THIRTY NINE

The sound of shoe soles against the floor rang loudly in the middle of the deserted hallway. At the far end of the room was a middle-aged man sitting quietly playing with his lunch spoon to draw a clock on the wall of his detention room.

"Austin," muttered the man quietly as he turned quickly towards the source of the voice. Austin, who saw Jesse McLean staring at him, returned the grin with a sly smile clearly on his face.

"You're getting more and more familiar with the sound of my footsteps. Boss. Do you like living here?” asked Austin scornfully.

Jesse McLean tried to ignore the scornful stares and he went back to drawing the clock on the wall of the prison he's been in for the past two years or so. But even so, he was quite happy living in there, because his life felt much calmer while he was in prison. But sometimes he really misses his freedom which is actually just a pseudo freedom. He missed his cunning uncle, and he missed his daughter who was in a coma.
