Chapter 12Matteo's POV My lips parted as she kept muttering the name over and over again. "Is that your uncle?" I asked softly and she snapped her lips shut and made an attempt to sit up but it failed as she winced. "Are you alright?" I stood up from the edge of the bed and sat beside her. Her body tensed then relaxed as she breathed evenly again. Her bright eyes were squinted as she kept her lips pursed. "Thank God, she's getting better. I want to know who will be in charge of her medications." Doctor Luca asked and I raised my hand with enthusiasm then dropped it when I realized that I was being too obvious. "I don't want her to waste your time and effort and someone needs to ensure that she's back on her feet to prepare breakfast tomorrow, so I'll do it." I offered. Ginevra sneered, then said, "Another day of lazing around." I gave her a look that reminded her that I was Capo which shut her mouth. She hadn't seen me torturing people before or dishing out punishments and the
Chapter 13Aurora's POV I slowly got up from the bed and drew away the covers, reducing the level of the air conditioner with the remote I found on the bed stand. My mind flashed back to my collapse at the pool and I wondered why I fainted. The last time I swam, I had the same experience but it wasn't this severe. All the same I was happy that Angelo was there to help me, and then Matteo, he held onto me like I was a treasure about to be lost. The single act tore a chunk off the walls I'd surrounded myself with. But that wasn't what I wanted, I needed to be done with my revenge and move on with my life. I scanned the room slowly, then realized it wasn't mine. I'd noticed that I wasn't in my room when I woke up but I blamed it on my collapses, but now that I felt better, the ambience was quite different and the size was bigger than mine. My eyes were still scrutinising the room when the door swung open, causing me to jolt in surprise. Matteo closed the door as he got in and stared
Chapter 14Aurora's POV I couldn't deny that Matteo's rebuff hurt me more than a dagger thrust into my heart. Maybe I was hoping for too much and I failed to realise that nothing romantic could ever happen between us, not even the dinner he asked for. My mind flashed back to the sparring match and wondered why he wanted to fight with his brother. I didn't see Angelo as a violent person, but then, he was a descendant and the second son of Aldo Moretti. Violence ran through his veins. Sparring matches weren't new to me since we had lots of them where I came from, but I wanted to know how it went so I headed for the kitchen where I'd find Ilaria. I worried about how Matteo would fight with his injured hands, then I shook off the feeling of worry. It wasn't my business. "Are you busy?" I asked, putting on my apron. Matteo asked me not to cook but I wasn't sure I could obey his order and stay away from the kitchen when I wasn't lying on a hospital bed. She jolted at my voice and near
Losing control Matteo's POV There was only one person who had that voice but I doubted she was the one. Maybe I'd thought about her too much and it made me hallucinate about her presence. The overwhelming rush of Adrenaline which surged through my veins came to a halt, and then I stared at my brother who wore a wary expression mixed with disappointment and glints of anger. I gasped, feeling hurt and angry at myself. How could I have thought of hitting my younger brother so hard? He was the only family I had. The arena which was calm because of the scream went agog with loud whispers and soon they turned into angry rants as a woman tried to force her way through. I squinted my eyes to be sure that I wasn't hallucinating again but it was her, Aurora, forcing her way through the crowd like an angry lioness. Her resilience marveled me even though I was pissed that she went against my order. I motioned for the referee to come closer and he bowed his head so I could tell him what to
Chapter 16Matteo's POV My eyes almost burned with tears when I got into the room he was kept in and I saw his face scrunched in pain as they tried to relocate his arm to its position. I did that!! And I'd have done more if Aurora didn't stop me. "You'll be fine, I promise." I said to Angelo who ignored me and shut his eyes. "You were going overboard, brother. That wasn't supposed to be a death match, you just wanted us to spar like the old times and everyone goes home. I can never trust you again," He lashed out and panted. "I promise I'll tell you what happened, but focus on recovering for now." I called Doctor Luca aside who is in charge of the medical team. "There's no other real damage apart from the dislocation, right?" He shook his head, "There isn't. I only sent one of my team members to call you because your brother was tense and he said that we shouldn't commence treatment if you aren't around." My lips stretched into a tired smile. Even with his outburst, he still w
Chapter 17Aurora's POV I stretched my arms from the restless sleep I had and jumped out of the bed. My mind couldn't accept to rest after everything that happened last night so I stood up and brushed my teeth. Since I left my uncle's house, I hadn't done any exercise or even jogged in the morning which was unlike me. I tossed on a black crop top and a matching pair of joggers then packed my messy hair into a ponytail. As I left my room, I heard some voices, from the wing opposite the direction of my room which belonged to Angelo. It wasn't loud enough to warrant attention, but as usual, I let curiosity take the lead. When the door creaked open, I ran towards the hallway quickly and headed for the gate. Matteo's house arrest could kiss my jogging ass. "Where are you going?" I heard when I got to the gate and turned around to stare at the person who caused me to halt my steps. Matteo stood by the window with a questioning look and a running outfit as well. It was still early and
Chapter 18Aurora's POV "I don't think I want to talk about it. This isn't the appropriate time for this conversation," He said coolly and I nodded. "Maybe we should go home then, I have to make breakfast and everyone should be hungry by now." I said and resumed jogging, leaving him to ponder on my coldness. Due to his long legs, he was able to catch up with me but I wasn't ready for any strained discussion. "I don't want to believe that you are angry because I didn't say anything to you." He insinuated. A huff escaped my lips and then I halted. "We still have the boss-employee relationship, right?" "Yes, why do you ask?" His eyes were squinted in confusion. "Because I don't want you to accompany me during my workout times. I didn't sell my rights to you when I started working here and I should have my privacy." I didn't give him a chance to respond as I took to my heels. My pace didn't reduce till I got to the gate and waited for the guard to open up for me. By the ti
Chapter 19Aurora's POV I stood in front of my vanity table with a tired look on my face. What did Matteo really want? Angelo's words flashed in my mind again. Somehow, he was trying to tell me about Matteo. He didn't know of my plans so anything he said was a clue to breaking him and getting my revenge. It was already getting late. The party was slated for 7pm and having lived with the brother-in-law to a late Capo, I knew how much they loved punctuality. It would have been fun messing with him and coming out later on since I wasn't really interested in going but I still buzzed out. Matteo stood with his back facing me. His eyes were on his wrist watch and I held back a snort. "I'm ready," I announced as he turned back and gazed at me with a gentle look. He looked magnificent in his black tuxedo and his hair that was combed in a slick comb-over. He opened his mouth to make a comment but snapped it shut. I didn't need his reply because I could see how his eyes nearly undressed
