Chapter 294

Author: Summer Knowles
The smell of alcohol was thick in the air—he had been drinking.

She helped him sit on the sofa. His hand gripped her arm tightly, and he mumbled, “Sasa…”

"Why did you come to here? Why did you come looking for me?" she asked, knowing there wouldn't be an answer.

Zachary's brows furrowed slightly, as though he were having a nightmare, and he kept calling her name.

"Don’t break up..." he murmured.

Sarah turned her face away, unable to bear it, but his voice pierced her ears, and her heart ached with each word.

Suddenly, Zachary's phone rang. She didn't move, but when it rang a second time, she finally answered.

“Zac, why aren’t you picking up?"

It was Vivian!

Sarah froze, not knowing what to do—she couldn’t speak, but neither could she ignore it. As she hesitated, Vivian noticed.

"Who are you? Why are you holding Zachary’s phone?" Vivian’s voice was sharp.

Flustered, Sarah quickly replied, "He’s drunk," and immediately hung up.

It seemed that he hadn’t cleared things up wit

He had never imagined Vivian had committed this many cruel acts. This wasn’t one or two incidents—it was an entire trail of wrongdoing. If it were only the Michael Luther case, or even Tina’s situation, he might have found room to negotiate or argue for a reduced sentence. But with this many cases and a complete chain of evidence, there was nothing he could defend. When the court finally recessed, he was allowed a brief private meeting with Vivian.“Miss Wilson, things are looking extremely bad for you,” the attorney said.Vivian looked exhausted. Days of tension had pushed her nerves to the breaking point. Hallucinations and nightmares clung to her like shadows. Even in the courtroom earlier, she thought she saw a pale woman in the gallery—another with a disfigured face. She almost lost control, and only years of discipline kept her from collapsing.“Is there really no way to argue for innocence?” she murmured. The lawyer stared at her, stunned. “Absolutely not. Miss Wilson, wh

Mr. Hartman recovered first and let out a short laugh. “Since you’ve already dragged everything into the open, then we might as well tell the truth. Yes, two or three months ago, Director Churchill and I liquidated our shares. But the new owners gave us full proxy rights. In other words, we represent two actual shareholders. You have no authority to remove us from this meeting.”The room erupted. No one had expected the two men who had always appeared the most loyal to have secretly made the smartest move long ago.Mr. Churchill gave Henry a disdainful look. “The real issue here is you. As far as I know, you don’t hold a single Wilson Corp share. You have no right to question us. If anything, you’re the one who should be leaving.”Henry suddenly burst into laughter. “You still don’t get it?”He pulled two documents from his briefcase and tossed them on the table in front of Hartman.“Take a good look. These are the transfer agreements. The two shareholders you claim to represent a

“Can you send me a copy of everything?” Sarah asked quietly.Steven slid a USB drive across the desk. “Already prepared. It has Mr. Sanders’s full records, plus some photos and videos. I figured you’d want them.”Sarah’s fingers trembled as she took it. “Thank you.”“If you’re thanking anyone, thank Zachary,” Steven added. “He’s the one who told me to put it together.”Sarah glanced at Zachary. He didn’t say anything, only watched her with clear worry in his eyes.---Across the city, Wilson Corp felt almost hollow now. Most of the familiar faces were gone.Henry Wilson walked through the lobby with a new, arrogant confidence. Compared to a month ago, he now held a sizable amount of Wilson Corp’s shares. No one dared look down on him anymore. He had waited until Vivian was out of the picture before showing up.In front of Vivian’s assistant, Anthony, he boldly called for an emergency shareholders’ meeting. When he entered the conference room, the usual players were there—Mr.

Sarah had barely pulled into the driveway when her phone rang. It was Zachary. The moment she heard his voice, her expression tightened.“Melvin,” she said quickly, “don’t park. Turn around. We’re going to Reynolds Corp.”Melvin shot her a look. “Did Steven crack the phone?”Sarah nodded, tense. Zachary had already hung up, and her hand stayed clenched around the phone the entire ride. Her nerves twisted the closer they got. Whatever Steven recovered… it could change everything. Or it could lead nowhere.Heart pounding, she and Melvin pushed open Zachary’s office door. But Zachary wasn’t the one sitting at the desk.Steven was in his chair, eyes bloodshot, looking like he hadn’t slept at all. No doubt he’d been up all night repairing the phone. He rotated the computer monitor toward them. “Here. These are Mr. Sanders’s messages from that day.”Melvin could pull call logs on his own, but he hadn’t found anything abnormal in them.Sarah focused on the screen. Most of it was rout

Sarah let out a cold laugh. “I’ll be watching. Goodbye, Vivian.”She turned and walked away, leaving Vivian staring after her with hatred burning in her eyes. When Vivian sat curled up on the floor, dazed and shaking, a female officer walked over with a candle and lit it. Thin threads of smoke drifted through the air, carrying a strange, dreamy scent. The officer tucked the incense into a small, hidden corner, then stepped outside. She nodded to the woman waiting by the door. “The evidence chain is solid. There’s no way she’s getting out of this.”Sarah exhaled, her voice calm. “Then let it be for Tina. For Yvonne. For Judy. And for everyone else she hurt.”The officer’s expression softened. “Not for yourself?”Sarah froze. For a moment, she saw the girl she used to be. Then she gave a faint smile. “For myself too.”She left the building. Snow still clung to the branches outside, untouched by the weak winter sun. She pulled her coat tight and got into the warm car.Melvin hand

Vivian couldn’t hold it in anymore. The thought of spending the rest of her life locked away made her throat tighten until she could barely speak.“Please… please let me go…” she sobbed.Sarah’s eyes widened in disbelief. “That’s surprising. I didn’t think you were capable of saying something like that.”“You came here just to hear this, didn’t you?” Vivian let out a broken laugh. “Well, I’m saying it now. Isn’t that what you wanted?”Then, she suddenly dropped to her knees.“I’m begging you,” she cried. “My grandfather has no one. The hospitals refused to take us because of Zachary. Sarah, you’ve seen me fall apart. You’ve seen how miserable I am. So can you let me go? I’ll stay away from you and Zachary forever. I’ll disappear whenever I see you. You can have the entire Wilson Group if you want. Just… let me go.”She looked up at Sarah with desperate, pleading eyes. But Sarah only stood there, unmoving, glancing down at her the way someone would look at a stray dog.A cold la
