LOGINEdith's POV
“What are we gonna have for dinner?” Yvonne asked, as we walked into the mammoth building of our workplace, Kingston corporation. I worked as the CEO’s secretary while my best friend worked in IT. Regarding my accidental marriage, I'd decided it was best to keep it to myself. I wasn’t planning on meeting Caruso again anyway. Even though I thought about our torrid smooch at the chapel everyday for no good reason. Asides that, the fact that Heather had yet to forgive me, and that I still harboured untoward feelings for Murphy, weighed heavily on my chest like a slab of lead. “You are funny,” I said, amused, “We barely just got to work and you're already thinking about dinner.” Shrugging, Yvonne replied, “Food is central to my life. I'm thinking we should have lasagna. Or will you make your special buffalo sauce with rice?” Utterly bemused, I shook my head, “Let's see how the day goes.” “Okay,” She responded, as we stepped into the elevator, where two of our coworkers were in. After exchanging pleasantries with them, I clicked on the fifth floor, where the CEO’S office and Yvonne's department were located. My phone dinged with a notification just then, and I retrieved it from my satchel. Swiping on the screen, I saw that I had a new email from the CEO, Bryan Hudson. As I clicked the message open, my eyes widened in horror. “Hello, Edith. The company has been sold, and I am no longer the CEO. But don't worry, you will keep your job as there will be zero reshuffling according to the new CEO. Take care.” This had to be a joke. A very expensive one at that. I mean, how could he tell me something so crucial via an email? “What's wrong? Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?” Yvonne asked, her voice carrying a hint of concern. “Mr Hudson is no longer the CEO,” I uttered, still in disbelief as I gaped at the email, desperately wishing this was a dream. Hearing Yvonne and the other two ladies gasp however, as a shocked expression mauled her mien told me otherwise. Mr Hudson had really sold the company. What if the new CEO wasn't as kindhearted as middle-aged Mr Hudson? What was I supposed to do then? “Are you sure of your words?” The taller of the two ladies cut through the tense silence. “Yes,” I said, handing over my phone to Yvonne, so the three of them could peruse Mr Hudson's email. “It is real!” The shorter lady shrieked, “But, why would he do something like this?” “We could have thrown him a send-off party or something,” I muttered, “Do you think he was forced to step down because he's not an impulsive person?” “Let's hope that the new CEO doesn't order a reshuffling like he promised,” said Yvonne, “This is just too crazy.” I desperately and honestly hoped so too. After five grueling months of job hunting, I had finally landed my secretarial job seven months ago. I really couldn't relive the nightmare of carding through the city of New Jersey for a job again. Had Mr Hudson said anything rather than resigning abruptly, I would have found alternatives. “We will just have to hope for the best at this point.” The taller lady spoke, and I could only nod, as my inner turmoil heightened. “That, and also start applying for new jobs,” The other one replied, causing trepidation to lance through me. “I agree.” I replied, while Yvonne exhaled heavily. Soon after, the elevator came to a stop with a ding, and the two ladies got off. “Do you think the new CEO will resume today?” I asked Yvonne, as I frantically nimbled on my bottom lip. “Maybe. Mr Hudson didn't say anything regarding that?” “Not at all,” I mused, with a huge sigh. Just when I'd thought my life couldn't possibly get any worse. It was clear the universe had it in for me. “Let me know whatever happens, okay?” Yvonne said, as the elevator halted. “Okay.” I said, as we trekked out of the enclosure. Nodding, Yvonne gave me a reassuring pat on the shoulder, which I very much appreciated, as it'd slightly alleviated the whirlwind of fear swirling within me. Moments later, I stood in front of the CEO’s office, with cold feet. Even on my first day of job, I hadn't been this anxious. I had no idea whether the new person was even in or not. Regardless, I knocked on the door, with my heart in my mouth. However, I got no response. After knocking two more times, I decided to enter the office. Lo and behold, the person I'd least expected to see, my accidental husband, Caruso, was standing by the desk in a grey pinstripe suit, with a wry smile curving his lips. My breath hitched as I gawked at him in complete horror. “Why are you here?” I asked, stupefied. “Take a wild guess.” He replied, his smile morphing into a sardonic smirk. The wheels in my head spun. “You are the new CEO.” I stated, horrified. “There you go,” Caruso replied. “No,” I shook my head in negation, as he confirmed my fear. “I will stop at nothing to bed you, wife. Even if it means buying a company,” He husked, grey eyes glinting with animalistic lust as he approached. He was even worse of a lunatic than I'd previously assumed. Caruso had to be incredibly wealthy for him to purchase a whole corporation within days. “And that doesn't sound insanely creepy to you?” I spurted out incredulously. “You have called me crazy before, so I'm not exactly acting out of character.” He said, as my back hit the cold wall. Before I could find my voice, Caruso had closed the gap between us and trapped me in his arms. “Get away from me,” My voice came out a shocking croak, causing him to chuckle, the rich sound sending a lewd current through me. Like it'd done at the hotel when he trapped me to the bed. The moment he grabbed my waist, my horrifying suspicion was confirmed, as I caught myself shifting against the hard wideness of his muscular chest. Somehow, I had become sexually attracted to Caruso, while my heart still yearned for Murphy. I was now trapped between the devil and the blue sea. And somehow, Caruso was both. “I could sue you for sexual harassment,” I said, my voice coming out a low whisper, deriding the essence of my threat. “Will you really do that when your body clearly craves me, wife?” Caruso prodded, his large hands caressing my waist, making erotic heat pool in my sheath. From up close, he looked even more attractive, albeit in a devilish manner, with an impeccable facial structure; a regal nose and dangerously enticing lips, that had me swallowing harshly. “Stop talking nonsense,” I spat, despite the intense throbbing of my slit, “I mean it.” Caruso only seemed entertained by my antics. “No, you don't,” He pushed, his wanton stare dropping to my lips, “Be honest with your body. You want this as much as I do, Edith.” I remained tongue-tied, my heart scudding with a wanton rhythm. “You need a distraction from Murphy and I can do a fine job of that,” Caruso continued, his hand moving upward to cup my face, “I will give you three months of great sex, a fat reward and grant you an annulment afterwards.“ His cadence was so smooth, I almost found myself giving in to him right there and then. Luckily, I was able to snap out of it. Mustering every atom of the little self-restraint I had left, I withdrew from him, and he smirked; an act that made my stomach flip. “No, thank you.” My voice came out less firmer than I intended. Without darting him another glance, I hurried out of his office, my pussy pulsating with amorous hunger. My life was truly a series of bad events.Edith’s POV “Be careful with your steps, sweetheart,” Dad uttered, as we walked through the thorny bushes, leading to my mum’s grave. “Yes, dad.” I replied, inwardly hoping that the bushes which seemed dangerously close to my skin wouldn’t prick my flesh apart. It had been a week since I came clean to dad, Yvonne, and Murphy about my pregnancy. Fortunately, they had all chosen to adhere to my preference of not telling Caruso about it, albeit dad and Yvonne still had no idea that he was in the mafia. Dad and I were now back in San Francisco, at Mauro’s cemetery, where my mother had been laying for almost three decades. “Just give me your hand,” He said, holding out his hand, which I eagerly grabbed. Soon after, we reached there. Her gravestone was a beautiful pink tinged with beige and gold. In the middle of her tomb was an encrypted picture of her, beaming heartily, her pearly set of gorgeous teeth on display. “Meredith Zelda Tanner (Nee Hampton) June 15, 1974 to March 3, 20
Edith’s POVI continued to gape at the doctor, my head harboring a myriad of unhinged thoughts, as I mulled over his revelation.I was pregnant with Caruso’s child. After choosing to have him dump his cum inside me the last time we had sex, I had somehow forgotten to take an after pill, and now, I was carrying his baby. Each time I thought my life couldn’t by chance get more turbulent, the universe always managed to catch me off guard.“That’s wonderful news truly.” I managed after a long while.Seemimgly sensing my inner turmoil, the doctor replied.“It surely is. I will let you get some rest now.”“Alright. Thanks, doctor.” I said, inwardly relieved. When the door slammed shut, I steered my gaze from my blanket-clad feet to the door.No matter how tumultuous my situation could be, one thing was certain.Caruso could never know that I was pregnant, even if I still hadn’t decided whether or not to keep it.Had it been we shared a mutual romantic attraction to each other, things would
Edith’s POVI kept my gaze rooted on Caruso’s, while remaining still in Leo’s vice grip, in fear of accidentally moving an inch and slitting my throat with his knife. The relief that’d gripped me when Caruso descended the stairs, had been insurmountable. He hadn’t abandoned me after all.“Let her go.” Caruso uttered, his voice low and calm as he kept the gun pointed at Leo.“Why should I?” Leo barked into my right ear, but I knew better than to flinch.“Let her go.” Caruso reiterated.I heard Leo chuckle before he pressed the knife into my skin, causing me to gasp in a mix of horror and pain.“Give me a reason to.” Leo replied, as he retracted the knife away from within my skin.I felt vermillion trickle down my throat, as he tightened his grip on me from behind.Without uttering another word, Caruso cocked his gun, and before I could comprehend his next line of action, he fired a shot directly at Leo.Instantly, his grip on me loosened, and I heard a thud as his body dropped to the g
Caruso’s POVWith my hands bunched and stuffed into my pockets, I paced the computer room, while watching the computer experts as they worked. It had been three days since Edith was abducted by Leo, and there was still nothing that could be used to trace him.Not even the slightest of signals.Suddenly, one of them stopped, a tuft of gasp escaping him.“What is the matter?” I asked, my voice oozing with impatience, “Did you find something?”“Not yet, boss,” He replied, “The wifi went out for a bit, but is back now.”Repressing the urge to scoff at him with irritation, I managed a stiff nod, my thoughts drifting to Edith for the umpteenth time that evening.Only the heavens knew what her state of health was like at the moment. The fact that Leo had yet to call since after that day made the whole situation even more jarring.“Boss,” One of the analysts called, causing me to halt and move closer to him.“Yes?” I uttered.“We got a signal,” He divulged, “A very strong one at that.”Relief
Edith’s POVMy heart dropped to the innermost pit of my belly as the guy, who had called Caruso, ended the call with a manic smirk.Without a doubt, I knew I was in big trouble.Calling it big was probably even understating the level of problem that I’d now been thrusted in.“W-What did he say?” I stuttered out, as the guy slotted his phone into his pocket. It had been roughly a day since I was abducted and brought into a decrepit warehouse that looked like it was a medium thunder storm away from getting destroyed. And I still didn’t know the names of any of my captors.Apart from the bald guy who’d abducted me from the hospital, there was the guy who’d phoned Caruso, as well as another younger guy, who seemed like he was around my age.Currently, I was tied to a chair in my mint green pyjamas, with my feet chained to the ground, as though I was some monstrous creature. But, I knew better than to voice out my complaints, because neither of the guys looked friendly in the slightest.“W
Caruso’s POV“The goods have now been safely transported to warehouse, boss.” Oscar divulged, as I perused my copy of the annulment paperwork for the umpeenth time that afternoon. As though doing so could magically erase mine and Edith’s signatures, and make us a married couple again.“Okay.” I reluctantly tore my gaze away from the paperwork. The moment Oscar opened his mouth to respond, the door came open as Denzel barged in looking furious, with a newspaper crumpled in his hold.“I will excuse myself, boss.” Oscar replied, then greeted Denzel, who ignored him as he trained a heated glare at me.What could have possibly happened? The question remained unanswered in my head, as I held his glare.“The fuck is this, Caruso?” He snarled, sliding the newspaper onto my desk, “How long have you been hiding these from me?”Confusion festered within me, as I took the newspaper, and on seeing the front page news, which was printed in bold, red letters, I sighed inwardly.“Woman, 30, charged w
