Chapter 227

Author: Aurora Wells
I tried to comfort him. “Maybe when you’re older, your mom will start treating you better.”

Pierse clenched his fists until his knuckles cracked.

He looked at me with quiet despair. “She won’t. Because Moore Group is going to my brother. I don’t have any shares. To her, I’m just a burden.”

My heart ached. I could only try to soothe him.

He was still a kid, after all.

It didn’t take long before his mood started to settle.

“I’ll go back to school and study hard,” he said with determination. “One day, I’m going to prove to every single person who looked down on me wrong.”

I nodded. “Good.”

He looked at me for a long time, then suddenly dropped his head, voice thick with emotion. “You’re like my real sister, you know. I swear, one day I’ll repay you.”

I tried to smile and say something comforting, but my throat tightened and my nose began to sting.

The little boy who used to trail behind me, calling me “Eve” over and over again, had finally grown up.

He could see the truth now—he’d grow

Chloe’s face turned ghostly pale. “I fell... hit my stomach...”I quickly turned to Pierse. “Go get a doctor! Hurry! Run to the emergency room!”He froze for a moment, then took off sprinting down the hall.I held Chloe up, but she let out a sharp scream. I glanced down—between her pale legs, a thin stream of blood was slowly trickling down. She stared at me in shock. I stared back, just as stunned. Then came her shriek. “No! My baby!”She started flailing, desperate to get up.I was terrified, completely at a loss, but I knew she couldn’t be moved now.I pressed her down with both hands. “Don’t move. The doctor’s on the way. Just stay still, it might not be too late. Don’t move, don’t move…”Chloe sobbed uncontrollably. “I want my baby, I want my baby… Evelyn, you bitch! You did this to me! You killed my baby!”Her wild, frantic eyes locked onto mine, but I gritted my teeth and held her down.In just five minutes, she’d gone from screaming at me to begging me to save her. Finally, th

Pierse grew anxious. "Eve, this has nothing to do with you. Don’t cry."My eyes were rimmed with red. "Julian got stabbed... it was actually because of me...""What?!" Chloe suddenly burst out, her voice sharp. "It was you?!"Her sudden appearance startled me, and I instinctively stepped back several paces. She marched straight up to me, reaching out to grab me. "Speak clearly! Why did Julian get stabbed? Were you with him last night?!"The flickering emotions in her eyes made it obvious—she was thinking all the wrong things. But my mind was a mess. I couldn’t even begin to explain.I shook her off. "You heard wrong. I wasn’t with him."There was no way she’d believe me.She snapped, "Then explain why Julian was suddenly stabbed?"Pierse stepped in front of me protectively. "Evelyn would never hurt my brother. Don’t you dare throw baseless accusations."Chloe glared at him. "Get out of the way! The adults are talking—this doesn’t concern you."She shoved Pierse aside and fixed her eyes

Chloe’s belly was noticeably round as she said, her jealousy on full display, “Miss White, Julian doesn’t want to see you. Please leave.”Through the narrow space between them, I caught sight of Julian’s pale face as he slept.I moved my lips slightly. “As long as he’s okay.”I turned to leave.“Wait!” Abby called out.She stepped in front of me, sizing me up. “What are you doing in the hospital?”I looked away. “I’m sick.”She scoffed. “Tch. What bad luck. Honestly, Miss White, you say you’re divorcing my son, yet here you are putting on a show. Anyone who doesn’t know better would think you still have feelings for him.”Chloe stepped forward. “Mom, it’s only natural for her to still care. Evelyn used to love Julian so much. It’s just… not the right time for her to be here.”Abby gave her a cold glance. “Stop calling me ‘Mom.’ He hasn’t married you.”Chloe fell silent, eyes full of resentment as she stared at me.Seeing Julian resting, my heart eased a little. I was about to leave, b

Ian fell silent.Miles waved his hand dismissively. “Go get some rest.”I called out softly, “Miles…”He turned immediately, smiling gently at me. “It’s nothing. I just say a few more things, then I’ll come back to you.”With that, he shut the door. I could no longer hear what they were saying. It left me oddly uneasy.I was exhausted. Somewhere between half-asleep and half-aware, I felt someone gently tuck the blanket around me. Then, the softest kiss brushed against my forehead....I slept soundly through the night. When I woke up, all the fear and suffocation from the night before seemed to have vanished. I stared blankly at the ceiling, unsure if any of it had been real.It felt like a dream—terrifying, vivid, and distant.Ian came by again, this time bringing Mary along. She’d brought a nourishing soup for me.I asked, “How’s Trey?”Ian’s expression turned strange. “Miss White, it’s… best not to ask.”A chill went down my spine. The memory of how Miles had beaten Trey to a p

There were nurses and doctors outside the room—it wasn’t like they hadn’t noticed. But just like me, they were frozen in place, stunned by the sheer brutality Miles unleashed on his own brother. Finally, someone gathered the courage to intervene. They rushed forward, trying to pull him back, but Miles remained eerily calm. The hands that tried to tug at him barely budged him, forced instead to plead desperately for him to stop.I watched in horror as Miles tightened the tie around Trey’s neck, only to release it slightly when Trey was on the verge of blacking out—then pulled it tight again. It wasn’t rage.It was deliberate and controlled. Each time Trey came close to suffocating, Miles loosened it just enough to keep him conscious… then constricted again. He did it over and over until finally, Trey passed out.Only then did Miles let go.Doctors and nurses swarmed in with a loud flurry, rushing to revive Trey, his condition uncertain.Miles calmly gathered up his tie, looped it aro

I walked down the roadside in tears, one shoe lost along the way, the soles of my feet torn and bleeding.People glanced at me—my bloodied face, the stains on my clothes—but no one dared to come near. Some paused, looked like they wanted to ask something, then quickly backed away.I didn’t know where to go. I didn’t know who to call. I didn’t even know if there was anyone I could call.Julian was hurt. There’d been so much blood. But he told me to leave. He told me to go, not to let anyone see me.Eventually, I was too exhausted to keep moving. I collapsed onto the sidewalk and broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. Then the nausea came.I threw up until the world spun and everything inside me felt like it had been turned out.People passed by.I heard their voices.“Tch. Another one—drunk and dumped. Young women these days, no self-respect…”“Let’s go. She’s scary. Probably crazy or high…”Just when I thought I’d die crying on that godforsaken street, Trey showed up.His sports car s

Julian held me down, his voice laced with desperation. “Eve, stop. Please… stop. You’re bleeding…”But I couldn’t stop. I was past the point of no return. “You were working with Vaughn, weren’t you? You stole my money, didn’t you?! Moore Group didn’t collapse because of bad management—it was already under the Vaughns’ control, wasn’t it?!”His eyes shattered me.Because they confirmed everything. My instincts weren’t wrong. My memories weren’t lying.I had seen him—three years ago, at a bar—meeting with Tristan in secret.“Ah!” The pain tore through me as I dropped to my knees on the dirty pavement.Julian lunged forward, wiping at my face in a panic. “Eve, you’re bleeding. Why are you bleeding? Please, stop crying. I’ll take you to a doctor, okay?”I saw it—his hands smeared with blood.Blood?Where did it come from?In a daze, I touched my nose. My fingertips came away soaked in warmth.I stared up at Julian with empty eyes.He was frantic now, trying to lift me up. “Come on, I’ll

He tugged angrily at my cropped top and the barely-there skirt, like he was venting all his rage through his hands.Humiliation burned through me.The outfit was flimsy to begin with, and he nearly yanked it off entirely by pulling it.I scrambled to hold it in place, barely managing to stop myself from being exposed.“Julian Moore, have you lost your damn mind?!” I shouted. My voice caught the attention of a few guys loitering at the mouth of the alley. They whistled and snickered, clearly amused. They didn’t think much of it—this was a bar district after all, and drunk couples getting handsy was nothing new here.I instantly clamped my mouth shut and shoved Julian hard. “Let go of me. I... I have friends here.”His fury simmered down just enough for him to sneer, pinning my wrists and legs against the wall. “Friends? What kind of friend drags you into a place like this? Evelyn, I really thought you’d changed. But you’re still the same.“You follow me around, trying to control me. D

Tristan narrowed his eyes, the chill in that sly, fox-like gaze impossible to miss.He gave a lazy smile. “Oh? A new face. Haven’t seen you before. Come here, let me have a look.”I froze, then started trembling even harder. The duty manager quickly stepped in front of me, bowing repeatedly. “Sir Tristan, she’s new and doesn’t know the rules. We’d hate for her to offend you by accident.”Tristan didn’t even glance at her. His smile deepened as his gaze locked on me. “Offend me? She hasn’t even done anything yet. Come here.”Those two words were spoken lightly, almost playfully, but carried a weight that left no room for refusal.Julian looked over at me, the urgency in his eyes only making everything feel more dangerous.I moved slowly, hesitantly.Tristan gave me a quick once-over, then let out a barely interested hum.“What’s your name?”Panic scrambled my thoughts. My eyes darted around. “Uh… Apple.”My gaze had landed on the fruit plate on the table.Tristan followed my line of si
