Twenty Two

"Seth! May you live to be a hundred years old, my son!!" Mrs. Allen said a little loudly and went straight to her son.

Seth, in question, looked at her to be sure there was no mistake.

"Are you talking to me, beautiful?" He asked her, still looking around to be sure. "Or is there something you wanted?" He eyed his mother suspiciously.

The older woman's eyes turned red with unshed tears. She flicked the invisible tear away with her thumb and turned to face her son.

"Why? What have I done to deserve this injustice? Just because I greeted you warmly?" She questioned.

Seth snorted at the trick his mother was playing. He was already used to it by now. If only she would just say whatever it was she wanted to say, then they could all rest.

"Just what are you trying to rope me into, mom?" He asked her.

"I'm telling you, B. The two of us can just go together," Isabella protested.
