Chapter 15

Mark's pov

Seeing Lilly with Richard constantly had triggered something in me that I hadn’t expected. Was it jealousy? Or love? The answer remained unclear, but one thing was for sure—I couldn’t stand the sight of her with him. From the moment she had accepted Richard’s job offer, I had tried everything to stop her, but nothing worked. And it frustrated me to no end.

Lilly had changed overnight. The woman I once knew, the woman who listened to me without question, who obeyed me without hesitation, was now someone else. She talked back to me—confidently, too. It was as if my every word had lost all weight with her. And that bothered me more than I cared to admit.

Yes, I had broken up with her. But how could I just let her move on, especially with someone like Richard? Not just any man, but Richard Lyle—the filthy billionaire, my boss, and one of the most influential men in the business world. Since Lilly started working with him, I hadn’t been able to find a moment of peace.

Chapter 23Richard's Pov. From the very first time I set my eyes on Lilly Tempest, something inside me shifted. It was as though my soul had found its missing piece. She was everything I wanted in a woman and more. She had that rare combination of beauty, brains, and charm that could captivate any man. She was smart, driven, and damn sexy, but it wasn't just her physical appearance that drew me in. There was an aura about her, an energy that made me feel alive every time she entered the room.I had spent years burying myself in work after my disastrous marriage. When it ended, I vowed to never let anyone into my heart again. I tried, of course. I went into a few relationships, hoping to find something real. But with each of them, I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. They were only interested in what they could get from me, my money, my status, my power. None of them truly cared about me, not in the way I wanted. It was like living in a world where everything was filtered through a len

Chapter 22Lilly's pov The thought of Mark possibly ruining this perfect night with Richard made my heart race. I couldn’t help but shiver slightly, my mind drifting back to the brief moment I had seen him standing in the shadows earlier.Richard, sensing my discomfort, glanced at me with concern. “I think we should get you home, love,” he said gently. “I don’t want you getting the flu.”I forced a smile, trying to mask the storm of emotions swirling inside me. “Great idea,” I replied, trying to lighten the mood with a laugh. Thank God Richard hadn’t spotted Mark earlier. I had told him about my past relationship, but not the details—especially not who it was with. I wasn’t sure how he would react when he found out it was Mark.Richard and I made our way to the limousine, and as we drove back, I couldn’t shake the unease that lingered. Mark had a way of showing up at the most inopportune times. I didn’t want him to ruin what had been such a beautiful evening. When we arrived at my ap

Chapter 20Lilly's pov let the phone ring on, unsure of what would happen next if I picked it up and saw that the caller was Mark. My mind raced, the thoughts swirling faster than I could catch them. The emotions tied to Mark were still raw, still tangled in my heart, but I didn't want to let anything ruin this moment with Richard.“Your phone, Lilly, aren’t you going to pick up your call?” Richard asked, his voice filled with curiosity, but his gaze still locked on me, waiting for my response.I hesitated, biting my lip for a moment. “No. Let it ring. I don’t want to break this magical moment,” I said, trying to sound casual, though my voice was a little shaky.“Oh!” Richard’s response was quiet, almost as if he were taken aback by my decision. I could tell he respected my wishes, but there was a moment of uncertainty in his eyes, as if he wondered what was going on in my mind. The phone kept ringing, but I refused to look at it. The ringing sound seemed so loud in the otherwise pea

Chapter 20Lilly's pov What was Mark doing here? Was he here with his girlfriend, or was he stalking me now? The thought made my stomach churn. I glanced at him briefly across the parking lot, but he didn’t seem to notice me. On second thought, it could just be a coincidence. He probably hadn’t even seen me yet. I tried to shake off the unease creeping up my spine and acted like I hadn’t seen him. After all, I wasn’t here for him. I was here with Richard.“Are you okay, Lilly?” Richard’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. He must have noticed the change in my expression, the way my smile faltered for a split second.“Yeah, I’m good,” I managed to say, offering him a reassuring smile. But inside, I wasn’t so sure. The nagging feeling that Mark’s presence might interfere with the night lingered in the back of my mind. I tried to focus on Richard, on the warmth of his hand in mine, and on the evening that was supposed to be perfect. We walked hand in hand down the path toward a private s

Chapter 19Lilly's pov I stepped into the soft glow of my bedroom mirror, my heart pounding with anticipation. Dressed in a v-neck velvet red dress that clung to my figure just right, paired with silver shoes that sparkled under the light, I felt like someone else entirely. The silver heart-shaped purse I held in my hand shimmered with each movement, and my drop earrings swayed delicately as I turned my head. Mia had worked her magic on my hair, styling it in loose waves that framed my face perfectly, and my silver wristwatch caught the light in a way that made me feel elegant, yet effortless. As I took one last look at myself, I could feel the excitement and nerves bubbling in my stomach. Tonight was the night. Richard had made dinner plans, and everything seemed too perfect. But the truth was, I still couldn’t shake the butterflies every time I thought of him. Was I ready to step into this new chapter?I heard a knock on the door, breaking my thoughts, and I quickly made my way t

  • Abandoned by my ex, I accept his boss proposal    Could This Be Love?

Chapter 18Lilly's pov It’s been over two weeks since Richard confessed his feelings for me. In that time, I’ve been caught in a whirlwind of emotions. While I haven’t given him my answer yet, I can’t deny how much I’ve come to care for him. Not once has he pressured me, nor treated me with anything but patience, respect, and kindness. If anything, he’s given me space to think, allowing me to process everything in my own time. And for that, I’m grateful.Watching him work has only deepened my feelings. His diligence, his sincerity, and the way he treats not only me but everyone around him with respect—whether it's the staff, clients, or even strangers—has been nothing short of inspiring. It’s hard not to admire someone like him. And even harder not to feel something more as I watch him navigate each day with grace and humility regardless of his status.Today, however, was different. I arrived at the office like I do every morning, only to realize that Richard wasn’t there. At first,

Chapter 17Lilly's pov “Is something wrong mia?” I asked, my voice laced with concern.”She shook her head, her fingers still hovering over the phone screen. “Why the heck is he calling me? And I can't believe he still has my contact.”I raised an eyebrow,”who is that?.”“Your ex, of course?” she said. She sighed, her grip tightening around the phone. “Mark? That damn fool. What the heck does he want with you?” I couldn’t hide my surprise. “I’m as shocked as you are,” Mia muttered, glancing at the phone again as if hoping it would disappear.I leaned forward. “Are you gonna take the call?”Mia shook her head fiercely. “What for? He can call as much as he wants, but I’m not gonna take his call for anything in the world.”I could see the frustration and unease in her eyes. “He was here very late at night,” I added after a pause.“What? And you opened up for him?” she asked, stunned. “Did he try to hurt you? Did he say anything to you?” her voice rose immediately, her concern for me t

Chapter 16Lilly's povAfter Mark left, I dragged myself back to bed, but sleep wasn’t easy. I was furious with him for showing up at my house at that ridiculous hour. But I was even angrier at myself for actually opening the door to him. I had thought, just for a brief moment, that Mark wouldn’t listen to me when I ordered him to leave. That he would linger, argue, and try to manipulate me like he always did. But he didn’t. And yet, somehow, it still felt like I had no control over the situation. What did he mean by “I can’t stop thinking about you, Lilly?” Did that mean he still had feelings for me? And if that was the case, why now? Why after everything that had happened? No, it couldn’t be. He was the one who broke up with me, who walked away from us without a second thought. And besides, he had someone new in his life now. What was Mark up to?I tossed and turned, battling with the voice in my head, the one that wouldn’t let me forget what Mark had said. Finally, exhaustion took
