Chapter 07 - Her bitter past

CHAPTER 07 - HER BITTER PAST

Selena was standing outside the office. For the last half an hour, she was roaming here and there, waiting for the taxi.

Her very first day in the office was a bit sour and sweet. From that troublemaker Misty to romance in front of all the office people, everything was exciting for her.

Her cheeks were blooming more than a flower. The whole day she was feeling a little uncomfortable. The moment with Shawn was not allowing her to relax even for a moment. That moment was now written in history as well as in every office staff member's heart.

No one could forget how Selena's fragile body fell above his muscular figure. Their eyes were playing archery, attacking each other's hearts.

Her hands covered her chest while his hands rested over her back. One strand of her hair was hooked in his shirt's button, making them fall again.

Everyone was having fun looking at them with their prying eyes. As if there was a shooting of an office romance drama going on.

Some of them even covered their eyes with their hands. However, they were still peeking with mocking smirks on their faces.

How could anyone forget this moment easily? For a while, everyone felt as if their boss finally melted down on Selena. She was indeed beautiful enough to seduce anyone. Everyone held hopes closer to their hearts, hoping one day Selena would melt their cold boss.

One day, the icy office rooms would turn into spring festivals. There would be love and just love.

Everyone could fall in love and get rid of this 'no girlfriend and boyfriend allow' clause.

She kept watching the time, slowly passing on. Her gaze was fixed on the ground when the front light coming from a car fell on her.

The light made her figure shiny on this gloomy night.

Selena tried to see the person, stopping the light with her hands, when a tall, handsome guy came out of the car and approached her.

"Long time no see, Selena."

Selena's face turned bitter when her past stood in front of her. With a sharp tone, she called out his name. "M- Mark?"

Even his name made her feel like throwing up. No doubt, there was only hate left for him in her heart.

Seeing his creepy smile again, Selena's anger was boiling. He acted as if nothing happened in the past.

"Darling, you have become more beautiful than before." He tried to embrace her, but Selena moved back. Her eyes were staring down as tears were forming in them. Still saluting her courage, she lifted her chin and looked into his eyes. "Sorry! Do I know you?"

A scoff escaped his mouth as his smile faded in the air. "You're daring to forget me, huh? Remember when you always stayed behind me. No matter how annoying I was to you, you didn't leave my side. Did you forget your begs?"

A tear escaped her eye when her knees trembled, recalling those depressing memories.

*Flashback*

The crush of school time, which seemed hard to get, caused more pain than happiness in Selena's life. When she finally gathered the courage to confess, the girls around Mark always broke her down.

In the end, Mark finally accepted her. But from then on, Selena never got a chance to smile fully.

It was always as if Mark was using her to fulfill his enjoyment. Yet Selena didn't let other's voices come inside her ears and kept loving him unconditionally.

But as their relationship moved, Selena's insecurities kept growing.

Mark was more likely a handsome yet bitchy playboy. He never cared about Selena's feelings and kept going on hangouts with other women.

One day, when Selena and her friend Lucas went to buy some material for their project, Mark's friend spotted them.

The day ended badly, leaving Selena crying in a mess.

Mark was furious as he went ahead, and she was running after him, weeping.

"Mark, hear me out, please. It's not what you're thinking."

She tried to grab the corner of his sleeve, but Mark pushed her hand away firmly.

"Stay away from me, you cheater. Tell me, how many boyfriends do you have behind my back?"

"W-what are you talking about, Mark? I love none of them but you only."

A mocking smile added salt to her wounds. "Am I stupid to believe in you? Selena, let's break up."

Already crying in a mess, Selena couldn't stand this sudden shock. Her feet automatically turned weak as she sat on her knees with hands joined together. "Please, don't leave me. I beg you, Mark. I wouldn't ever meet any other guy, please."

Selena held his legs tightly, couldn't dare to leave him. "Mark, give me another chance. I beg you!"

*Flashback ended*

Even though tears soundlessly rolled down her cheeks, she had a sneer on her lips.

"Still, you didn't care about my begs and left me alone on the terries. I feel pity for myself. How can I fall for a bastard like you who doesn't even care about our relationship? You used me and left me alone. But I still gave you non-stop chances that now made me feel disgusted."

Skin started bunching around his eyes as he glared at her and walked towards her with his fist clenched tightly. "How dare you call me a bastard?"

He had almost raised his hand on Selena when someone caught him from behind and pushed him to the ground. She wasn't even shocked to see his actions as she had enough of him in the past. Her eyes didn't even blink. However, she felt taken aback seeing Shawn standing like a protective wall in front of her.

In this whole situation, she was paying attention to only one thing, why did Shawn save her? Was it normal? Or did he feel pity for her too?
