Chapter 30

Auteur: Summer Knowles
Sarah subtly shifted closer to the car door, keeping a respectful distance. Zachary, noticing her small move, narrowed his eyes slightly, then let it pass, knowing she tended to be reserved around unfamiliar people.

“Mr. Reynolds, are we headed to St Ritz Hotel?” the driver asked, glancing in the rearview mirror. He noticed Sarah’s effort to keep her distance and couldn’t help but add a note of respect to his tone.

St Ritz Hotel was Zachary's usual choice for business meetings, where he had a permanent private dining room.

Zachary considered for a moment before looking at Sarah. “Do you have any preferances, Miss Sanders?”

Caught off guard, Sarah paused, then replied, “If St Ritz is your usual spot, let’s go there. You’ve helped me a few times already, and today Mia’s been a huge help as well. This dinner can be my treat to thank you both.”

“Sasa! Sasa!”Sarah felt like she was trapped in a long, vivid dream. In it, she was once again traveling with her father—before she ever met Zachary, before life grew so complicated.Back then, it was just the warmth of her father’s care, their laughter echoing across sunlit roads. In the dream, she sat in the passenger seat beside him, cheerful music playing as they drove along. But suddenly, a truck came barreling toward them. The impact was suffocating. She was flung from the car, her body floating through the air. Through a haze, she saw her father still behind the wheel, head soaked in blood, smiling faintly at her.“No! No, please—!”She jolted awake, eyes blinking against the bright white ceiling.Zachary was sitting on the sofa nearby, looking at a tablet, exhaustion written all over his face.Sensing movement, he looked up—and saw her eyes open.He immediately put the tablet down and walked over to her bedside. “You’re awake. Do you want some water? The doctor said yo

A torrential downpour soaked the earth, the air thick with moisture.Dragging her suitcase behind her, Sarah Sanders walked slowly to the gravestone. Her fingers trembled as they brushed over the cold, etched photo. Tears welled up in her eyes.“Dad… it was my fault. She was right. Everything happened because of me. If I had never met Zachary… if Vivian hadn’t set his sights on me… if none of it had happened, maybe I could’ve come home and still heard you nagging me like always.”She set the suitcase aside and sat down directly on the rain-soaked ground, uncaring of the mud seeping through her clothes. A bottle of wine, bought from the foot of the mountain, was placed gently in front of the grave. She cried as she spoke, voice hoarse, “I deserve it. I really do. But please don’t blame me, Dad. I didn’t mean to miss your final moments. I passed out that day—I didn’t run away.”---Meanwhile, at the Sanders estate, Melvin was pacing anxiously, his voice rising in panic as he called

Hearing Cavin refer to Vivian in such a dismissive tone, no one looked more pleased than Kimberly. The once untouchable heiress of the Wilson family had finally fallen so low that others could now look down on her too.Vivian couldn’t take the humiliation any longer. It had been bad enough when it was just one-on-one, but now there were two more people there to watch her fall. She forced herself to stay composed. “Looks like you have more pressing matters, Mr.Hartman. I won’t keep you. We’ll talk another time.”Without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked away, her movements crisp and decisive—no hesitation, no fuss.Kimberly blinked sweetly. “Dad, Uncle Cavin, I’ll go see Miss Wilson out.”Before either man could say anything, she had already chased after Vivian.“Miss Wilson! Wait up!”Vivian pretended not to hear, quickening her pace instead of slowing down.Kimberly took a deep breath, threw her image to the wind, and broke into a run. She finally caught up and block

Cavin Hartman stood up without responding to her. He passed his cue to an attendant and turned to walk toward the lounge area.Vivian bit her lip as she watched his retreating back. Shame surged violently through her chest. She forced herself to swallow it down and followed, each step feeling heavier than the last.By the lounge chair stood a tall, elegant woman, dressed head-to-toe in designer labels. The moment Cavin approached, she stepped forward with a soft smile and handed him a pristine handkerchief.Vivian took in the scene, her eyes lingering on the woman for a moment longer.Cavin casually wiped his hands, then flopped into the chair and crossed his legs, letting out a sigh of satisfaction.Seeing that he clearly had no intention of acknowledging her, Vivian walked over and said gently, “Mr. Hartman, if you’re not in the mood to talk right now, I understand. I can wait until you’ve had a proper rest before discussing things.”Her tone couldn’t have been more humble—Cavi

That was already a vicious thing to say.Kimberly expected Vivian to blow up on the spot—or at the very least, fire back with a few sarcastic lines. But to her surprise, Vivian did get angry—only for a moment. She quickly collected herself, gave them a cold glance, and walked off as if nothing had happened.Kimberly felt her limbs go numb, the blood in her veins turning to ice.Vivian hadn’t said a word, yet from that one look, she’d felt it—the kind of contempt you’d give an insect. How dare she?The Wilson Group was on the verge of collapse. What did Vivian still have to be so smug about? One of the girls tugged at Kimberly’s sleeve and whispered, “Kimberly… you’re really just gonna let her go like that?”Kimberly’s expression darkened. She turned and shot the girl a glare. “What do you want me to do—chase her down and beat her up for you?”The girl let out an awkward laugh and shrank to the back, no longer daring to speak.Vivian might’ve just had a run-in with some nasty

Kimberly could barely stomach the memory of the way she used to trail behind Vivian, doing everything she could to please her.It might have been worth it if it had gotten her anywhere—but Vivian had never spared her so much as a glance. She didn’t even know her name.Eventually, Vivian decided Kimberly was too much of an eyesore—just another irrelevant hanger-on in her social circle—and the other heiresses started mocking her outright. Some even called her a mangy stray dog right to her face. That stretch of time had been pure hell. Kimberly lived in constant humiliation, while the woman she blamed for it all—Vivian—remained completely untouched. It was then Kimberly finally realized just how vast the gap between them really was. She stopped trying to cozy up to Vivian. But in her heart, resentment had already taken root. Now, as Vivian turned to walk away, clearly sensing the naked hostility in her gaze, Kimberly’s eyes flashed. She wasn’t about to let this rare opportunity sli
