"My decision is final, we're still getting divorced. My future's way more important than our marriage. Besides, we're still too young to be married," Damian said.

"Your future? You're talking about your future while I'm here carrying your child? You don't think my future matters, Damian?" I asked.

Damian let out a long sigh, his fingers adjusting his tie that was already perfectly straight. His cold demeanor was what hurt me the most. Not his anger, not his yelling, but his indifference. As if me and the baby in my belly were just a minor inconvenience in his perfect life.

"You know how all of this happened, you're the one who approached me at that party and you're the one who kept flirting with me," I said.

He turned around, his eyes staring at me coldly.

"What happened at that party was a mistake. I was drunk, you were drunk too. We were both wrong but you're the one who chose to keep the baby, not me."

"I'm keeping it because this is our child! Do you think I wanted to get pregnant at 19?"

Damian walked over to his red suitcase in the corner of the room.

"Listen," he said while opening the suitcase and starting to pack his clothes neatly.

"I've already talked to my lawyer. The divorce process will be quick. We've prepared all the documents. I'm going to win, you know that, and there's money behind this," he said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"My Dad won't let this marriage continue and he's already assembled the best legal team. They're going to prove that this child isn't mine."

"You're lying," I whispered.

"Do I look like I'm lying? Do you have proof? A DNA test? During pregnancy, DNA testing can be done, but it's risky for your baby. And you know what? I'll never agree to that test. Without my consent, you can't prove anything."

He was right, I knew that. All this time I'd been too busy crying and hoping he would change. I never thought about strategy and I never thought about lawyers.

"You're truly cruel, all this time you've been planning all of this, while I..."

"While you what? While you were dreaming about a happy family? About me becoming a good father to your baby? You're too naive, Alissa. Did you think our marriage would last?"

Damian never hit me, never yelled at me harshly, but the wounds he carved through his words cut much deeper than any physical blow.

"I admit it, I knew you already had a fiancée when we got married. Laura, that girl. But you said you loved me. You said you would choose me," I said.

"I lied, I just wanted to please my father who was furious at the time because I got a girl like you pregnant. But now my father's calmed down and he's already set up a strategy. Laura's also forgiven me. We're going to get married after this divorce is final."

"So our marriage was just a cover?"

"Our marriage was a mistake, Alissa. A mistake that needs to be fixed immediately. It's better for us to get divorced. We're both still 19 and our future's still long. I have to continue my studies in America as my father requested."

"I know you're going there to see Laura. Do you think I'm stupid? I know you two have been in touch all this time and I know she's the one who sent you those messages in the middle of the night," I said.

Damian's face remained blank, "This has nothing to do with her. Besides, we got married because of an accident, you got pregnant out of wedlock."

His eyes stared at my six-month pregnant belly with a cynical look. I felt my baby move, as if he could feel his mother's tension. I placed my hand on my belly, trying to calm the little one.

"And I'm not sure it's mine. At that time it wasn't just the two of us, my friends were there too. But why did you come after me? Is it because my parents are rich so you accused me of being the father of that baby?"

I slapped his cheek. My patience had run out.

"You and your friends were indeed drunk, but you were the only one who touched me. I'm going to find the CCTV footage from that hotel and you're going to see how you seduced me," I said.

"Stop it, I don't want to remember any of that."

"Because you know this is your child and you're too much of a coward to admit it!"

"You never understand what I mean. We're still too young," he said.

"I understand that me and my baby are just obstacles to your future," I said.

He moved his suitcase toward the door. "You're going to get a settlement. It's already been arranged. You can start a new life with that money."

"I don't want your money! I just need you to be a father to this child!"

"Damn it, Alissa!" Damian spun around, for the first time showing emotion. "Do you think I'm happy leaving my wife and child? But I don't have a choice! My Dad threatened to cut off my entire inheritance! I can't lose that!"

"So you chose money over us?"

"I chose my future! I chose the life I was supposed to live, not a life forced upon me because of one night of mistake!"

We were silent for a moment. I could hear the ticking of the clock on the wall, the sound of my ragged breathing, and my racing heartbeat. My baby moved again, stronger this time, as if he was angry.

"Then go. Go to America with Laura or whoever you want. But remember this, one day, this child's going to look for his father and when that happens, I'm going to make sure he knows how his father chose to abandon him for money and another woman," I said.

Damian opened the door and looked at me one last time.

"Goodbye, Alissa," he said.

Then he left and the bedroom door closed, I fell to my knees on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. My baby kept moving, as if trying to comfort me. I hugged my belly, whispering to the little one that we were going to be okay.

But I knew nothing was okay. Damian was gone, his lawyers were ready to destroy me and I was just a 19-year-old girl six months pregnant with no money, and no one I could ask for help.

Louis turned to leave, but I saw Damian clench his fists at his sides. His face went pale, his eyes unable to look away from Louis. I could see the struggle in his eyes between the urge to speak to his son and the awareness that this wasn't the right time."No, Louis. He's not a patient. This is... this is Mr. Kingsley. He's a potential investor for the hospital," I said.Louis turned back, looking at Damian with curiosity."Oh, Mr. Kingsley? I'm Louis. Dr. Alissa's son."He extended his hand warmly, without a hint of suspicion.Damian stared at Louis's outstretched hand, then at Louis's face. I saw his jaw tighten, his clenched hands beginning to tremble. He wanted to say something, I could see it, but he held himself back."Nice to meet you, Louis," Damian finally said, his voice hoarse. He shook Louis's hand with a grip that was probably too long.Louis smiled, unaware of the tension in the room."Hope everything goes well, Mr. Kingsley. Sorry, I didn't know my mom was in a meeting

I felt my name slip from his lips as if it had stopped time. My feet immediately froze in place.I turned around slowly, letting go of Nicholas's hand without meaning to. Damian stood before me, only a few meters away. His eyes were fixed on me, and for a moment, I saw the man I used to love."Can I help you, Mr. Kingsley?" I asked, my voice cold and professional.Damian looked at me, then at Nicholas beside me. His eyes narrowed, studying Nicholas carefully. But then he shifted his gaze back to me, and his expression softened into something calmer."Actually, I'd like to talk to you about business. I heard that the plastic surgery department at this hospital is in need of the latest equipment for reconstructive surgery. I'd like to offer a donation. The latest plastic surgery equipment from Germany. I think it would be very beneficial for your patients," Damian said.I stared at him suspiciously. Damian Kingsley, the man who left me eighteen years ago, now offering medical equipment

Lunch break came, but I was still sitting in my chair, staring blankly at the wall. Louis's photo on my desk seemed to look back at me with his innocent blue eyes, reminding me of the man I'd just left behind in the hallway.I still couldn't move, couldn't think clearly. My mind was still a mess, trapped between a painful past and a present that suddenly felt so fragile.A knock on the door made me jump."Dr. Alissa? Are you in there?"Nicholas's voice. I let out a sigh of relief. Nicholas, my ever-loyal friend, had come at the right time. But when he opened the door and stepped in, concern was written all over his face."You look pale," he said, walking closer. "I waited for you in the cafeteria for twenty minutes. You didn't show up. I started to worry."He sat in the chair across from me, his eyes studying me with full attention."What's wrong? Why do you look like someone who just saw a ghost?" he asked."I'm fine, just a little dizzy.""I've known you for twenty years. Don't lie

I heard my name slip from his lips, and for a moment, the world felt like it stopped spinning. But only for a moment. I've spent eighteen years rebuilding myself from scratch, and I won't let this man—the man who destroyed me tear down everything I've built with just a whisper of my name.I took a deep breath, pressed my fingers against my sides, and put on a perfectly professional smile. The smile I've practiced for years in the operating room, in front of important patients, in front of people who tried to intimidate me. The smile that never shows what's really happening inside my heart."I'm very pleased to meet you and our potential investor. But I must apologize, I can't join today's tour," I said.Mr. Alan frowned. "What's wrong, Doctor? Is there a problem?""There's no problem, sir. It's just that I have a patient already waiting in my practice room. Mr. Hartono's daughter is scheduled for a rhinoplasty surgery today, and I need to do a final examination before the procedure. I

Eighteen years had passed since I left London. Right now I was stepping on my car's gas pedal.I was driving along the main city road, my fingers tapping the steering wheel casually. Outside the window, giant screens on tall buildings were displaying my own face. On every corner of the city, my photo was plastered, wearing a white doctor's coat, my black hair flowing, and my face showing no signs of aging after 18 years. Beneath my photo, written in large letters: Dr. Alissa Mariana - Best Plastic Surgeon 2026. Cosmetic surgery was indeed trending. In the last 3 years, my name had soared. My clients came from all walks of life, celebrities, officials, even international stars came to me just to be handled by me. I had built a reputation as a plastic surgeon with a magical touch, capable of transforming appearances without leaving scars. I took a deep breath and smiled slightly. Louis, my son, had successfully gotten into his favorite university last week. He competed with thousan

I spent the rest of that day in the airport waiting area, sitting on a hard plastic chair while holding my stomach which still ached. Several security officers came to ask if I needed medical help, but I refused. The plane took off at 2 PM. I sat in a window seat, watching the city of London grow smaller from above. The journey was very long, over a dozen hours. I changed planes twice, sat in cold waiting rooms, and tried to sleep on uncomfortable chairs. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Damian's face when he shoved me.Finally, after an exhausting journey, I arrived at the airport in my home country. The warm air was so different from London's cold. I stood in the arrival area with my suitcase in one hand and my large belly on the other side, watching people being picked up by their families with happy smiles.I called a taxi and gave my uncle's address. My uncle was my only remaining family after my parents died in an accident three years ago. He was my mother's younger brother, a
