this. At least let's find a place and talk." Alpha Rain reasoned as he followed behind Ketra.
He could see how elegant and classy she walked. Her slender body especially her waist area and her small curves. She had long legs and he imagined how she looked in a short dress as she was in denim blue jeans at the moment.
She didn't wear expensive brands but she still looked gorgeous and classy in his eyes. With those shades on and her hair bouncing with the rhythm created by her steps, she appeared like a fashion model on a runway!
"Talk about what Mr. Rain? Even though I won't reject you, I won't accept you either." Ketra's statement made Rain's heart flutter. She won't reject him? That was a huge step so far but what about not accepting him?
"Why can't you accept me then? We are mates and we are supposed to get to know each other. I know that you said you won't need any man to possess you but am your mate and we belong together." Rain spoke in almost pleading. Ketra didn't want to believe how right his words were and how it felt that way.
He wondered why this woman was bound on ignoring the fact that they were meant to be together.
Ketra closed her eyes for seconds to push away an invisible force inside her that called for her to turn around and bury her head in that chest. She wondered what his scent was since she couldn't inhale it yet. She knew that some werewolves were good at suppressing their scents every time they left their packs to join the human city.
There wasn't any big deal about that since humans couldn't smell them anyway but they did it in case other werewolves met them. Many werewolves were in the human city intending to take over their territories and resources and they saw their fellow creatures as a threat to what they wanted to do.
"Sir Rain, I would appreciate it if you take it as if nothing has ever happened between us as it is. Maybe you have things to do and I have important things to attend to as well." Ketra said and walked away immediately.
Rain had been trying to digest her words by the time he realized that she was walking away, he saw her entering a red limousine that seemed to have been waiting for her. He halted his steps when it started at a speed and was out of sight in seconds.
Rain sighed and jabbed his hand in his hair. Failure, disappointment, and incapability all shadowed his heart. Maybe the elders were always right when they said that he was incapable. He thought that he had trained and learned enough to deal with the pack matters. But now that he thought about it, he was a failure. He failed to secure the mate bond and watched as she left.
To his deepest defeat, he didn't even realize she was walking away. What a joke he made on himself.
Rain walked out of the airport dejectedly and headed on to find a hotel where he could be alone and find ways to correct this mess or even forget about the damned bond that couldn't let his mate be willing to even touch his hand.
He wanted to call his beta and inform him that he found her, the one he tried to find in every corner of the earth but he wasn't even sure of what to answer in case he asked about her whereabouts. As mates, the newly mated, they needed to be in each other's proximity as long as they could but his case was different.
Rain cursed inwardly as he remembered her scent of vanilla mint which made him crave to inhale it again. To his disappointment, he didn't get to hug her even for a second to get her scent all over him. He was dejected and disappointed in himself. At the moment, he doubted if a title as an Alpha of such a big pack deserved him. Leading wasn't about the title but one's capability and his incapability to keep his mate was a sign that he couldn't lead his pack.
......
Ketra buried her face in her palms as she tried to calm herself down. She felt like a part of her was taken away and the emptiness was intense. She had to walk a runway in a few hours but she felt like she was suddenly too lazy to take it. This was not her usual self and she knew the reason.
She was bound on leading her independent life that she didn't realize how it felt to meet the one that is meant for her. She had gone as far as ignoring her feelings but now she felt like traveling back to the time when they met and redo things.
The Blue moon pack felt different now. The air was lighter. The tree stood still, no longer whispering warnings. Rain returned before sunrise, his fur stain with blood, dirt and ashes but his spirit clean. Victory had never tasted so bitter-sweet until... he saw her.Ketra was waiting on the steps of the pack doctor's cabin, wrapped in a showl. Her eyes reflected something only Rain could name. Home. The moment their eyes met, he shifted. She smelled so good, he dropped to his knees before her and pressed his forehead on her belly with his arms circled around his chest. How he missed this feeling of being in his mate's proximity. He would turn the world around to maintain this peace and feel this way forever."I came back." He whispered as he inhaled her addictive scent. He had missed her and he was worried about her all this time. But knowing that the man whose intention was to use her for his spells had died with them, he felt at peace."I know," she murmured, her fingers threading t
Brice tore off the remnants of his robe leaving his chest bare. It was covered in dark runes that pulsed with unholy light. His body twisted, bones cracking as the dark magic coursed through him, warping his form into something no longer human nor wolf.Rain took a step forward, his eyes narrowing. "He's merging. Dark magic with his wolf. This is what Josh warned us about." he said through gritted teeth.Josh and Greg immediately backed toward Rain and formed a triangle with the rest of the warriors circling behind them. Then Brice let out a roar. It wasn't just a battle cry. It was pain and fury and something ancient. The runes of his skin erupted in black flames and his transformation finished. His body appeared larger and his muscles had overgrown. His eyes burning red. Shadowy tendrils twisted from his back like wings that never formed."You think I will fall today?" Brice hissed. "You should have killed me before I became god."Rain's claws extended fully, his body glowing faintl
The deeper they went, the darker it grew. Even thought the sun had risen above the horizon, the cursed forest blocked out nearly all the light. Trees bent unnaturally with branches twisted like clawed hands. The entire atmosphere was strange but expected nothing less than that.“We’re almost there.” Josh told Rain when he sensed he was looking at him from the sides.“This is where he draws his circles. Blood, bones, spells, He’s been using this place for year.”“Then we burn it.” Rain said coldly. This was the only thing that would make sense in this area according to him. He would burn Brice in this area too... his generations would hardly stand a chance too.Greg crouched beside a moss covered rock, his eyes scanning the forest floor. “Over there. Look, there a symbols and they seem recent.” He caught everyone’s attention by pointing to a freshly etched circle, stained with blood, the air above it crackling with raw and unstable energy. Rain stepped forward bravely. He extended his
The night air was quiet. Too quietBeta Samuel stood atop the Eastern watch tower of the Blue moon pack, his eyes scanning the forest edge. The moonlight kissed the tops of the trees, casting eerie silver shadows, and yet his wolf stirred restlessly.A breeze swept by carrying a familiar scent of burned fur and blood magic. "They're here." he said upon sensing them. They were expecting them after the talk they had with Greg, Josh and Haylee. These three were familiar with George and Brice. They knew when they attacked, how they attacked and how they moved in groups."Alert the warriors at all borders. None gets in." Beta Samuel commanded and the warriors obeyed immediately. With the information he had and the strategy he had made with Alpha Rain earlier, none of this group was supposed to enter the Blue moon pack. Magic or power.A second later, Haylee appeared at his side, already in a crouch, her sharp sensing confirming their presence. She looked tiny and young but she was a warrio
The night air was thick with silence. The stars above the blue moon pack shimmered faintly but the tension dulled in their land. Inside the infirmary, Rain sat beside Ketra's bed, his elbows resting on his knees, his hands tangled together.A few hours ago he had a talk with her and Kathy about Alpha George and Ketra just said it was okay. He was better dead that complicating their lives. She had then went back to sleep. She was now sleeping fully . The bruises on her skin had started to fade and the doctor had said she would be fine with rest. But Rain's wolf didn't rest. Not when Brice was still breathing.A light knock tapped against the door. Rain didn't look up. "Come in." He said flatly.Josh stepped in, still limping from the earlier blow Rain had landed on him. His side was bandaged and his arm hanged stiffly, but his eyes were stable. He looked at Ketra who was sleeping briefly and looked at Alpha Rain."She's... doing better?" He asked which Rain only gave a nod. Josh hesita
The tree whipped passed Rain in a blur of green and shadow as his paws pounded the earth. Her scent was getting heavier and he chased the closeness to get to the owner. He flew above dry logs in the forest, sprinting with purpose as he went forward. And there she was, bruised, weak and slumped against a boulder. Her clothes were torn. Her lips dry and cracked but she was alive.Beside her stood Josh and Greg. Rain didn't think. He roared so loudly causing birds to scatter from the trees. Rain's wolf launched through the air like lightening, his claws colliding with Greg, sending him crashing into a tree with a sickening thud.He didn't even wait to see if he was breathing as he immediately turned to launch to Josh, fangs bared.Josh stepped back at a lightening speed dodging Rain's attack. He raised his hands, "We didn't hurt her. We..."Too late. Rain struck. A brutal swipe to Josh's chest sent him flying the log just behind him and blood gashed out of him."Rain STOP!" Her voice hit
