"Are you sure you're fine?" I asked again for the fifth time since we arrived at Owen's office.

"I'm fine, thanks." She replied almost immediately, her voice tight and barely above a whisper.

I tried hard not to stare at her but I couldn't help it, my mind kept eating me up for bringing her here with me.

I could see her hands trembling slightly by her sides and I couldn't help but notice she was uneasy.

I shouldn't have been so focused on getting to Owen that I didn't see how this place would affect her.

“Look, Owen isn't here yet,” I said, keeping my voice low and gentle so I wouldn't startle her. “We can leave. We don’t have to wait. We can come back later, or I can just handle this another time.”

I waited, watching her face. Her eyes, which had been fixed on a point somewhere on the expensive Persian rug, finally lifted to meet mine. They were wide and dark, still holding that flicker of fear, but beneath it, I saw a stubborn resolve.
