Amelia’s POV

The next morning, I found Rowan and Liam already at the breakfast table, chatting away as if yesterday’s disaster never happened.

Their laughter stung. I felt like an intruder in their perfect little bubble.

"Morning," I muttered, dragging my feet into the kitchen.

Liam’s head snapped toward me, his eyes lighting up with mischief.

"Morning, Stinky Fish!" he announced proudly, his grin wide enough to split his face.

Heat rose to my cheeks. I opened my mouth to respond, but Rowan’s voice cut in sharp as a whip. "Liam! I told you, no more humiliating Amelia."

‘A little late for that, Rowan,’ I thought bitterly.

"But it’s just a nickname, Daddy," Liam protested with false innocence, widening his eyes. "Nicknames mean you like someone."

"Not when they’re cruel," Rowan said firmly, glaring down at his son.

Liam slouched back in his chair, muttering, "She’s too sensitive anyway."

I bit the inside of my cheek and busied myself at the coffee machine, making my brew strong enough

Amelia’s POVI blinked in pleasant surprise. "Dr. Brooks! I didn’t expect to see you here. You don’t really strike me as the… going-out type."He chuckled. "Even therapists have a life, Amelia. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t live entirely on herbal tea and introspection."I laughed softly. "That’s good to know. For what it’s worth, your advice has actually helped me. I’ve… been dealing with things better lately."His eyes softened, the corners crinkling behind his glasses. "I’m really glad to hear that. That’s all I ever hope for. Progress, not perfection."We kept chatting as he walked with me toward my booth. He was easy to talk to—grounded, calm. But the moment I looked up at my table, the air froze in my lungs.Sitting in the chair I was in just minutes ago… was none other than Rowan Lancaster. My heart started pounding uncontrollably. God, somehow this man had gotten even hotter since I’d last seen him. Or maybe that was just because I’d missed him so much. Because I’d been

Rowan’s POV"Liam?! Where are you?" My voice echoed through the house, edged with irritation and exhaustion. "Come on, we’re late. I need to get to the office, buddy!"Nothing. Just the hum of the heating system and the faint tick of the grandfather clock in the hall.Every day since Amelia had left had been a disaster. I was running on caffeine and guilt, stumbling through routines that used to feel effortless. Now, even getting Liam dressed felt like climbing a mountain with a broken leg.At least school had started again, so finding babysitters wasn’t an issue I had to deal with anymore.I rubbed my temples. "Liam, I swear, if you’re hiding again—"A soft giggle drifted from down the hall. The laughter led me to the narrow corridor near the west wing, where the painting hung. The one leading to… the sex room. "Are you fucking kidding me?" I muttered under my breath, striding toward the sound. When I rounded the corner, I found Liam standing right in front of the painting, his tin

Amelia’s POVWhen I got to the office a little later, Tristan was there, sleeves rolled up, supervising the last of the renovations. As soon as he saw me, his face lit up. "Amelia, hey," he said, brushing the dust off his hands as he walked toward me.I felt my stomach tighten but remembered one of Dr. Brooks’ techniques. Pause. Breathe. Don’t react. So I stopped, closed my eyes for a brief moment, and focused on my breath. Slow, deep inhales, steady exhales. I pictured the air traveling through my body, grounding me.When I opened my eyes again, Tristan was staring at me, eyebrows raised. "You okay? What are you doing?""Breathing," I said simply. He blinked. "Oh. Right… breathing." He gave a small, uncertain laugh. "We’re all doing that, aren’t we?""Not always consciously," I replied, keeping my tone even.He tilted his head, amused. "Well, look at you. Zen master Amelia."When I finally felt centered, I looked him squarely in the eyes. To my surprise, the usual charge between us w

Amelia’s POVThe man’s head snapped up at the sound of my heels on the pavement. For a heartbeat, his face lit up."Liz, finally," he said, stepping forward. But as soon as he saw me clearly, the hope drained from his expression. His shoulders slumped. "Oh… it’s you."Relief flooded through me so fast I almost laughed. "Thank God," I breathed. It wasn’t Rowan. It was that guy from the bar—the one Liz and I practically sprinted away from. What was his name again? The man raised an amused brow. "Are you… happy to see me, then?""Not exactly," I said, trying to move past him. "I just thought you were—never mind. Doesn’t matter."He folded his arms, blocking my path with a cocky tilt of his chin. "Ah. So both you and Liz are avoiding a man, huh?"I frowned. "That’s none of your business. Now, please move. I’d like to go inside."He didn’t budge. "Not until you tell me when Liz is coming home."I let out a sharp, incredulous laugh. "Oh, hell no. You’re giving off serious weirdo-stalker vi

Amelia’s POVThe next morning, I was trying to balance in what could only be described as a half-collapsed downward dog, when Liz came in.She leaned against the doorway, watching me."Okay, I’m officially intrigued," she said, raising a brow. "What’s gotten into you, yoga girl?""Doctor’s orders," I muttered, peeking up at her from between my legs, my hair falling in a mess around my face. She burst out laughing. "Doctor’s orders? You mean Mr. Sexy Shrink?"I rolled my eyes, sitting back on my heels. "It’s Dr. Brooks, thank you very much. And yes, I saw him yesterday.""Oooh, so that’s what the new calm, glowy energy is," she said dramatically, taking a sip of her coffee. "What did he do? Hypnotize you? Whisper affirmations in a smooth, husky voice?""Very funny," I said, grabbing a cushion from the couch to throw at her. "No, he… actually helped. Kind of."Liz grinned. "Define kind of."I hesitated, trying to find the right words. "He made me realize I’ve been spending so much time

Amelia’s POVAt Liz’s that evening, I collapsed onto her couch with a heavy sigh. She handed me a glass of wine and sank down beside me. "You look like you’ve been through the wringer. What happened?"I let out a shaky breath. "Where do I even start? I told Rowan I wanted to break up, moved out of his office, his home, his life…""Oh, babe." Liz immediately wrapped an arm around me, her voice softening.I blinked hard, trying to hold back the tears stinging my eyes. "He—he said he loved me, Liz. Out of nowhere. And I just… pushed him away."Her head snapped toward me. "He told you he loved you?!""Yeah." I gave a helpless laugh that sounded more like a sob. "After everything we’ve been through, he drops that bomb and expects me to know what to do with it."Liz’s eyes widened. "Wow. That’s… huge, Amelia.""Tell me about it," I murmured, rubbing my forehead. "That man confuses me more at every damn turn."Liz squeezed my shoulder. "Sounds like he’s finally realizing what he stands to lo
