SUMMER!" "Get your lazy, ugly, good for nothing ass down here right now!"

I woke up with a start. I know that voice. And I know that only spells trouble. However, it's nothing new because this is like the daily bread that I feast on since I remember. Oh! Point of correction, only when dad is not around.

Mother always has to wake me up around four every morning so I clean up and cook for everyone. Iron again my siblings' clothes and hers for work. Note, iron again. Irrespective of the fact that I would have laundered and ironed them before. I still have to do it again.

And if I dare wake up not on the appointed time, I get a thorough whooping on my bum. Her reason being no one would see it.

Anyway, today is one of those days. Dad has been called by the werewolf king to assist with rogue attacks in the kingdom. Since he is an awesome mighty warrior, he's always been sought after by almost every pack in the world.

Which leaves me alone with my monster mom and straight outta hell little sister. My brother is better but he is just not involved. He won't care whether being beaten or killed. He is just indifferent when it comes to me.

My little sister, however, derives pleasure from making my life a living hell. You might wonder why?? I honestly have no idea. As far as I know, my mom is my biological mom as well as my dad.

However, my dad dotes on me like I am his little personal universe(note the singsong tone). He totally loves me and I love him too. And when he is there, I also rest from the abuse my mom subjects me to.

Oops sorry folks, I never introduced myself.

My name is Summer Reynolds. I am turning 16 in two weeks and I am left with one year to finish high school. Well, worry not about the age because am what you all could call a nerd. When it comes to academics, I am the Queen. So that's why I'm ahead of my age mates.

I live with my mom, dad, and two siblings. Warrior Levi Reynolds is my dad. Mom is Tina, Carla is my little sister and Lenny is my little brother.

Oh and you wanna know something else that's super awesome about me and my family? We are werewolves. Our pack is the Luminous Pack. My dad should have been the alpha but he left the position for his twin brother coz he loved fighting. He wanted to be the warrior and not be limited to staying behind the desk. So you see we got some alpha blood in us.

We don't stay in the pack house. We have our own big house within the pack land but quite far from the pack house. Our house has about eight bedrooms, a bar, entertainment area, study, dad's office, laundry room, two lounges, dining area, and kitchen. Oh, and must I say I clean this all by myself.

Anyway, back to this morning.

I quickly jump into my T-shirt and sweatpants. I run to the kitchen to check on what has raised dear Mama's fury.

The moment I get in her line of sight, I am punched right into the gut. I must say this is a first. Why ever, I still don't know. Mama has always beaten me on the bums with a whip never with her fists. I double up in pain and did not dare let out any sound. She then raises her hand, slaps me hard on the face and I fall backwards hitting my head on the corner of the kitchen counter.

I feel slightly dizzy and can smell blood. I raise my eyes and look at mama and see a slight panic in her eyes which she quickly covers up.

"Tell me right now why the hell you would conceal something like that you stupid girl!? Tell me right now!"

Honestly, I'm confused. Not because of the concussion I'm suspecting I have. But because I have no idea what dear mama is furious about. So I try to speak and am not sure if it's even coherent. I am trying my best not to sleep because I do not want to anger her more.

"Mama p-please".

"Oh, so you think you can shift early and hide it from us your family?"

Huh? Like seriously? Is mom hallucinating or what?. I haven't shifted yet. So what is she on about.?

Darkness is creeping in and I am slowly getting enveloped in it. I so don't have time to fight it. I gladly welcome it.

But as I slip into unconsciousness, I hear my mum mutter something to herself that I wish I never heard.

"Shit! This is the same aura this stupid mutt's mum had when she was in a coma. Exactly who was she"???

I drift off into unconsciousness creeped out by mom's statement.

I am sure I'm still unconscious. Because my eyes are opened but all I see is just darkness. I lay there quietly trying to adjust my eyes and suddenly I think am dreaming. I see myself in a hospital. I look closely and I think this is the maternity ward coz I see a number of pregnant women. But two stand out.

They both look considerably young and beautiful. I look closely and recognize dear mama. She looks like she is in pain which I assume is labour pain. But the woman who is in the next cubicle is something else. She is stunning. A rare beauty. Believe me, I know that I am that good looking but that woman has me awestruck. The nurses attend to both mama and that mystery woman and then left after saying they were to get their respective doctors.

I however notice the accent and it sounds like they are not English. Anyway, I notice my mum get up and go to the next cubicle. She grabs the beauty's throat and growls menacingly.

"WHY DOES YOUR PUP HAVE MY MATE'S SCENT!? IN FACT, WHY DO YOU SMELL AS IF YOU MATED WITH MY MATE!?"

She whispers and yells and the pregnant beauty doesn't say a word. I can't tell if she is scared or she just doesn't want to fight.

"Are you deaf or mute?"

Mom asks but the beauty still doesn't utter a word.

I blink rapidly trying to make sense of this. In no time the scene in front of me changes. I see mama holding a little baby boy.

He looks purplish and seems to be unresponsive. I might be young and all but that baby looks dead. My heart breaks for my mum. I take a look at her face and shudder.

Her expression is scary. She has this sinister smirk as she looks at her dead son and the beauty. She immediately gets up from her bed and with one hand picks the little pink bundle from the crib next to the sleeping beauty and places the dead baby there.

I gasp with shock and the beauty wakes up at the same time. Her beautiful eyes bulge in shock as she sees my mom holding her little pink bundle. She opens her mouth and I'm hit with another shocker!

I see my mum lift her hand and spin it three times pointing at the beauty. She starts chanting some incoherent gibberish. It doesn't take me time to see that it looks like she is chanting a spell! My mind is boggled!

Is my mom a witch? But witches don't exist anymore. Only in movies and tales. Or so I heard. But then again if we werewolves exist, anything is possible. I watch in shock as the Beauty falls into a deep slumber and my mum smirks with evil satisfaction.

I close my eyes tightly and open them and it looks like morning. My mum is nowhere to be found. The beauty is awake and wailing. Heartbroken. The nurses and doctors are sure the baby was a girl and healthy. It's the other woman who had a son. But she left no trail and nobody really knows her!! She was a foreigner.

I am confused. I wish to wake up but I can't. I wish to unsee what I've just seen but I can't again.

Why did my mum say that the Beauty's pup had my dad's scent? Where is that pink bundle she stole? How come she could be so cruel? And before I was enveloped in this darkness what did she mean by saying I had that mutt's aura? Why does she hate me so much as if she isn't the one who gave birth to me?

Why was she so convinced that I had shifted? How could I shift and not know? How? Who will answer all these questions that I have no answers to?

A part of me is consoled by the fact that All this could be some weird dream. A bigger part of me just does not want to get up just yet.

Where am I? Fear grips me when I explore the possibility of me being dead. Oh dear wolf spirits, don't let me die. I am still very young and I have so many dreams and goals set. I also have to graduate and possibly find meself a loving mate. I so dearly wish to know how I will turn out as a mother in life. So you see dear Creator of my forefathers and me, I really need to go back to the real world. I just can't die yet."

I giggle at my foolish chanting but slightly hope that it works.
