THANE’S POV
As soon as Alpha Crane hit Tyla across her face the first time, I growled deeply in anger as my wolf threatened to come out. I know I rejected her as my mate but for some weird reasons, I still felt possessive over her and so when he hit her the second time and she fell to the ground unconscious with blood slipping out of her mouth, I lost it. “Is she dead??” One of the elders seated in the living room said. “ leave her alone!!!” I yelled in anger as I walked towards her. “Who are you to tell me what to do???” Alpha Crane asked. I almost told everyone that Tyla was my mate but the fact that I rejected her stopped me from doing so and besides, she was only a pack slave and wasn't worth anything. “Take mate out of here.” My wolf said. “I don't fucking want her around me.” I responded to him. “If you leave her here, she will die.” He said again. As much as I didn't want to agree with my wolf, he was right. I looked at Tyla lying on the floor looking so frail and also looking sick like someone who had been starved for the longest of time. “I want her.” I said to Alpha Crane. I knew I was going to regret my decision later on but I needed to do what needed to be done. “What???” “I Said I want her….I want to take her to my pack to serve there as my slave.” I said. “She is already a slave here.” Alpha Crane bit out. “I know that and I am willing to pay any amount of money for her.” I said. “Alpha, what exactly are you doing???” My beta whispered beside me in my ears. “I want her and I am going to take her with me to the pack.” “But you rejected her so why paying any amount for one who was rejected???” “You are crossing the line.” I said as I growled at my beta. “Apologies Alpha.” “Did you say any amount???” Alpha Crane asked. I could see the desperation in his eyes and I knew he loved money so it wasn't going to be difficult bargaining with him. And just like that, I was on my way back to my pack with Tyla after paying a huge amount of money for her. “With all due respect Alpha, she wasn't worth the kind of amount you paid for her a while ago.” my beta said. “I know that and that is why she is going to pay back every penny I paid for her in one way or the other.” I said with a smirk. We got back to the pack and I dropped Tyla off at the pack clinic. “Take care of her and inform me as soon as she regains consciousness.” I said to the head pack nurse. “Yes Alpha.” I went back to my pack house to take care of some documents. A day swiftly turned into days and Tyla still wasn't conscious. I headed back to the clinic to find out what was wrong. “She hasn't shifted yet, Alpha and that is the reason why her recovery is slow.” “How can she not be a shifter!!! She already looks like she should be at the age where she shifts....when I met her the first time, I suspected but I didn't want to believe it was true!!!.....” I said in anger. “I don't know what was done to her in the previous pack she stayed but from the scars all over her body, I can tell she was maltreated and malnourished and that could be the major reason for her delay in shifting Alpha.” Rage was what I felt at that moment as I turned around and walked away. I headed to my study and started breaking everything I saw in sight. “Why are you raging over a mate you rejected??” My wolf asked. “I don't give a shit about her but I hate and do not tolerate Injustice.” I said. Just as I paced back and forth for a few minutes thinking deeply on the next decision to take, I was informed through a mind link that Tyla was awake. “Finally.” My wolf howled in excitement. “She is here as a slave to me and not a mate so get that straight.” I told my wolf. “Ass.” My wolf said as he blocked our mind link. I rolled my eyes as I began clearing my study before going to the clinic but soon after, I was informed that Tyla ran away from the clinic and that too In a terrible condition. “She doesn't f**king learn!!!” I yelled as I raced out of the pack house. I could see traces of blood into the woods and I knew Almost immediately that it was her blood. I wasn't worried about her bleeding but what I was worried about was that the smell of her blood could attract rogues. Her blood looked and smelt very unique and different from any other blood I had ever seen. Just as I suspected and feared, I could smell the presence of a rogue as I went further into the woods and I could also smell Tyla too as the bond between us was still active. I immediately changed into my wolf form as I raced further into the woods and as soon as I saw Tyla, I could tell she was already bitten by the rogue because of how motionless she was on the rogue. In rage, I removed the head of the wolf and ripped it's heart out as blood splattered everywhere. I looked back at Tyla and could see the shock written on her face after witnessing what I did and in a split second, she passed out cold. As soon as I could, I drained out the rogue venom from her body before it could get to her heart and I carried her bridal style. There was something unique about Tyla and I needed to find out what it was. “Mine.” I growled possessively. “Yours??? You rejected her Thane!!” My wolf said. “I, Alpha Thane of the Tiger wood blood pack, take back my rejection.” As soon as I took back my rejection, I could hear cracking sounds from Tyla. "What's going on???" I asked my wolf. "Mate is shifting for the first time!!!!"TYLA'S POVI didn't need a seer to tell me that staying at this strange pack depended solely on smartness and survival skills and I planned on staying for the time being and so I found myself at the place where I was initially assigned a duty, the kitchen.I wiped my hands on the apron and stepped back from the sink. It felt strange being back in a pack’s kitchen, surrounded by the smells of onions, herbs, and burnt toast. The laughter and clatter of pans from the other cooks filled the room, but none of it truly reached me…It was only noise, to cover the chaos in my head. The words of the seer still echoed in my mind. The bond... not broken... the full moon...and the safety of my unborn pup.I couldn’t think about it now and I couldn’t allow myself to drown in it again and so I focused on the task in front of me. I stirred the stew on the stove and glanced over my shoulder at the group of women gossiping near the pantry."...they say he hasn’t smiled since she died." one of them w
THANE'S POV I honestly didn't have the time to think through my decision before implementing it.I just wanted to do everything within my power to get my mate back and although I know it would be difficult because at that point, I had no idea if Tyla would want to even accept me back but it was worth trying. The next person I knew I needed to speak to was my mother.I stood outside my mother’s chamber, the heavy oak door closed between us like a barrier forged from my own guilt. It had been days since she woke from that induced sleep or should I call it coma…days since I made that decision…the one that cost me Tyla.I clenched my fists as I took a sharp deep breath. I had to face her.I knocked lightly."Enter." She said with her voice calm but stern.I stepped inside. The room still smelled like the herbs the healer used to treat her, but it was brighter now. She sat by the window, sunlight casting lines across her aging yet regal face. Her eyes lifted to meet mine."Mother." I
TYLA'S POV After leaving the prison cell, I couldn’t stop thinking about the seer’s words. His voice echoed in my mind like a haunting lullaby I couldn’t silence."Your child is not dead, Tyla…Merely asleep."How could that be? I had heard it from the healer herself. I had felt the cold void in my womb but something inside me, something small and desperate clung to the possibility that he was right and that my baby still breathed within me, waiting for something… someone.I paced back and forth in my room, trying to make sense of it all. My thoughts tangled like vines in the forest. Thane’s rejection, the pain of the loss, the fear of the unknown and now, this spark of hope from a man locked away and forgotten.A soft knock at the door interrupted the storm in my head."Tyla?" Maren’s voice came through the wooden door. "Can I come in?"I hesitated before answering. "Yes."She stepped in, her wild curls tied back today, and her green eyes soft with concern."You’ve been quiet s
BRIDGET'S POV As Emmy held my arm and pulled me out of Thane's study, I got more angry."You should have stayed out of it, Emmy!" I hissed as he continued pulling me out of Thane’s study, his grip firm but not painful. Still, it made my skin crawl."You were going to get yourself killed in there!" Emmy growled, slamming the door behind us."So what?! At least I wouldn’t be dragged around like some helpless fool! You always think you can swoop in and fix everything like some noble savior….Newsflash, Emmy, I don't need saving!"He turned to face me, eyes blazing. Emmy was beginning to piss me off and I had to do something about it."You don't need saving? Bridget, you're on the edge of a cliff and you're too damn blind to see it! Thane’s this close to snapping and you're poking him like he’s a sleeping bear…What the hell were you thinking?!""I was thinking that someone needed to remind him who he is! That this pack isn't about him and his sob stories!""You have done enough," he sa
THANE'S POV Ever since my mother awoke from the antidote's effects, she hadn't spoken much to me. Her silence carried weight…a sharp, cold disapproval that pierced deeper than any words could. Every time she looked at me, I could see it in her eye disappointment, Disgust and perhaps most painful of all, heartbreak.I sat in my study, my hands clenched into fists on the table. The room was quiet except for the faint rustling of paper and the murmurs outside. The news had spread throughout the pack…They all knew. They knew I had rejected Tyla. They knew she had been pregnant. They knew she'd vanished, possibly hurt or worse.I could feel their eyes on me when I walked through the pack lands. Eyes that once looked to me with pride and loyalty now brimmed with judgment and suspicion. Whispers followed me like shadows."The Alpha rejected his pregnant mate.""Can you imagine the disgrace?""How could he do that to her?"I didn’t blame them as it was all my fault and I deserved whate
TYLA'S POV "There’s something... someone... you need to see.”I tried to find out more information of who it was that wanted to see me but all I got was silence. The silence in the corridor was thick as the guard led me through dimly lit stone hallways. My fingers were numb, and though my feet moved, my thoughts remain frozen on the words the Beta had spoken: "There’s someone you need to see."The guard didn’t say a word as we walked away. I tried asking him questions again but he remained tight-lipped, only gesturing with his chin for me to follow.Eventually, we reached a thick iron door guarded by two men. One of them gave me a curious look before unlocking the door. The hinges groaned as it opened, revealing a small cell lit by a single torch mounted on the wall.Inside sat a man…old, with a scruffy gray beard and deep lines etched into his dark skin. His eyes, however, were anything but old. They sparkled like twin moons, alive and knowing. He looked up the moment I steppe
