Davina

The drive home started out good and normal until the car stopped moving. I looked up and shook my head at what I saw.

There was traffic. Heavy one. The driver turned and took another route. I didn’t think much of it until I looked outside and recognized the area.

I remember here from when I was still working undercover as a secretary to Lawrence King. I have come here a few times. A smile crept up my lips when I remembered the day Alex slapped the food out of my hand. Thinking back now, I think he must have realized I was pregnant at that point and was only worried about my health and that of the babies.

I glanced at the kids. Elle was talking non-stop. Daniel was quiet as usual.

“Do you guys want to go somewhere?” I asked.

Daniel looked up. “Where?”

“Somewhere I used to go. You might like it.”

Elle sat up. “Yes!”

I asked the driver to stop at the corner. The old vendors were still there. Same stand. Same setup. It felt weird. Like three years had not passed.

The kids looke

Davina pov“Jane,” I called out to her with my hands still on the doorknob and she slowly raised her head. The lights were turned off and even the AC. I flipped the switch for the lights, and I saw her face clearly, but the only thing that made me worried was the look in her eyes. Her eyes were red-rimmed.“Did you cry?" I shut the door behind me and made my way to where she sat. “And why would you do that?" “Honestly, I feel like I'm a coward for what I did.” She fought back the tears that were threatening to come out of her eyes, her voice exposed her. “What did you do?" I asked with concern etched on my face and evident in my voice. “It's not like you committed a crime or something.”“What's with the sudden change?” I became confused just like her immediately she asked the question. She looked confused all the while though.“Sudden change?” I inquired as I loosed the hairband that held my hair behind. “If at all I've changed, I don't think it's sudden.“It's been four years si

Davina pov.“What did you tell him?" I came to a halt when I reached Alex, who was about to leave my office, and I rubbed my temples. “What did I tell you about taking him out of my office if you guys want to have your conversation?" His mouth parted, indicating that he was about to answer the first question I asked before I threw the second one at him.“About ten minutes ago, you acted like you were not concerned with anything that had to do with him," Alex leaned on the wall and folded his arms above his chest. “And now you're looking curious, care to tell me what happened?" “As you can see, I have a lot of work to do," I transferred my gaze from him to the heap of files that were in my hand. “So I don't have time for questions." “Then shouldn't you be doing that?" His brows furrowed, and his eyes were still on the files in my hand. “Trust me, you should be doing nothing else but that.”He was at it again, speaking to me with emotion in his voice, like he cared, only for him to a

Davina pov “You are what?!” I had no idea my eyes were shut and I questioned her again like I did not hear it the first time she said it. It was at that moment it dawned on me that, truly, the highest she did with men was commend them; she never talked about her love life with me. Was this the reason? Was she scared to tell me?“I'm sexually attached to women,” she spoke louder this time and I saw tears pricked at the corner of her eyes. “So you mean you're part of the LGBTQ+ community?” I asked with a hint of sarcasm in my tone. “Wow, just wow.” “Yeah, I expected this.” Her voice was barely above a whisper but firm and I watched as her face fell. “I knew you wouldn't be fine with it; that's why I tried to hide it for as long as possible.”If only, she knew I was not annoyed with her for being some sort of lesbian since I understood the LGBTQ+ spectrum. “What do you mean by that?” I played dumb but she was quick to notice. She just shook her head and tears rolled down her cheek.

Davina pov.Sebastian's gaze moved from me to Alex who was already seated on the edge of the table with his hands crossed above his chest and his face directed towards the ground. “I’m here to meet–”“I never asked you anything,” I cut him short and I clicked my tongue before turning back to Alex. “Hey,” I called to him, and he raised his head with a furrowed eyebrow, but I overlooked it. “I’m heading towards Mr. Hernandez’s office so when I'm out, lock the door and take this visitor somewhere else other than my office,” I added with a scowl before walking out of the office without sparing Sebastian a glance. As I walked away from the office, I felt Sebastian's eyes bore into me. I was not the type to think about what was not, so I turned back only to see that I was correct, and that irritated me the more, making me walk out of the building. “Alexander Campbells, Sebastian Campbell.” I exhaled towards the sky and I used my hand to shield my eyes from the sun. “Bunch of bastards.”

Davina pov.“You really wanted to pick up that call?” I retorted with a frown on my face as I watched Alex rub his temples with a look of disappointment that animated his face. “I did not tell you yesterday,” he replied softly as a heavy exhale escaped his nostrils. “I wanted to tell you about it, but you were nowhere to be found, and your number was not reachable.” “You wanted to tell me what?” I questioned with a furrowed eyebrow and rose to my feet, I could no longer hide the anger that was boiling in me. “Do you even think of telling me things before you do them?” Without giving him room to answer the first question, I threw another one at him and watched as he pushed his hair backward with his hand. “You don't understand, trust me,” he pressed his lips and our eyes locked. “After what happened yesterday at the rooftop, I knew–” He groaned as he picked up the phone from his pocket, and he swiped it to the right, and it connected. “Please give me a minute, I'll get back to yo

Davina povI walked down the hallway, and, just like every other day, heads bowed, and as I always do, I waved to them with a smile on my face, but today was different. “Good morning ma, I–" “I can't attend to anything now, please," I raised my hand, and the receptionist trailed off. “About thirty to forty minutes from now, you can come back please." “Sure, I'll do that, ma." She replied as she pushed her eyeglass above her nosebridge. “Thank you." I continued walking to my office without waiting to hear any other thing she had to say. It's not like she has something to say anyway. What happened between Sebastian, Courtney, Natalie, and me yesterday was something that I never wanted. The fact that she could still call me a whore, the fact that she still had no respect for me. It felt like what I did to her yesterday was not enough, like there was something I needed to do to her to make her shiver when she sees me. But that was the least of my worries. What kept me up throughou

Courtney pov“I think I made a mistake by walking into that place like that,” Courtney broke the silence that had taken over her and Natalie as they both sat in the taxi. “It was a rash move in which I shouldn't have made.” She gave a sigh that showed how disappointed she was. “You think you are wrong for walking into a conversation that your husband was involved in?” Natalie replied to her almost immediately and placed her head on the car seat. “If he's hiding something from you then he should just tell you right away.” “Same thing if he does not love you anymore; at least he should tell you rather than keeping you in the dark.” She muttered under her breath curtly. There was a moment of silence between the both of them and just as it began to stretch once more, the taxi driver spoke up. “We are here already.” With that, the both of them got out of the car, and Natalie handed him the money before they both made their way to the huge gate of the mansion. “Mom, about what you said

Jane pov.I turned back to look at the huge building once more and a sigh escaped my lips. “Tomorrow,” I muttered under my breath, and with that, I started the journey to my house on my feet. It would definitely be tomorrow, as I don't think that secret should be stretched further than that. I took a turn to my left only for me to see that the street I was about to enter was a dark and narrow one. Damn, I'm still traumatized by what happened to me fourteen years ago. Well, no one seems to be here this time. Just as I started to walk down the alley, a bright red light started glowing, but it was not electric or something. In the process of trying to figure it out, I saw the faces of some men whose faces looked hard, tough…and even scary. “Don’t you think you've made a mistake by walking into this place?” One of their voices trembled in the dark alley, causing me to take four steps backward, but I only came in contact with another rock-hard body of a taller one. “I-I’m sorry, I'll

Jane pov“What do you think they are talking about?" Davina's voice made me pause midway and after another glance at them, I dropped the glass in my hand. “There's only one way to find out," I muttered under my breath with my hand placed below my chin. “Do you want to know?" After a long stare at me, she nodded, unsure. “We both know I care less, so if you want to tell me, it's fine, and if you don't want to, it's still fine." Yeah, that was it, her reply was a testament that she cared little about what they were talking about. Sebastian and the so-called Alex to be precise. “Well, if you take about fifty steps forward, you should know," I replied to her before taking part of the content in the cup, but the look she gave me shrug. “I knew it was impossible for you to do that, so it was all a joke," I added with a smirk. “Whatever." And just like she always does, she waved her hand dismissively. For minutes, we both watched them talk, change of facial expressions and change of
