Chapter 4

Autor: Lovely Little Mom
The next morning, I went to work as usual.

As soon as I entered the lobby, Sonya's assistant hurried over. She looked flustered.

"Mr. Latham, you're here."

"Where's Sonya?" I asked as I headed toward my office.

"Ms. Slade is…" The assistant stumbled over her words. "She's in her office discussing work."

I stopped. "With whom?"

"With the new assistant, Mr. Hunt," she replied reluctantly.

Mr. Hunt? Did she mean Simon?

So Sonya wasn't just using my money to support him. She had even brought him into my company.

"When did he start?" I asked, my voice hard.

"Just the day before yesterday. Ms. Slade personally arranged a special hire through HR. She said…she said the company needed him."

I sneered. I wondered what kind of business she had in mind!

I asked no more questions and headed straight for Sonya's office.

"Mr. Latham, please don't…"

Sonya's assistant tried to stop me, but she had no chance.

I shoved the door open.

Two people were tangled up on the office couch.

Simon had his arms around Sonya, who was sitting on his lap. They were wrapped around each other, and his hand was slipping under her shirt.

The door startled them, and they scrambled apart.

Simon yelped and hurriedly straightened his rumpled clothes, then ducked behind Sonya.

Sonya looked just as panicked. She had even buttoned her shirt wrong. Her face still showed traces of desire, mixed with anger at being caught.

"Mitchell, what the hell are you doing? Don't you know how to knock?" she snapped.

I was so furious I almost laughed.

I flung the office door wide open so everyone outside could see exactly what was going on.

"Have you lost your mind?" Sonya rushed over to shut the door. "You may not care about your reputation, but I do!"

With a loud smack, I struck her across the face.

"Where was your concern for your reputation when you were fooling around in the office?" I asked.

The slap left Sonya stunned. She covered her cheek and stared at me in disbelief.

I walked past her and headed straight for Simon, who was cowering in the corner.

"Mitchell… I…" Tears filled Simon's eyes as he tried to make himself look like the victim.

I slapped him across the face, too. He staggered back and nearly fell.

"That one's for knowingly sleeping with a married woman. Have you no shame?" I shouted.

"Mitchell, how dare you hit him?" Sonya rushed over to shove me.

Just then, a loud voice rang out. "Sonya, where's my money?"

Mildred had arrived. She stormed toward us, ready to confront Sonya about the money.

But the moment she entered and saw Sonya and Simon with their clothes in disarray, she froze.

"Mom, what are you doing here?" Sonya asked.

Mildred was livid. "So that's where the money went! You've been throwing it all away on this bastard!"

She shoved Sonya aside, rushed at Simon, and grabbed him by the hair.

"You shameless bastard! How dare you seduce Sonya and take her money?"

"Help! Sonya, help me!" Simon cried as Mildred yanked his hair. His face was twisted in pain.

Sonya tried desperately to pull Mildred away, but Mildred clawed and scratched at her, too.

"Mom, let go! We're just friends!" Sonya screeched.

That only made Mildred even angrier. "You give your own mother just 1000 dollars a month, but you spend over 20,000 dollars on a friend?"

As she spoke, Mildred spotted the luxury watch on Simon's wrist. Her eyes widened with rage, and she lunged at him to rip it off.

"You used Sonya's money to buy yourself fancy things. Take it off!"

Simon clutched onto his watch for dear life and fought back as they wrestled.

Sonya stood nearby, desperately trying to break up the fight.

Suddenly, Sonya went pale. She clutched her stomach and groaned painfully, "My stomach hurts so bad!"

Simon and Mildred both froze in shock.

Sonya broke out in a cold sweat, and a bright red stream of blood ran down her legs.

"Sonya, what's wrong?" Mildred cried.

Sonya clutched my pant leg and pleaded in a trembling voice. "Honey, the baby… Please save our baby…"

  • After My Wife Gave Our Neighbor a Ride, I Divorced Her   Chapter 9

A month later, Shackleton was deep into its rainy late autumn. Cold rain tapped against the floor-to-ceiling windows, blurring the lights outside.I sat beside the warm fireplace with my golden retriever, Bobby, lying at my feet. The doorbell rang for a long time before I finally sent the housekeeper to answer it.Sonya stood outside, soaked to the skin and looking utterly miserable. She had grown so thin that she was barely recognizable. Her eyes were sunken, and her hair was a mess. When she saw me, a spark of hope lit up her dull eyes. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground. "Mitchell! Mitchell, I'm sorry. I know I messed up!"She tried to crawl toward me, but the housekeeper stopped her."Mitchell, please forgive me! Simon is a liar. He had an STI for a long time, and I lost the baby. He had been lying to me the whole time!"Sonya's voice was hoarse with despair.Just a week earlier, Simon had stolen the last of Sonya's personal savings. She had borrowed that

Three days later, Sonya came to see me.She looked much worse than before. Several scratches still marked her face, souvenirs from the fight at the hospital that day."Mitchell, we should sign the divorce papers as soon as possible," she said. She avoided my gaze, sounding uneasy.I raised an eyebrow and set down my coffee. "What? You saw those photos and still put up with him?"A flash of embarrassment crossed Sonya's face, but it soon gave way to an almost stubborn resolve."Simon explained everything to me. Those things happened in the past. Everyone had a past, right?"She took a deep breath, as if trying to convince me, though she seemed to be trying to convince herself more."He said the other person faked those chat records just to show off. Besides, I'm carrying his child.""So?" I gave her a faint, knowing smile. "You've forgiven him?""Mitchell, you know Mom has always wanted a grandchild." Sonya looked miserable. "Simon is the baby's father, and he's been emotional

Simon stayed at the hospital to take care of Sonya. When I went to see her, Sonya was propped up in bed, eating a bowl of dessert. As I entered the room, Simon deliberately caressed her still-flat belly, his gaze challenging me."Mitchell, I'm sorry you had to spend so much. Sonya said you had this dessert sent over just for her? Honestly, I'm not picky. As long as it's from Sonya, I'll love it."I showed no reaction. Before I could even say a word, Sonya hurried to intervene. She was afraid Simon would upset me and ruin our fake divorce."Simon!" she scolded him sternly. "Mitchell is doing this for us and for the greater good. You should be grateful!"Simon froze. He never expected Sonya, who usually gave him everything he wanted, to snap at him for my sake.Tears welled up in his eyes almost immediately. "Sonya, how dare you yell at me? Are you still hung up on this infertile guy?"He shouted, "Fine! If you're going to keep taking his side, then I'm leaving!"With that, he m

Three years ago, I was badly hurt in a car accident. It was late at night, and I was trapped inside the car, unable to move. The pain had been unbearable.I called Sonya for help. However, she thought calling an ambulance was too much trouble. She was also worried about being late to meet an important client, so she said she'd come get me herself.Halfway there, she got a call from the client. He wanted to grab a late-night bite and asked her to come along.By then the pain in my lower body had become so intense that I'd lost all feeling. I was also barely conscious.I sent her a voice message, begging her, "Sonya, I don't think I can hang on anymore. Please take me to the hospital first."Instead, she replied with a voice message of her own. She sounded annoyed."That client is someone I've worked hard to keep for a long time! Stop being so dramatic. A few injuries aren't going to kill you!"Then she turned the car around and went to eat with the client.I spent two agonizi

Mildred and I both froze at Sonya's words.Mildred's anger instantly turned to delight. "A baby? Sonya, you're pregnant?"Sonya was rushed to the hospital.Outside the ER, Mildred paced back and forth, muttering, "I hope it's a boy."When Simon saw me, he huddled in a corner without saying a word. Sonya was wheeled out in a hospital bed, her face pale. The doctor came out and removed his mask. "The patient has signs of a threatened miscarriage. She needs complete bed rest. Fortunately, you brought her in just in time."At that, Mildred clasped her hands and murmured a prayer of thanks. Sonya also breathed a sigh of relief.Seeing how relieved Sonya was, I felt a slight pang in my chest. Then the feeling faded, leaving no emotions behind."Sonya," I called out to her calmly.Sonya looked up in a panic and reached for my hand, but the hardened look in my eyes made her pull back."Mitchell, I…"I cut her off and looked at her belly without emotion. "Now that there's a baby invo
