Everyone else took it as they got, no one bothered to ask too many questions, but old Bernard couldn’t shake off the feeling that pegged at him.

In a short while, Bernard returned with a mug containing the prepared tea. The steam rose faintly from the mug, carrying with it the earthy scent of the precious medicine. His footsteps were gentle as he avoided any mistakes.

When he entered, he found Stephanie alone, sitting on the chair beside Jace’s bed. Gabriel had stepped out for a moment to send a message to the pack. Stephanie rose quickly when she saw Bernard with the mug.

“Is that the medicine?” she asked, her voice laced with both hope and anxiety.

Bernard gave a simple nod. “Yes.”

He moved closer and carefully set the mug on the small table beside Jace. Then he turned to her. “Come, help me.”

Stephanie didn’t hesitate. She stepped forward, steadying her hands as Bernard handed over the mug to her. Then he leaned down and slid one arm beneath Jace’s shoulders, lifting him gently des

Back in Jace’s base, the silence felt heavy. Stephanie had left a while ago, Gabriel hadn’t returned since he stormed out, and Bernard was left alone to pace the length of the small room, anxiety carving deep lines into his face. Every sound, movement of the door, or a little squeak seemed like a warning, every rush of wind against the windows, a reminder that nothing and no one could be trusted.A loud knock broke through the peace.Bernard turned towards the door but stopped at the sound of Marla's voice."I'll get it!" Marla, who had been tidying up near the kitchen, said. She walked carefully as she approached the door, weary of any danger. With one hand on the doorknob, she hesitated as her instincts screamed that whoever stood on the other side would bring trouble. She drew in a breath and pulled open the door. Her countenance dropped instantly at the face that stared back at her.“Linda,” She called in a voice that carried both surprise and irritation. “What do you want?”Lin

She kept track of her as she walked quickly down the street. Her eyes were glued to the small monitor in her hand. The blinking dot was getting closer, signaling that she was almost at her target. Her lips curved into a thin smile, finally, it was time to get her revenge on Clara.Melinda adjusted the strap of her handbag and pushed open the glass door of a bustling restaurant. The air was heavy with the smell of roasted meat, fried onions, and freshly baked bread. She lingered by the door for a moment, scanning the room as though searching for someone. Her gaze moved across the faces until it landed on a figure seated at the far corner by the window, and a satisfied smile crept onto her face.Melinda’s heels clicked against the tiled floor as she strolled across the restaurant, not hesitating for even a second. She reached the table and, without waiting for permission, pulled out a chair and sat down.“Mind if I join you?” she asked casually.Linda barely lifted her eyes from her ph

She couldn’t shake off the feeling, not even when she tried to go to bed. One thing was certain, she could feel it.She tossed and turned beneath her blanket, her restless body symbolised the storm that raged inside her chest. The air felt heavy, almost suffocating, as if something dark and unseen pressed against her thoughts. Every time she closed her eyes, an image of Jace appeared, he had blood all over him and looked to be in so much pain. His expression was stuck between anger and despair. She gripped her pillow, pulling it close, but the hollow emptiness inside her didn’t fade. The urge came suddenly, like a whisper in the dark, "go to him."Her heartbeat quickened at the thought. It felt stronger than ever before, tugging at her throughout the night. Yet just as quickly, she shook her head and pushed the thought away.“No,” she muttered to herself. “He wouldn’t even want to see me, not now, not after everything.”The words were shaky and unconvincing. Deep down, she knew Jace

She had to make a choice. She had stared at him longer than she should have, hoping, praying that somehow the moment would wipe away forever, and the weight of her possible decision wouldn’t crush her. But choices must be made, and when she made hers, it sat heavy in her chest, suffocating her even as she walked away. She walked quickly and hung her head low as she made her way down the narrow street. She said nothing and barely looked up for any reason. She wanted nothing more than to get out of there, to put as much distance as she could between herself and Blackwood. As she moved through a dark path, she expected to be stopped by the shady-looking men at the corners, but to her surprise, they fled before she reached them.It looked as though one stopped her because of what she had done earlier in the alley, but as she walked, she came across different situations that made her believe that it wasn't fear that kept the people back.Mothers pulled their children to the side when they

She looked up at him with swollen eyes. She refused to believe a single word he had spoken, yet the tears gathered stubbornly, threatening to betray her. She forced them back down, she couldn’t cry, not here, not in front of him.Shaking her head, Stephanie pushed herself to her feet. Her voice cracked with determination. “I’m not playing games with you. I need that medicine, and I won’t mind tearing it from your cold hands if I have to.”Blackwood smiled faintly, as though her anger amused him rather than threatened him. “I love the woman you’ve grown into,” he said softly. “You’re just like your mother, strong, determined, fearless.”Stephanie said nothing, her jaw locked, and her fists clenched at her sides.“But sadly,” Blackwood added with a tilt of his head, “those same qualities were what took her life, a shame if they take yours as well.”The words cut into her, but she didn’t flinch. Instead, she slid her foot back, dropping into a stance that carried every ounce of defiance
