“Ryker..”

“Hush. No arguments, remember? Now, come on. Let’s go.” His voice topped whatever I had to say. My protest died down in my throat as he got out of the car, rounded it, and came over to my side.

He pulled the door open and extended a hand. “Did I remind you of how beautiful you are?”

I scoffed, placed my hand on his, and let him help me up. “You did. But not in the nicest way.”

Getting out of the car, I fixed my gown while he shut the door after me. “Then, I’ll rephrase my statement.” He placed both hands around my hips, leaned over my ear, and whispered. “You look delightfully appetizing, Lamb. Can’t wait to spread you over my table and eat your little cunt later.”

I face flared up real bad I could feel the heat against my skin. Then he pulled away, chuckling at whatever my face looked like at that point.

“You’re so shameless.” I meant to say it with a touch of anger in my voice, but it came out like a slow realization that I let out as a whisper.

He brushed my hair a

It took more than an hour to pacify Ryker to let go of Miles’s collar. A few officers came out to separate them from killing each other. Or more like—stopping Ryker from killing Miles.“I agreed to come knowing she would have come here anyway with or without me. Isn’t it better that I was here to keep her safe than decline and have her come here alone?” Miles groaned. Ryker glared at him one last time. Huffed and grabbed my arm before pulling me towards the car. Okay, maybe that worked. I turned slightly and squeezed out a small smile at Miles and mouthed. “Sorry”He snorted back in return before heading to his car, which was parked on the other side.“Smile at that motherfucker again and see how he’d look with his face burnt like a steak.” Ryker’s voice came. Sharp and cold. And filled with that underlying jealousy.“I wasn’t smiling at him.”“Shut up.” He pulled the front door open and grumbled. “Get your ass in the car, Vanessa.”I chuckled while he maintained a straight face.

    >____"Ryker will kill me if he finds out I agreed to this sick plan of yours." Miles cursed multiple times under his breath beside me. I threw him a single glance and whispered back. "I'll tell him I forced you to come along with me. Don't worry, you'll be okay."After saying that, I leaned back on the iron chair, fingers clutching my bag placed on my lap. "You think it's that simple, huh?" Miles scoffed. "I brought his pregnant fiancée to see her ex-husband. That's a blasphemous act for someone like Ryker.""You're exaggerating this." I rolled my eyes, turned back to see if Derek was coming but there was no sign of him yet. "He's a prisoner now. Not like we went to his house or something." "Still doesn't change the fact that I'm about to be grilled alive by Ryker." "You can just stand outside and wait till I'm done, you know?"Miles threw me a glare. "So that crazy son of a motherfucker can sneak up on you and hurt you? That'll be double offense on my end if

  • After Divorce, I Married His Half-Brother   Chapter 110. Punish Me Instead

My father spoke up again, cracking through the crisis rolling in my head. This time, his voice had lost its edge. It was more subtle and low, almost like he was trying to placate a kid. A kid that shouldn’t have had to carry so many grudges rooted in the darkest pit of his soul. “Take it out on me instead, Ryker. You don’t have to do all of these. You don’t have to go to these extremes to break a person. Punish me instead. I was the one who brought you into this world. I intentionally didn’t give your mother a title and let her stay as a stained mistress and made you an illegitimate son. Just…leave them out of this. Please.”He was pleading. Telling me to let go. While it should be a pitiful sight to witness, it only provoked me instead. And the first thing that came to mind was; He’s choosing them again. Dad would always shield his ‘real’ family. Over me. Over whatever he thought he had with my mother. It would never be us.He would rather take a blow for those two. Hell, he would b

    >____"You seriously want to go against me now? How much worse can you get, Ryker?!" My father barked from across the room, his face red from anger. Or maybe frustration. But I couldn't care less. Not when he was mad that his son was finally paying for his crimes. "Catherine just developed a stroke. All because of you. You caused this upon us. You chose an outsider over your family. Over the company."I let out a slow breath, almost a laugh—low, humorless. Like he had just dropped the most baseless facts of the century."I caused this? Okay. But you think taking a title from me will make me back down from what I intended?" I asked quietly. "You think a chair and a name are enough to scare me into protecting a man who brutalized a woman?""Derek is your brother for fuck's sake!""He could as well be the maker of the Galaxy. I don't give a damn." I cut in. "You taught me that blood doesn't excuse betrayal and that weakness deserves consequences. Don't stand there now a

    >____I sat beside my husband, my hands folded in my lap, fingers trembling no matter how hard I tried to keep them still.Every sound in the courtroom felt too loud in my ears as I sat there. The shuffle of feet, the coughs, the soft murmur of people who didn't understand that my whole life was about to be ripped apart.Across the room, Ryker sat with Vanessa. Their faces blank.I didn't look at them for long. I couldn't.My eyes kept drifting back to the box.To my son.Derek stood there in that orange uniform, his shoulders hunched like a scared boy pretending to be a man. His face was thinner. His nose was bandaged. His eyes kept darting around the room, landing on me every few seconds like he was half-pleading for me to do something. My chest tightened.God... that was my baby.My heart began to pound so hard it hurt. I pressed my palm against my chest, breathing slowly, reminding myself to stay calm. I had to be strong. Mothers were supposed to be strong.B

    >____I listened with rapt attention as Ryker explained the situation to me. Leah and the others already left the room a while ago. Leaving Ryker and me alone in the ward as he recounted everything that had happened under my nose."So, yeah, I'm seeing this through." He concluded, caressing the back of my palm. I blinked. Once, then twice. Too stunned to come up with words. Ryker laughed like this was alright. "What? You look so cute with that expression on your face."I shook my head, snapping out of whatever muddled thoughts were spinning in my head. "Ryker, do you...know what this means for you? For the Hollands?" I asked, carefully. "Yeah. I get to lose the Holland groups and.." he shrugged lightly. "Maybe even be on bad terms with my dad for a couple of weeks. Months. Or maybe years whatever the case might be.""Ryker, I hate that you're about to fight with your family because of me." I whisper-yelled. My fear crept in. I didn't want to be the cause of the
