002 "Can We Get Married now?"

Becky's POV

“Hey baby” I rushed to Ephraim and gave him a hug. He hummed before pulling me from himself and capturing my lips with his.

I moaned in his mouth, he is always so good at this, and I've missed him so much that I got lost in his warmth.

We were at the club and Ephraim, as always, was looking good with his hair rough and curly that my fingers found their way to it and raked it. He looked refreshed and energized. When I finally broke the kiss, I asked,

“You're looking good. Did you go home to freshen up?” I asked him as we both made our way to a table. His friends were all seated around the table, they all had their girls with them.

Ephraim ordered drinks for us all before asking,

“What's the old man saying? He wants to give you to someone else?”

I nodded as I picked up a bottle of liquor and poured him a drink. By the way, his hand tightened around my waist, I could tell he was angry with my reply, but he was trying to not show it.

“Don't worry, I've told him that it would never happen. I am yours forever” I reassured him.

“I pray it sinks deep into your old man's head this time, else I'll be forced to take drastic steps” he replied before downing a glass of alcohol

“What drastic step?” I asked with a smile. Ephraim can be so sweet when he is serious. He must be thinking of marrying me already, or maybe eloping with me.

“Don't worry about that” he replied as he dropped the glass only to pick up the bottle of alcohol. I watched how he began to down the alcohol.

“I think you should let him know that you aren't leaving her for any man” one of his friends spoke, and I chipped in my words too,

“Yes, I mean if you let Father know you are planning a marriage, he would succumb and not bother searching for someone for me. I also told Father that I'm your fiancé already”

“Hm, that's good,” he replied. I wanted him to say some more, but he didn't.

“So… Can we get married now? You know, when we're finally married, my dad won't argue about marriage and all. He would accept whoever I bring” I asked, looking at him keenly.

“Hm,” he replied again, making me roll my eyes.

The reason Father was so adamant in making sure I married someone else was because of this nonchalant attitude of Ephraim. What's with the humming? I was discussing something serious here.

“Ephraim, when are we getting married?” I decided to ask him without passing through the covers. He handed over a glass of alcohol to me and asked me to drink up. I waited for him to respond first, so he sighed,

“When I'm ready. I'm not ready now, babe” he took his hand off my waist and sighed, “I'm not yet ready”

“When will you be ready?” I asked him, making sure the smile remained on my face.

“When I'm ready, I'll let you know” he replied then kissed the nape of my neck.

I just didn't know what to say. He said the same thing last year and the same thing in the last two years. Money isn't the issue, Ephraim has a lot of investments everywhere, so much cannot be the problem. If he doesn't want to be a father yet, we could also work it out.

“Ephraim, what if Father insists I marry the gardener, since you aren't saying anything about marriage yet?”

“Then you tell him that You are mine!”

He moved to kiss my lower lip as he pulled me closer to himself. I wrapped my hands around his neck and reciprocated the kiss.

“Let's go somewhere else,” he said, and didn't let me respond before pulling me out of the club.

*****

I woke up only to find the room empty. Ephraim must have left to work already. When I checked the time, it was already 10 am, I sighed before making my way to the bathroom.

My phone began to ring, so I came out. It was an unknown number. I contemplated whether to pick up or not, as I didn't want to hear any word from any of my employees. I know I have a meeting this morning, there is no way I can meet up with it, but I'll try.

I let the call slide before making my way to the bathroom. I took my bath, smiling at the hickey Ephraim left all over my body. My phone kept ringing, and I could hear it from the bathroom, but I didn't bother going to pick up. I am the boss, no one pressures me.

When I came out of the bathroom, I finally went to answer the call since they didn't want to stop

"What!” I snapped in anger without waiting for the person to speak first.

“Miss Becky, this is your father's driver, Clinton”

“Hm, tell my father I'll be in the office soon, he doesn't have to worry” I spoke up immediately. I know my father wouldn't want to hear that, but that's what I can give for now.

Why can't they do things without me over there? And he should know that I am still angry at him for what he did. Giving me a gardener to get married to. What rubbish!

“That isn't why I called, ma'am. Your father—”

“Just tell him I'll be there soon. Can't he give someone a break?” I spat.

“Ma'am Becky, your father was involved in an accident and has been taken to the hospital. That's why—”

“Wh… what…what do you mean…?” I stuttered when I heard his words.

“It happened early this morning, and I've been trying to reach out to you but couldn't”

“Which hospital?” I asked as I tried wearing my clothes. My eyes rolled down tears and my throat tightened. Nothing must happen to my father.

I heard someone called Clinton in the background and his next words caused me to freeze

“I'm sorry, but Mr. Smith couldn't make it”
