Chapter 2

Penulis: Bagel
Back in my room, I saw the tips of my heels were soaked in blood. The shoes had pinched my feet so badly they were throbbing in pain.

I couldn't lie to myself anymore. These supposedly custom-made heels, the couture gown, the wedding shoes he had rushed over, had all been made in Daisy's size.

Wincing, I pulled off the shoes that had bruised the tops of my feet. Droplets of blood scattered like broken rubies.

The wedding gown was so tight it constricted my ribs, making it hard to breathe. I grabbed the scissors from the desk and, cut by cut, shredded the pristine white fabric to ribbons.

The year I turned eighteen, the Lycan King invaded my dreams, telling me I was his destined mate, his future Luna. He promised he would return in four years to take me away.

Legend says Lycans are brutal and bloodthirsty, their possessiveness absolute. Not a single woman taken by them has ever returned.

That was why, when the three brothers were being hunted by their enemies, my father had used his own body to shield them from a fatal bullet without a moment's hesitation.

Before he drew his last breath, my father entrusted me to these three brothers from his allied family, begging them to protect me from my monstrous fate.

But my father misjudged them. In this world, he was the only one who would have protected me without reservation.

I stared out the window at the flashing lightning, and happy memories played through my mind like a movie.

Liam, the cold and distant heir who only ever smiled at me, gently placing a diamond tiara on my head. Noah, despite his reckless temper, fighting off a crowd just to keep me safe. Caleb softly hooking his pinky finger with mine, refusing to let go.

Back then, their eyes were full of love for me, as if they would be devoted to me forever. I truly believed they would cherish me like that for the rest of my life.

A muffled knock at the door was lost in a sudden clap of thunder, and I flinched, curling into myself.

"Evie? Are you in there?" The familiar low voice pierced the door, and a tide of grief washed over me.

Barefoot, I ran to the door and threw myself into Liam's arms.

Breathing in the familiar scent of cigar and woodsmoke on his coat, my heart, which had been hammering against my ribs, finally began to settle.

"Liam, it's storming. Please, will you stay with me tonight?"

Liam looked down at my reddened eyes and gently stroked my hair. "Shhh, don't be afraid."

For a dizzying moment, it felt like we were back in the days when he still cherished me.

I had always been afraid of storms. Thunder left me with a racing heart and sleepless nights.

Once, the constant thunder terrified me so much I developed a high fever and fainted, nearly dying from heart failure.

Liam had been so full of regret, his eyes red-rimmed as he knelt by my bed. He swore he would never let me endure another stormy night alone.

From that day on, whenever it stormed, he would stay by my bedside without fail, telling me stories in his low, husky voice until I fell asleep.

The night was thick and dark. Suddenly, the low rumble of an engine sounded from the driveway, mingling with the bone-chilling howls of wolves in the distant forest.

I clamped my hands over my ears and shrank deeper into Liam's embrace.

"Liam, the Lycan King's convoy is here. Don't leave me."

The words had barely left my lips when the warmth in Liam's eyes froze over.

He pushed me away firmly, his expression turning cold.

"Noah was right. You just won't quit, will you? Still trying to force my hand with this nonsense about a monster."

"I told you, Daisy needs me right now. I don't have time for your games."

He said the words so casually. I stood frozen, my throat tight, a chill spreading through my chest.

I managed a weak smile, watching as the flashes of lightning illuminated Liam's face.

For the first time, I felt like I didn't know him at all.

Perhaps my expression was too pitiful, because his lips parted, and he looked as if he might reach for me.

But a frantic scrambling of footsteps echoed from the end of the hall, and Noah, drenched and panicked, burst into the room.

"Liam, Daisy's blood failure is acting up again! It's much worse than before."

"The storm has washed out the mountain roads. The medical team can't get through. Right now, only Evie's blood will work. Did you get it?"

Only then did I see it: the medical blood bag in Liam's hand, its thick needle glinting coldly in the light.

The truth jolted me awake. He hadn't come because he was worried about me. He had come to use me, a walking blood bank, to save that woman's life.

Tears blurred my vision. I tried to smile, feeling as if they were playing some kind of colossal joke on me. "Liam, I was born with severe anemia. If you take a full bag of blood, I'll die."

"So you're really going to bleed me dry to save her?"

Without a word, I reached up and pulled back the sleeve of my gown. From my wrist to the crook of my elbow, my skin was a horrifying tapestry of needle marks left over from the blood draws. Some were still circled by deep purple bruises, while others were just beginning to scab over.Dark purple bruises circled my wrists where Noah had pinned my arms back and shoved me to the floor."What gives you the right to ask for my forgiveness?"My voice was calm, but it froze the air in its tracks. Not a single one of them dared to look directly at my arm.I let out a cold laugh, watching the three of them, so guilty they seemed ready to sink through the marble floor.A light breeze swept through the greenhouse, stirring my hair.I grabbed Caleb's chin, forcing him to meet my eyes. From my pocket, I pulled out a scorched, twisted piece of glass, unrecognizable as the amulet my father had left me."When you threw the amulet my father left me into the fireplace, then tossed the shards out the win

A fiery blush spread to the tips of my ears, and I slipped my hand out of Ezekiel's broad palm."But the rumors say the Lycan King has taken countless mates over his long life."Ezekiel's eyes widened in panic. He raised three fingers to the statue of the Moon Goddess, his voice so earnest it was nearly a prayer."Those are just rumors, fabricated by outsiders who fear our kind.""My body, my heart. They have belonged only to you, from the very beginning."I pursed my lips, a wave of sorrow washing over my chest.Back then, to save me from a marriage to a so-called monster, my father took in Liam and his brothers, placing them by my side as potential mates. He could have lived longer. He could have personally walked me down the aisle.Tears fell one by one onto the back of Ezekiel's hand. His expression tightened, and he read my sorrow almost instantly."Actually, that day, your father came to find me of his own accord." Ezekiel looked down, his fingertips gently wiping the corners of

It wasn't until the sky began to pale to a sickly gray that faint, timid footsteps finally sounded from the hallway.Noah's head snapped up, but his last shred of hope died instantly."What are you doing here?"Her eyes red-rimmed, Daisy leaned weakly against the doorframe, pressing a hand to her forehead as she complained of dizziness. But this time, none of them spared her a glance.Liam's voice was cold as iron, striking her from across the room."From now on, whatever happens to you has nothing to do with us.""Evangeline is our fiancée. If you keep throwing yourself at us, you'll give her the wrong idea."Daisy froze, the fragile mask on her face cracking. The next second, she shrieked like a cat whose tail had been stepped on."You took me in off the street! You have a responsibility to take care of me for the rest of my life!""Besides, Evangeline was taken by those monsters last night! She's probably dead by now!"Meanwhile, the moonlit carriage tore through the clouds and mist

The sports car tore through the night. Liam gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white. He spent the entire drive rehearsing how to apologize to Evangeline. He was undoubtedly the one who had hurt her the most. He had sworn to marry her, to protect her for the rest of her life, and had personally ordered a million-dollar couture gown for her. Yet, the moment Daisy claimed to be dizzy, he had abandoned Evangeline in the rain without a second thought. In the passenger seat, Noah picked at his knuckles, the ghost of the kite string's texture still rough against his fingertips. He didn't know what to say when he saw Evangeline. He was the one who had pinned her down so her blood could be drained. He had no right to even look her in the eye.In the backseat, Caleb urged Liam to drive faster, wishing he could sprout wings and fly to Evangeline to apologize in person.Hadn't she always wanted a place to belong? If Liam and Noah refused to marry her, he would do it.He was willing

Liam thought he heard the roar of the wind and the howling of wolves, but by the time he looked up, the night sky was empty save for the solitary blood moon. The carriage that had been hovering outside the balcony flashed through his mind, and he shook his head with a cold scoff. The lengths she would go to, orchestrating this ridiculous charade just to manipulate us. It was exhausting. He looked down, continuing to mix Daisy's medication as his gaze lingered on the clear liquid.Unbidden, a memory surfaced in his mind of the night two years ago when he took Evangeline to a high-society gala in Europe.Encouraged by the three brothers, Evangeline had tried on a custom white wedding gown by a top-tier designer. The moment she stepped out of the fitting room in the pearl-encrusted couture gown, the entire boutique fell silent. She was as breathtaking as a goddess descending to the mortal realm. She lowered her eyes shyly, a faint blush creeping up the tips of her pale ears. The thought o

Hearing the deafening wolf howls from the balcony, Liam froze. Just as he was about to stride out and investigate, Daisy clung to his waist and pressed a hand to her temple, feigning pain.He stroked her face gently, urging Noah to hurry and take her back to the medical room.As Caleb passed by me, his gaze swept over the moonlit carriage, which radiated an eerie glow outside the window. A smirk twisted his lips. "Evangeline, I never thought you'd go to such lengths just to get our attention.""Hiring actors, chartering a helicopter... This whole show must have cost a fortune, huh?"He paused, looking at me with a hint of pity in his eyes. "But to us, you aren't worth a single hair on Daisy's head."Noah turned back to glare at me, his eyes filled with disgust. "Enough with the cheap tricks. Until Daisy recovers, we don't have time to entertain your pathetic little games."The blood in my veins turned to ice. My heart felt as if it had been shattered by a heavy blow, splintering into a
