Chapter 4 Ridiculous Reason

According to Mateo's instructions, Cheryl jumped down from the helicopter and immediately ran away, who had descended with Veronica first.

The night wind blew hard against Cheryl's skin, blowing strands of her hair and making her shiver with cold. Cheryl had never felt scared like this before. It felt as if he was struck by misfortune repeatedly on the same night.

"Where did the helicopter driver go?" Cheryl asked as she continued to run after Mateo after she saw the helicopter driver leaving the helipad above Rafael's apartment building again.

“Keep that useless vehicle away from this building,” Mateo replied calmly. His hand moved to reach Cheryl's arm. Then he brought Cheryl to go faster.

"The helicopter is going to explode?" Veronica asked.

"Possible,"

Cheryl frowned. The helicopter was about to explode, but the driver didn't immediately get down to save himself.

“Alejandro's bodyguards will arrive in 15 minutes. For now, we should stay at Rafael's apartment." Mateo pressed the button for the elevator to go to the floor of Rafael's apartment.

Cheryl glanced at Veronica who was standing beside her. She looked calm, seems like she didn’t bother by the situation.

"You weren't hurt, were you?" Mateo turned his head. He looked at Cheryl with a probing look.

Cheryl shows her scratched arm as she jumps from the helicopter. "You have to pay compensation for hurting my arm." She grumbled in annoyance. Not because she felt pain but because she was worried that the wound would leave scars on her smooth skin.

"It's just a small wound, don't overdo it!"

“You are exaggerating for suddenly coming here using a junked helicopter!” Cheryl shouted angrily.

The elevator doors clinked and opened wide to reveal the lobby of Rafael's floor.

Cheryl quietly asked in her heart. Who is Rafael? Why does he live in an ordinary apartment building? Remembering that Rafael is Veronica's ex-boyfriend, shouldn't he have a luxurious apartment unit? At least a penthouse.

Even though Cheryl knows that the price of Rafael’s apartment units is almost the same as the price of land in Manhattan's luxury housing estates. However, it feels strange if Veronica is in a relationship with an ordinary man, who is not as rich as other people around them.

"Wow, it turns out I have another guest!" Rafael exclaimed happily when he opened the door to find Mateo, Veronica, and Cheryl standing in front of him.

Veronica rang the bell first, and the woman gave a clumsy smile when she saw the displeased look on Mateo's face.

“Come in. I still have some steak for you, Mateo!” Rafael shifted his body and invited the three guests to return to his apartment.

Cheryl could see the scars on his nose and lips as she walked past Rafael. The stupid ass-brained man has just attacked the man who saved Cheryl and Veronica from being chased by a mysterious man carrying a gun. She grimaced inwardly, then cursed Mateo in her heart. For the first time of her heart, Cheryl was a little embarrassed to admit Mateo as her brother.

Oh my gosh…

Cheryl blinked quickly. She suddenly thought that the man who attacked her might be the same person who had just hacked into Mateo's helicopter system.

"Your arm hurt?"

Cheryl flinched in surprise when a cold hand touched her arm suddenly.

"Sorry," Rafael grimaced with a witty smile. “You have to clean the wound and apply a bandage. Let me get the medicine box in my room.” He continued.

Cheryl quietly looked back at Rafael. His broad back moved quietly, and his feet made his way quickly to the second floor, past the stairs behind the living room. From the neck and back of the shoulder, Cheryl could see the tip of the tattoo peeking under the black shirt he was wearing.

Again. Cheryl blinked again. She immediately walked into the living room, following Mateo and Veronica who had already sat there first.

“Cheryl, come here. I will clean your wound!” Rafael came a few seconds after Cheryl joined Mateo and Veronica, “and you left your phone behind when you passed out. Luckily I could get you guys back without the hassle of dropping your phone off at your mansion. Mateo must have installed a detection device at the gate of his house, so I'm not allowed in."

Cheryl turned her head quickly when Rafael held out her cell phone while carrying the medicine box he had taken from the second floor.

Cheryl's eyes blinked slowly after she understood Rafael's sentence.

“Luckily I was able to get you guys back…”

Oh my gosh, if she didn't draw the wrong conclusion, then that means…

"You hacked my helicopter system?" Mateo rose to his feet with an expression full of emotion.

Veronica got up too. She looked at Rafael with a panicked expression as if she knew that the naughty man must be deliberately trying to upset Mateo with his crazy thing.

"What should I do? Cheryl's cell phone was left behind, and you never allowed my car into your mansion complex." Rafael shrugged nonchalantly.

When Mateo prepared to walk towards Rafael while clenching his fists, Veronica immediately grabbed him with all her might.

Cheryl panicked too. She still clearly remembered that Mateo had just beaten Rafael, causing his nose to hurt. Therefore, when she saw Veronica trying to restrain Mateo, Cheryl also stepped foot to hold Rafael's arm.

"Are you crazy?!" Mateo shouted angrily.

"Mateo, stop yelling. Let's go home!" Veronica exclaimed.

Cheryl knew that Mateo could throw Veronica's hand away in one hit, but he chose to remain calm in Veronica's grip. Even Mateo obeyed Veronica when she pulled him out of Rafael's apartment.

Slowly Mateo begins to ignore Rafael and his annoyance because he is more busy fighting with Veronica. The two of them walked through the apartment door while continuing to argue with each other.

Cheryl doesn't really understand what Mateo and Veronica are arguing about, maybe about Rafael's madness and Veronica's efforts to stop him, who is ready to beat Rafael for the second time.

“How long will you hold my arm, Cheryl? Didn't your arm hurt? Let me tend to your wounds.,” Raphael spoke calmly.

Cheryl moved away, surprised, when she realized she was still holding his arm. As soon as she realized her stupidity, she picked up her cell phone that was lying on the table and started walking towards the apartment door.

"You really are crazy!" Cheryl snorted in annoyance. She glanced at Mateo and Veronica who had already walked in front of her. They were still arguing, maybe fighting again because of the ridiculous incident that had just happened.

"You want to see another of my crazy thing?"

Cheryl turned, she looked back at Rafael carefully. For a moment, she didn't think that such a joking guy could do such a crazy thing as hack into Mateo's helicopter security and make them all freak out.

"Who are you?" Cheryl asked.

Rafael smiled, "Want to meet me?"

Cheryl shook her head slowly. “I once crashed a Mateo helicopter, and he wasn't mad at all. I've also caused the company to lose over $100 million in one night just because I was caught hacking its own security system, but Mateo wasn't angry. He just laughed and defended me in front of Mommy." Cheryl looked back at Veronica and Mateo, who were further away from where they were standing. They were too busy fighting to notice that Cheryl wasn't behind them. "Who are you? Why is Mateo so mad at you? And why do you like to provoke Mateo's anger as if you enjoy every curse he gives you?”

“What if I told you that I intentionally hacked the helicopter's security system so I could see you one more time?”

Cheryl's heart skipped a beat.

Rafael's eyes were serious. He looked at her intently. And even though she knew that Rafael was a guy who liked to joke and spout nonsense for fun, she still couldn't stop her heart from beating abnormally.

Warning alarms began to sound to signal danger in Cheryl's mind.

There’s something wrong with Rafael's eyes. His eyes did look mysterious, making her want to dive deeper to find something that might be hidden behind the net. Shining brown. Bright and shiny. Looks so familiar in her head.

However, she must immediately get out of this curiosity before she falls too far. Because she realized that if the warning alarm sounded, she had crossed the limit she had set herself.

“What if I told you that I intentionally hacked the helicopter's security system so I could see you one more time?”

But once again, Rafael's words echoed in her mind. Those words disturb Cheryl's peace, making it harder for her to walk away from Rafael, who was standing a few steps behind her.

And Cheryl lost on her own game. She turned her head and looked at Rafael once more.

Maybe after this, they will not see each other. Maybe she should forget everything that happened tonight and pretend that nothing had happened that made her have to meet and get to know Rafael in person. Maybe… it would be good if this incident disappeared from her memory.

She didn't know Rafael, and she was never bothered by the mysterious stares that Rafael gave her, nor was she bothered by the joking lines that Rafael might say in a non-serious manner.

"See you later, Cheryl!" Rafael waved his hand, "maybe we won't be seeing each other soon, but I'm sure we will meet again."

Cheryl's hands felt numb as she tried to control herself so as not to wave back.

They won't see each other soon, but they will definitely meet again.

As if saying a promise that would surely be kept, Rafael gave a smile full of confidence, making her heart beat uncontrollably.

There's something wrong with Rafael. Or maybe there's something wrong with her.

She doesn't want to find out what's wrong with them, but she knows that Rafael's existence can send a danger warning in her head. Which meant she had to stay away from him if she didn't want to get into trouble.
