Chapter 68

Lily's Pov

“What’s wrong, Richard?” I asked, watching as he sat on the edge of the bed beside me, his shoulders tense and his eyes distant.

He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “I got a call from one of the executives. Mark tendered his resignation letter today.”

“He resigned?” The words escaped me sharper than I meant, and my reaction must have shown on my face because Richard gave me a long, unreadable look.

“Yes. So I was told,” he said, his voice low, almost flat.

“But why would he do that?” I asked, still struggling to process it. “He’s been working with you for over three years. He was committed. Why would he suddenly resign?”

Richard shrugged. “It is a shame, though. He was dedicated to his work. But if you ask me…” He paused, looking straight ahead. “I guess he couldn’t stand the fact that he lost you.”

I shifted uncomfortably under the blanket. Mark and I had a past, yes—but that was all it was: the past.

“You know,” Richard continued, “he was one of my most

  • Abandoned by my ex, I accept his boss proposal    Fighting Back

Chapter 67Lily's PovIt has been over two weeks since I had that intense conversation with Richard about the nasty rumors flying around — the whispers that I slept my way to a promotion. At first, it felt like the gossip might never end, like it had latched onto my name like a shadow. But strangely, it began to quiet down. Fewer side glances in the hallway, fewer fake smiles. Maybe people got bored, or maybe they realized I wasn’t going to break.I followed Richard’s advice: act like the gossip never existed. Smile, work hard, show up stronger every day. It wasn’t always easy, but it worked. Most days.Mia and I hadn’t seen each other in a while either. Life got busy — her fashion career was booming and I was constantly caught between reports, team reviews, and high-profile audits. We kept in touch over the phone though, and I had cleared my weekend just to catch up with her. She was my safe space — one of the few people who knew me before all of this... before him.Today felt differ

  • Abandoned by my ex, I accept his boss proposal    The Mistake I Wish I Never Made

Chapter 66.Mark's PovIt was a deep torture for me, seeing Lily throughout the week at work. Every single day felt like dragging my soul through glass. I told myself I’d be fine — that it didn’t matter. I thought that as long as we weren’t in the same department, I could handle it. But I lied to myself. I grossly underestimated what it meant to watch the woman I once had — the woman I lost — living happily without me. It started small. A glance in the hallway. A brush past each other near the elevator. Then came the full-blown sightings — her laughter echoing through the cafeteria, her soft voice floating into conference rooms, her presence filling any space she walked into. Lily had always been beautiful, but now she was something else entirely. She glowed.I have tried countless times to get her back into my life but she was done. Done with me she would always say to me. And lately, she wasn’t alone.Richard was always nearby. His hand resting on the small of her back, the way he

Chapter 65Lily's povI stood up from the bed, the cool air of the room brushing against my skin as I wrapped my robe tighter around myself. The house was quiet—too quiet. I walked down the his studyl slowly, heart racing, feet soft against the polished wooden floor. The glow from Richard’s study door was still on. I paused in front of it, unsure whether to knock. This wasn’t the first time the thought had crossed my mind.My fingers hovered just inches from the door when it suddenly creaked open.Richard stood there, his tall frame blocking most of the light behind him. “Is everything alright, Lily?” he asked softly, his voice low and warm, but serious. “You look disturbed. And don’t lie to me. I noticed it while we were eating. I just didn’t want to push you. I wanted you to want to tell me.”That was the thing about Richard. He always saw more than what I said or did.“Truth be told, I am disturbed,” I admitted, my eyes dropping to the floor. He reached out, gently taking my hand

Chapter 63 Lily’s PovLost in my thoughts, I stared blankly at the screen in front of me. The spreadsheet was open, but I hadn't touched it in the last fifteen minutes. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, motionless. I could hear faint voices from down the hallway, muffled by the thick office walls. Whether it was the sound of footsteps or passing chatter, everything felt distant. Fuzzy. Like I was watching the day go by from behind a foggy glass.A soft knock on the door pulled me back to the present.“Yes?” I said quickly, straightening up in my chair and adjusting my blazer. My voice cracked slightly, so I cleared my throat. The door creaked open.“Good afternoon, ma’am,” Sandra said, stepping in with a gentle smile. She held a thin folder against her chest. “There’s a document that needs your attention before it can go out for delivery.”“Alright, Sandra. I’ll go through it later,” I replied, forcing a calm tone.“Okay, ma’am.” She walked over and set the folder neatly on the c

Chapter 62 Samantha's PovThum!Thum!!Thum!!!That was the sound of my heart as I paced around my living room, each beat louder than the last, echoing against the silence like drums of war. My bare feet made soft pats against the cold marble tiles, but I didn’t notice. I couldn’t feel anything—only the boiling rage and confusion that twisted in my chest like a storm without warning.“This wasn’t how it was supposed to end…” I whispered to myself, stopping in the middle of the room, wrapping my arms around my body like it would hold me together. “No. No, no, no. This can’t go on.”I shook my head violently, strands of my dark hair falling into my eyes, but I didn’t care. I could still see him—his face. Richard. His smile. His touch. The way he used to look at me like I was his whole world. I used to be his world. So how the hell did I end up here?“How dare he?” I muttered under my breath. “How dare he try to replace me?”I started pacing again, the anger returning like a wave crashi
