Onyx knew bad news was coming.
Don't ask him how, he just knew. Sometimes, it happened, he'll just know that something not to his favor was about to occur. Maybe it's years of honed instincts, an hunch, a feel in the air that set his wolf on edge. Since he was a small boy he has always almost knew where a certain missing object might be, like his toys or pen. But there were also times when the 'hunch' was heavy in the air, where his instincts would shout a warning deep in his bone.
Maybe it's a gift, or all alpha has it but the point is that he knew terrible news was coming and it was getting difficult not to let the mix emotions of dread, anticipation and anxiety to spill over to the pack link.
He's very sure that his brother and one of his shield – the two wolves in the car with him have caught some of his anxiety. But that's to be expected since they were very close to him. His wolf had sense Onyx's tension too and now paced within him like a coiled spring, rigid with tension. Onyx liked that him and his wolf always work together but that working together doesn't apply to their one and only disagreement – claiming Tasha Loupe.
His wolf was very clear on the matter ; Tasha is their mate, so Onyx Luis should claim her, make her theirs and name her Luna of the Dawn Pack. But it's not as simple as that, as much as Onyx might have wished otherwise.
How do you make a submissive wolf an Alpha? Luna? Luna are the Alpha female of the pack. Submissive wolves aren't weak or timid, no. For all their calm behavior, they can be hotheaded, strong and more dominant that any dominant wolf, and in some cases dominant wolf can also be weak, too calm , soft minded and vulnerable despite their dominant gene. But the difference is also in the favor of dominant wolves, their gene made them stronger, more powerful than submissive wolves gene, thereby making dominant wolf high in rank.
Though Tasha was very important to the pack, her submissive nature will make her vulnerable to more dominant wolves. If she was made the pack Luna, she would always face challenges by dominant female in the pack for the position. He could help her in her challenge but in the long run that will cost her the respect of the pack and that is even more dangerous. The pack will lose any respect for her position as Alpha female and to Onyx that is unacceptable.
This left him with only one option to claim his mate– he would have to leave the position of alpha if he wanted to be with his mate. Very easy, only no one in the pack wanted the job of being an alpha. No one wanted the responsibility that came with being alpha. The old Alpha had caused a lot of damage to the pack though he had challenged and killed him, the pack still remembers.
This are no concerns that his wolf is bothered with though, to his wolf it's simply white and black, Tasha is their mate and so Onyx should claim her. Not claiming her has but his wolf in a very bad mood, not that it's new, his wolf almost always has a bad mood, Onyx blame his wolf bad mood on the fact that when his wolf emerge for the first time, it was in pain and rage.
Shifter's always shift when they are in puberty but he had shifted when he was six, his wolf had emerge to protect him. That was a sign of a strong and powerful wolf and Onyx will always be prideful of that but it also hurt to know that he had shifted in such and early age to protect himself, surprisingly his wolf had been one of the calmest and cooperative wolf, calm as Onyx himself but the early shifting had also made his wolf to only look at the world as a dark somber place. Tasha had been the only light to shine in a long time and stir strong emotion in his wolf.
In truth, Tasha had been the only one to stir any strong emotion in Onyx. Sometimes, he could be as cold, hard and unyielding just like his wolf. Oh, he had knew right from wrong and had always try to be a fair alpha. Onyx had always felt something off in his emotions, he felt it like everyone does but bonding had always been difficult with him.
Maybe it's not that of a surprise, Onyx's wolf had emerge as such a young age when wolves only start shifting in their puberty. It's like starting puberty at six. What happened to him had put a scar on his heart and broken something in him.
Tasha always remind him of creatures of grace and and colour, always on the move and she had a way with her, she could easily move and charm people with her sassy attitude. Not that she was little miss angel, hell, he had heard of her famous temper and some say she's just as crazy like her friend Luna Tara. Tara and Onyx were just so different from each other that it was funny.
He could remember the first time he saw her. It had been at the mating ceremony of Tasha's Alpha and Luna. Onyx had been restless all day, knowing that something important was going to happen and it did happen. He had gaze at the redhead and he had and still fell such conflicting emotions, possessiveness, need and joy. Onyx heart had ached from all the emotion. He wanted her so badly, still does. He wanted to touch her, smell her, be around her, protect her, he wants to be all around her. She'd being all he could think a bought, itching constantly to touch, smell or to be just around her. It was pure torture, not being around her.
The main reason he resist claiming her as he wished was that she might find herself being a care taker later, his mother's voice rang faintly in his ear "the healing is working, you shouldn't resist claiming your wolf because of fear"
All the people he knew whose wolf emerge prematurely had one thing in common– they suffer for it later in life, headache, muscle tumor and slowly dying. Most can be healed completely, and his headache and memory laps had stopped completely. His mother said he was strong and he will certainly heal but the fear remained. Fear that later, his problem might later surface and that Tasha would pay for it. The pack healer had warned him that it might happen, it's a possibility and how can he do that to her? To turn her to caretaker ? For her to watch him dying slowly but surely?
Though Onyx didn't feel like he could claim Tasha, he had vowed to watch and protect her from afar. Her wellbeing would always be top priority for him, and that is why he was at this moments, in his car approaching the gates of sliver pack territory, he had to make sure she was alright, to make sure her health was okey and to just see her. Even a glimpse.
Because Onyx's and Sliver pack were allies, they weren't stopped at the gate. The guards simply gave them respective nods as they passed through the gate. The pack was land was disguised an a private forest land. His muscles relaxed slightly as the thought of seeing his wolf sooth his wolf.
Lexer, Onyx's brother drove the car to a set of cabins deep into the sliver pack territory. Once Lexer packed the SUV at the pack's packing lot, Onyx got out. He said facing Lexer "Stay here, Trevor and I won't use more than a minute."
Trevor opened his mouth, probably to protest but I shot him a look. It's not polite nor wise to bring too much dominant wolves before an alpha. Lexer and Trevor were one of the few people that knew that Tasha was his mate and being a man that says little about other man's business, Trevor hasn't said much about it, Trevor won't let it rest, constantly telling Onyx to not let fear decide his claiming Tasha.
With Trevor close at his heels, he went to the entrance of the biggest cabin, Jordan an easygoing, always smiling enforcer guard the door and the fact that Jordan didn't flash his costomary smile made Onyx frowned a little. What bad news awaited Onyx?
"Tara's in the kitchen." Jordan said. Referring to the Alpha of Sliver pack. Onyx entered the cabin, making his was through series of turns before entering the kitchen. There were more wolves in siting on the table – the head enforcer, the beta pair and Alpha and his mate. They didn't look happy to see him, not the enforcers or Beta pair and especially not the Alpha, Tara. Onyx knew then why he had been feeling impending anxiety since morning; they all knew the truth, about Tasha being his mate. He knew this would happen anyway, and not one to play games of words or pretence, he said, facing them. "You knew." "Yes I know." Tara said, her voice sharp. Her mate, Ethan put a hand on her shoulder, clearly to prevent her from flying at Onyx, she was knew for her hot temper and anymore stupid enough to be fooled by her small status paid for it, she's very powerful and scary if she wanted to be, most people in the shifter community stay clear of her. "Is this w
But Ace was right– finding her won't be enough. He had to make right what he made wrong. He would step down from the Alpha position and took Trevor and him mum's advice and claim her. That was it, he was going to do it and if it meant leaving the pack and interwar in the pack because of the power vacuum, so be it. Tasha was his and he would claim her He didn't need to tell her pack all this– they wouldn't believe him anyway. They won't tell him anything if he tell them , they'll just think he's lying just to know her whereabout. Onyx was a powerful Alpha with powerful connections, there's no pack she'd be hiding he wouldn't find her . "Onyx?" He turned, meeting Ethan's eyes. "Let her be." Ethan said. "No going to happen, if you want to start war between our packs, so be it." With that said Onyx marched out of the room. Ethan sighed deeply as the door closed. They had hid Tasha well, all the way to north Carolina. And Ethan had
FIVE MONTHS LATER I won't aim the needle at her eyes, I won't, I won't. But it's sure as hell hard not to send the tattoo needle deep into her fellow tattooist eyes. Doing her best to ignore the annoying woman over her shoulder she put the finishing touches to the red and bright blue butterfly her client requested. Normally, Tasha don't give a fuck about anybody's opinion or snide remake and she sure as hell don't give a shit about Dora's, who the hell name their kids Dora anyway? But Tasha was simply to tired, and don't have the tolerance to deal with Dora right now. In all the close to six months she'd used here she has tried hard not to let the insult her fellow tattooist to bother her, they dish out insult with fake smile. Tasha had sensed the reason they gave her their patronizing smile and insult– she didn't belong. Tasha don't have multiple tattoo, and she's too thin, the only tattoo was the one i
Tasha chuckled without humor, take me back? "An not going back to Sliver Pack, go back and do what? So you can know what I was doing always and keep scaring guys away from me." The very idea of her with some else made Onyx's blood boil, his wolf content and happy before growled at the idea. Onyx's voice was cool and dangerous when he asked. "Is there any guy, Tasha? I hope no because I really hate to kill, don't think I don't know that." The bastard, Tasha knew he meant it, she turned to face him. Noticing how his powerful presence practically dominated her small kitchen, Tasha didn't like it, it made her felt cornered, like a mouse facing a cat. Her gaze flickered to the door but Onyx that was studying her with an intense gaze moved to blocked it. Did he really think she'd run away? Well maybe he should since she was considering it. "Who I date is none of your business." He moved closer a step. "It'll always be my business – you're my business, you're min
"I came here to claim you." Tasha blinked at him. "Claim me? You've got to be fucking kidding." Before Onyx could process what she said she threw the empty glass in her hand at him, Onyx ducked but When he stood tall again, it was to see another stool coming at him. He caught that one, using it as a shield against the next stool. Then she was racing out of the room. Before she could escape from the house, Onyx dashed after her. But she didn’t open the front door. She reached behind the rack of coats in the hallway, pulled out a baseball bat, turned sharply, and swung it at his head. Motherfucker. He jumped backward, barely avoiding it. “Dammit, Tasha! Where had his sweet mate gone? Having a bad temper was one thing, but the female in front of him was a merciless psycho. Proving that, she swung the bat again—this time at his abdomen. Although he jerked away, he only managed to dull the impact of her swing. It still connected har
Oh no. When I come at you, I’ll come at you from the front.”Her sassy response made his smile widen. “That’s my girl.” Sitting on the armchair again, he watched as she struggled against the cuffs. Sighing, he dug out the key from his pocket and unlocked them. At her suspicious look, he shrugged. “I think at this point you’re as tired of all the running around as I am…although it was fun to chase and spank you.” “Had you honestly expected me to be quiet and compliant like a good little girl? I might be submissive, but I’m not a pushover.” “Oh, you’re definitely not a pushover,” he agreed. “I never, for even for even one minute, thought that you were.” She had the strength of will to match any dominant female, to match his. “You can’t ignore me for months and then expect me to welcome you with open arms.” “I didn’t ignore you—” “You didn’t even look at me, let alone speak to me or—” “Because I didn’t trust myself not to pick yo
Reaching the end of Tasha's driveway, Onyx exhaled a heavy breath. Well, things could have gone a lot worse. The bat could have knocked off his head, for instance. That merciless streak had been a shock. Maybe he should have paid more heed to her yard warning sign: TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT, SURVIVORS WILL BE SHOT AGAIN. And then there was the COME BACK WITH A WARRANT doormat. Yep, it was fair to say there had been some hints. The fact that he’d had to place his mate unconscious for his own safety was something he’d never forget. Both Onyx and his wolf loved that spark of fire in her. Despite being a submissive wolf, she hadn’t hesitated in challenging him verbally or physically. That was a good thing—it was important to him that his mate never feared him or his level of dominance. It would cut him open if that were to ever happen. As he walked a short distance and rounded the street to find his motor home, which had been his place of residen
She was going to be late for work again. Groan. On the upside, it was the earliest that she’d ever been late. In pretty much a daze after a crappy night’s sleep, Tasha left the house and began walking briskly down her driveway. And came to an abrupt halt at the sight of something parked at the end of it. It looked like a humungous bus. Coming close, she tried to peer through the blackened windows, but they were too high up. Seeing movement in her peripheral vision, she swerved to see a Mercedes convertible pulling up behind the bus. Then the bane of her existence was waltzing toward her, carrying Starbucks takeout. Again he looked dangerous and indomitable. Again he emanated an unflappable confidence. Again he had her traitorous body heating and tingling, readying itself for him—so not good. She scowled. “You’re still here?” At his presence and scent, her wolf stirred and stretched out inside her, her dark mood lifting. Onyx
