“Elara!"

Hearing Kael's voice echo through the stone corridor, my whole body stiffened.

I raised my eyes and only then realized I was standing outside the Moon Temple.

The night before Blood Moon. I was back.

Another raw growl tore through the corridor outside my door, pulling me completely out of my daze.

I recognized that sound very well.

In my previous life, hearing the Alpha in this state, I had rushed to him without a second thought.

The moment he pinned me against the temple, I had melted into his heat and allowed him to claim me right there.

This time, I would not be his fool.

I pushed open my door and walked down the corridor. The moment I stepped into the Moon Temple, the sharp scent of Silver Fern burned my throat.

He was slumped against the altar, his body shaking, his eyes red and unfocused.

"Elara." He reached out a hand toward me.

The familiar burning in my chest urged me to step forward, but I forced my feet to stay rooted. Before the heat could overwhelm my senses, I clutched my collar shut with one hand and gripped the edge of the door with the other.

"I will bring my sister to you," I said flatly, and pulled the door shut between us.

I leaned back against the solid wood and ignored the furious roar that followed. Only when the lock clicked into place did I finally exhale.

Just then, I turned my head and saw my sister descending the temple steps, her moonstone bonding gown trailing silently behind her.

I stepped forward and intercepted her path before she could reach the bottom stair. "He is waiting for you inside. Go to him."

Serena's eyes flicked to my collar, then to my neck. When she found no mark and no scent of him on my skin, the tension in her shoulders eased.

A slow smile touched her lips.

She reached past me and wrapped her fingers around the heavy door handle.

"Don't worry. I will take good care of your Alpha."

The door swung open. The thick scent of Silver Fern poured into the corridor, and Serena stepped inside without hesitation.

Almost immediately, a breathy moan echoed from the other side of the wood.

"Alpha...take all of me." Serena's voice drifted through the door, thick with satisfaction.

Hearing her sounds of pleasure, a bitter chill spread through my chest.

In my past life, three days after that night, the patrol had dragged Serena's body from the Silver Lake. She had been carrying the Alpha's first heir when she drowned.

The pack had been on the verge of collapse without an heir or a Luna. To maintain stability, the elders had pressured him into marrying me instead.

On our wedding night, he had gripped my chin and sneered, "Are you satisfied now?"

For thirty years after that, he never marked me. He never shared our bed again. He never gave me the Luna's power or a single ounce of his respect.

Every full moon, he would disappear into the woods alone, mourning her. Every anniversary of her death, he would sit at her grave until dawn, ignoring my existence entirely.

When I bore him a daughter years later, he took one look at the child and walked out of the room. He did not return for three months.

I had spent decades trying to earn a love that had died with my sister in that lake. I had cooked his meals, managed his household, and healed his wounds, all while he looked through me as if I were a ghost haunting his life.

And on my deathbed, as my breath rattled in my chest and my body withered away, he leaned down. I thought he was finally going to say the words I had waited thirty years to hear. An apology.

Instead, he whispered, word by word, "I wish I had never met you."

It was only then that I realized he had never stopped loving Serena. So this time, I let her have him.

I turned away from the temple doors and walked back to my chambers.

The moment I sat on the edge of my bed, my phone buzzed on the nightstand.

"Miss Elara? I’m Beta Kane, from the Blackwood Territory. I am calling regarding your application for the Head Cook position."

"The position requires you to relocate immediately. The work is demanding, you would be away from your home pack permanently, and you will have to give up your rank as Shadow Luna. Are you still interested?"

I looked out the window at the Moon Temple, where the scent of Silver Fern was finally fading.

"I am interested. I will report in seven days."

Later, I heard that Kael had tried everything to recover from the drug's effects. He brought in healers from every territory, searched for every known cure, but nothing worked. Then the pack elders brought Serena to him, hoping she could soothe his heat like before. But it didn't work. Kael used her so brutally that by the time they found her, she was barely alive. The child she was carrying didn't survive.I didn't bother digging for details. I just went on with my life. After that, the Crestfall elders stripped Kael of his Alpha position and cast him out of the pack. No one ever heard from him again.Over the following weeks, Adrian continued to meet me.Though he never said anything directly, it wasn't hard to see his growing interest. He started finding reasons to be near the kitchen, lingering after meals, asking about my day, remembering small details I mentioned in passing.I knew we were fated mates. The bond between us hummed quietly beneath every interaction, growing stronger

I had just finished separating the wolfberry stems when hurried footsteps echoed from the corridor. A palace servant appeared in the doorway, her face pale, practically running."Miss Elara, Prince Adrian has suddenly fallen ill. The healers are struggling to stabilize him."My stomach dropped.Grabbing my apron, I abandoned what I was doing and followed her.The corridor outside Adrian's chambers was in chaos. Guards lined the walls while servants crowded the entrance, their faces tight with fear. Inside, healers moved frantically around the bed where Adrian lay, his skin ashen, his breathing shallow and uneven.Studying his condition, I realized quickly that ordinary treatment was not working. Whatever was affecting him had settled deep into his wolf, and the healers' remedies were barely touching it."Let me prepare something for him."One of the healers turned to me with visible frustration. "The best healers in the territory have already failed. How can food possibly help?"Despit

But it seemed Kael didn’t understand rejection. He shook his head and said, "No, I can't let you go. We've been together for so many years. You once said you'd love me for the rest of your life. Why are you leaving me now?"I realized then that he was still clinging to the very history I had spent a lifetime trying to escape. He reached for my arm, but I pulled away before his fingers could touch my skin."I did love you once. But that love died long before I left the pack.""I know you better than anyone, Elara. You cannot possibly have stopped loving me so quickly."His certainty almost made me laugh. He had spent years failing to understand the woman standing beside him, yet he still believed he knew her heart better than she did."What exactly do you expect me to love, Kael? The empty marriage? The Shadow Luna title? The years I spent begging for scraps of your affection?"His expression faltered. He had no answer that could undo what I had endured. Just then, he gripped his arms,

When I arrived in Blackwood territory, I chose a cozy place to settle in.The view was nothing short of breathtaking. I opened the curtains to the sight of clear blue skies stretching over the mountains. The snow-covered peaks rose majestically in the distance, surrounded by endless greenery and fresh air.I had forgotten how much I loved mountains. As a child, before my parents had died and left me at Crestfall, I used to climb the hills behind our village just to watch the sunrise. I used to dream about exploring territories beyond our borders, about living a life that belonged entirely to me.Then I became Shadow Luna, and every dream I had ever held was traded for the hope that Kael would one day look at me the way he looked at Serena. But now, breathing in the sharp pine scent, I realized I no longer had to live according to anyone's expectations.I was finally free to go wherever I wanted.I unpacked my things into the cabinet, the familiar motions grounding me. Then, I lay down

"Serena, Elara is still your sister. Don't you think the way you speak about her is a bit inappropriate?"Serena froze for a moment, looking embarrassed."I—that is not it. It is just Elara was being rude to you that I could not hold back.""Is that so? I have known Elara longer than you. She has never been anyone's doormat and she has never dangled herself in front of any man. Even when you took everything from her, she did not chase after it. So why are you saying these things about her?"Serena's face paled."Kael, I—""We are monsters," he said, his voice hollow. "She does not deserve any of this."His legs gave out beneath him. He sank to the kitchen floor, his body shaking not from the drug this time, but from something far worse. The memory of Elara's face at the birthday celebration flashed through his mind. She had been bleeding. Her hand had been cut open by the same glass that had scratched Serena. And he had not even looked at her.He had not asked if she was hurt. He had n

The Silver Fern from that night was still in his system. The drug had never fully left, and now its effects were worsening without warning."Elara!"Her name tore from his throat before he could stop it. Silence answered him.He called again, his voice hoarse. "Elara!"Nothing. For years, she had always been there whenever he needed her. Through every attack, every fever, every night his wolf had raged beyond control, Elara had been the one constant he never had to ask for. Now, the silence stretched on, and a cold realization settled in his chest.Elara was truly gone.Turning to the healer who had rushed to his side, Kael gripped the man's collar."Investigate why the drug is still acting on me. It should have faded days ago."The healer checked his pulse, his expression growing increasingly troubled."Alpha, the drug should have faded by now. Serena might have soothed your heat, but it was the shadow luna’s cooking that actually stabilized your system against the Silver Fern. Withou
