Chapter three: The walking dead

Alice's pov

August fourteenth, Tuesday.

August fourteen, I never thought I'd die. No I did know one day my pathetic life would come to an end, I mean when you're responsible for mass murder you become quite aware that death would come knocking down your door at a very young age.

I just never thought I'd die so pathetically. It was bad enough that my life was so pitiful but did my death have to be so unmemorable that I died with a couple of gang bangers?

Death felt peaceful though, never thought I'd have a peaceful life after death since I wasn't the model citizen during my time alive. It felt oddly nice that I could find peace in the dark, and just be– whoosh. Something shifted in me. That wasn't right, you shouldn't be able to feel in death.

Whoosh. I felt another part of me shift, and it felt like I was frowning. Frowning? Dead people didn't frown. Another sudden gush noise blew past with the wind. I felt my fingers twitch, and my heart raced fast. What the fuck? Dead people didn't experience anything.

Whoosh the loud noise cut through the wind again, and fanned my face this time. Bloody fu– My eyes shot open to the red skies.

My lashes twitched and my hands balled into a fist. Did I just rise from the dead? Was the first question that crossed my mind as my eyes narrowed from the red skies to my body that automatically jerked into a sitting position when my eyes opened.

One hand came down to the other tentatively. I quickly withdrew that hand then brought it up my nose to scratch the itch in my nose, and pick the booger hanging in there. Not dead, I thought knowing dead people did not feel the urge to pick their noses.

A zombie, mortification filled me with that thought but I shook my head when another crossed my mind. Zombies don't pick their noses.

Whoosh, I was pulled from my thoughts by the sound of something big cutting through the winds again and fanning my face causing my short, short hair to blow back.

My eyes raised up to the red skies with four pointed stars filling them in broad daylight. I was pretty sure it was noon from how bright the freakishly red sun was shining.

I didn't– I blinked with my veins popping from how hard my jaw locked as my eyes caught a big flying creature in the sky and something else in the shape of a man in the sky. I didn't think that man shaped thing was a flying animal because it didn't have wings.

It wasn't just these two creatures flying, it looked like they were fighting, no brawling, and whatever it was that was actually going on the man shaped creature was hit hard by the large flying beast that he headed straight for the ground.

I contemplated stretching my hands out to catch the man shaped creature but quickly recovered from the ridiculous thought knowing that would never work so I hurriedly got up my ass and began to run away from the direction of the falling man shaped creature.

In the back of my mind I could tell that I was possibly running from someone or something that needed my help but for a conceivable reason I ran faster.

I was dashing through unfamiliar territory with inhumane speed that I'd always refrained from using. There were trees and grasses everywhere that I even got flogged in the face by an oddly long wet branch.

Screech, I heard as I ran with the speed of a blur. Turning back to glance at what it was that was screeching so close to my direction, I didn't foresee the overgrown tree roots and I would've tripped if it wasn't for my heightened senses.

I managed to land on my feet but still in a very rough manner. I didn't find the time to recollect myself when something strong landed in my head… quite literally on my head.

I groaned loudly. "Fucking, shit!" My eyes descended down on the thing that fell on my head… quite literally on my head.

A grey item the length of a pen. The thing had a twisted shape with the pointy end of a pen. My hand dropped from my head and I slowly picked the thing up. It felt like a pen, it looked exactly like a pen if it wasn't for the twisted shape it had, it pretty much looked like fancy pe–

Screech, I heard from a close proximity. My eyes widened and I reluctantly looked straight ahead. I couldn't quite describe the monstrosity heading my way in my head but it didn't look happy. It's burning red eyes did look like it was gleaming with something exciting but I still doubted the beast was happy.

It looked like a giant black bird on fire. Literally on fire, and heading my way with a fierce speed. Something clicked, my brain restarted and I began running for my life.

The bird was still heading my way but I ran faster for my life. I could feel the beast gaining closer without turning back so I continued running.

Oh shit, oh shit was blaring in my mind as I zoomed past trees trying not to get knocked down by one of the ginormous trees around.

Flames heated my back and I knew it was closer so I slid past the overgrown roots of a tree and with blur speed climbed onto one of the trees to mask my presence with the density of the trees.

I could still hear screeching and well….screeching as I ran on the trees with the wide leaves and tall branches masking me. The noises of the fiery beast began to fade the further I ran on the trees.

I stopped instantaneously when I almost fell off a tree, currently lacking another tree to jump onto.
