Chapter 4

Author: Peachy
"Enough!"

An old but commanding voice cut through the crowd. Ethan's mother, Eleanor Stone, walked onto the stage, leaning on her cane.

"Regina, you have brought enough shame to the Stone family!" Eleanor struck the ground hard with her cane. "An outsider with an impure bloodline, daring to cause trouble at the sacred full moon celebration!"

The pack members around immediately chimed in.

"Eleanor's right! Regina was never fit to be Luna!"

"Her bloodline is too common; she could never bring strong offspring to the Stone family!"

"Look at Miss Scarlett, that's a true noble bloodline!"

Ethan nodded proudly. "My mother is right. Regina, the Stone Pack's power today is all thanks to the strength of Scarlett's family bloodline."

"Bloodline strength?" I scoffed.

"Of course!" Ethan spread his arms, gesturing to the allied packs around. "Since I met Scarlett, our allies have grown, our strength has increased. This is the power of a pure-blooded wolf!"

Scarlett lowered her head shyly, but her eyes glinted with triumph. "Ethan, you're too kind... I just hope to contribute to the pack..."

She paused, her voice laced with feigned concern. "Actually, I've always been worried... Caleb has been too sheltered by Regina, sister. He hasn't had real Alpha training. If this continues..."

"What are you worried about?" Ethan frowned.

"I'm worried Regina's way of raising him will weaken Caleb's wolf instincts," Scarlett said carefully. "A child needs tough training, not motherly coddling. Of course, Caleb is so smart entirely because he inherited your excellent genes..."

Eleanor nodded emphatically. "Scarlett's right! Regina, you've made my grandson too soft! How can a future Alpha be so gentle?"

Ethan's face grew grim. "No wonder he didn't dare attend the coming-of-age ceremony last night! Regina, what exactly have you turned my son into?"

I looked at these hypocritical faces, the anger inside me churning like lava.

"You want to know what I turned him into?" My voice was low and dangerous. "I taught him to respect his father, I taught him to train hard, I taught him to push himself to make you proud!"

"Push himself to be strong?" Ethan sneered. "If he was really strong, why wouldn't he attend the ceremony?"

"Because you didn't give a damn about his ceremony last night!" I finally exploded. "You only cared if your mistress was comfortable, if she was fed, if she needed more guards to protect her!"

The hall fell dead silent.

Ethan's face instantly turned ashen. "What did you say?"

"I'm telling the truth!" I pointed at Scarlett. "Last night was her heat, and you took all the elite guards to protect her while she hunted, leaving Caleb to face the dangers of his coming-of-age ceremony alone!"

Scarlett hid behind Ethan, frightened. "I... I didn't ask for so many guards... It was Ethan who was worried about me and the baby..."

"Of course, I have to protect you!" Ethan roared angrily. "You are my real family! As for Caleb..."

He paused, his voice turning ice-cold. "If he can't even handle a basic coming-of-age ceremony, then he proves he's not fit to be the heir of the Stone family!"

Sounds of agreement rose from the crowd.

"The Alpha is right! Survival of the fittest!"

"True strength doesn't need coddling!"

"Maybe this is for the best; Miss Scarlett's child is more suited to be heir!"

Eleanor struck the ground again with her cane. "Regina, since you're so unhappy, then break the bond and get out of the Stone family! But..."

She narrowed her eyes, her voice full of menace. "Caleb must stay. He is of Stone family blood. You won't take him anywhere!"

"That's right!" Ethan sneered, walking towards me. "Regina, I can agree to break our bond. But Caleb belongs to the Stone family, don't you dare try to take him!"

I clutched the ebony box tightly, looking at these greedy, ugly faces.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" My voice was terrifyingly calm.

"Of course!" Ethan announced proudly. "Now, in front of all our allies, hand over Caleb! I want to personally see where he's hiding and slacking off!"

I slowly raised the ebony box in my hands.

"As you wish."

"This is the Caleb you're looking for."

One year later."Mom! Quick, look! The waves are huge!"Eighteen-year-old Caleb was running on the beach, sunlight dappling his healthy skin. The Hawaiian sea breeze rustled his hair, and his laughter rang out, clear as a bell."Careful! Don't run too fast!" I laughed, chasing after him with the sunscreen."Mom, can we go snorkeling?" Caleb pointed excitedly at the coral reef in the distance. "I want to see sea turtles!""Of course, sweetie." I helped him put on sunscreen. "But be careful, don't swim out too far.""I know." Caleb nodded obediently, then suddenly threw his arms around me. "Mom, thank you for bringing me to Hawaii. It's so beautiful here."I gently stroked his hair. "Silly boy. This is where you always wanted to come.""Yeah!" Caleb let go and started running on the sand again. "Mom, when I learn how to surf, I'll teach you, okay?""Okay..." I watched his bright, sunny smile, and tears welled up in my eyes."Mom? Why are you crying?" Caleb ran back, looking at me with co

"Wait! Regina!"Eleanor, leaning on her cane, trembled as she approached me. "You can't just leave! You're still the Luna of the Stone family! You're my son's wife!"I stopped and looked back at the deceitful old woman."Luna? Wife?" I chuckled. "Eleanor Stone, weren't you just saying my bloodline wasn't pure enough for your family?""That... that was a misunderstanding..." Eleanor's voice trailed off. "We can start over...""Start over?" I glanced at Ethan, who was staring at me in terror. "Didn't your precious son just break our mate bond?"The surrounding pack members began to murmur uneasily. They were starting to realize how serious things were.Maverick King himself called me "Your Highness." What did that mean?"Maverick King," Marcus, the Alpha of the Redwood Pack, asked cautiously, "excuse me... but what is Miss Regina's true identity?"Maverick turned to face everyone, his voice ringing out."Allow me to introduce Regina Winters, sole inheritor of North America's most ancient

Ethan stared at Ryan's bloody wolf head, his face white as a sheet. But the next second, he spun around, his finger shaking as he pointed at me. "It was her! Regina made him do it!"Dead silence."What?" Maverick narrowed his eyes."Ryan always listened to Regina!" Ethan's voice was sharp with fear. "He would never act on his own! It must have been this vicious woman, trying to get revenge on me, deliberately sending Ryan to provoke you!"I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This man’s shamelessness had hit a new low.Eleanor immediately chimed in, "Yes! It was Regina! She's jealous of Scarlett, so she deliberately tried to destroy our Stone Pack!""Regina has always been a malicious schemer!""She must want Maverick King to wipe us out!""This woman is too dangerous!"To save their own skins, the surrounding pack members all started accusing me. Even the Alphas from the allied packs began to distance themselves:"We warned Ethan long ago that Regina was trouble!""A she-wolf like th

Under the moonlight, a tall figure slowly approached the celebration. He wore a long black coat, his silver hair gleaming in the moonlight. Even before he fully stepped into the firelight, all the werewolves could feel the suffocating pressure."Maverick King..." someone whispered, trembling."The Night Hunter... what's he doing here?""Did we do something wrong?"Fear spread through the crowd.Maverick King, Valerius, leader of the supernatural council, a hybrid of vampire and wolf, the Night Hunter known for his ruthlessness.Even the oldest vampires treated him with awe.But Ethan actually smiled smugly."Everyone, don't be nervous," he said loudly, pulling Scarlett closer. "It's an honor for the Stone Pack that Maverick King himself would attend our celebration!"He turned to me, his eyes full of showing off. "Luna, see that? This is what real power looks like! Even Maverick King has to come and congratulate our new Luna!"Scarlett "shyly" hid in Ethan's arms. "Really? That legenda

"What do you mean?" I turned around, looking at Ethan coldly.Ethan gave Scarlett a deep look, then stood up and faced everyone."My allies, please witness this historic moment." His voice boomed across the area. "Tonight, I'm going to right a wrong."He walked over to Scarlett and pulled her to his side. "All this time, I haven't been able to give Scarlett the status she deserves because I was tied to a past mate bond. But now, the Moon Goddess has shown me the way.""Ethan..." Scarlett lowered her head "shyly." "Are you sure? Isn't this... unfair to Regina?""Stop thinking about her," Ethan gently stroked Scarlett's cheek. "Your kindness is why I love you."Voices of encouragement rose from the crowd:"It's time, Alpha!""Miss Scarlett has waited long enough!""Pure blood deserves proper status!""Give her the mark she deserves!"Eleanor clapped excitedly. "Yes! My son, show everyone who the real Luna of the Stone Pack is!"Ethan nodded, then, in front of everyone, roughly tore open

The sound of wailing echoed through the whole celebration.Ethan looked like he’d been struck by lightning, swaying on his feet. Eleanor’s cane clattered to the ground."No... no... my grandson..." Eleanor sank to the ground, her voice hoarse."Caleb... my son..." Ethan’s voice broke as he fell to his knees before the altar stone. All the werewolves were wailing, crying for the loss of a young life. It's in their nature—when a cub in the pack dies, all the wolves feel the pain. But just then, Scarlett suddenly rushed to Ethan."It's all my fault!" she sobbed, throwing herself into Ethan’s arms. "If I hadn't asked for so many guards... if I wasn't so needy for protection... Caleb wouldn't have...""No, it's not your fault," Ethan held her tight, his voice trembling but firm. "It's definitely not your fault."I watched that awful pair, feeling nothing at all.Scarlett cried even harder. "But... but if I wasn't pregnant... if I didn't need to be taken care of...""Listen to me." Ethan str
