Chapter Six

"Oh hey Khalan is not here." Adam said as he opened the door and saw Mike standing there.

"I want to talk with you, Adam. Can we?"

Adam was living with Khalan for two months already; they were in their best phase after all the drama. Adam did not know why but he did not like Mike but to Khalan Adam was just being jealous since they spend a lot of time together. Time that Khalan was supposed to spend with his family, but for Adam it was not jealousy, it was something else, he felt that Mike purposely did not want him and Khalan together but he did not know why.

"Yeah sure, come on in." Adam said politely.

"I have never been to Khalan's house before, very nice." Mike said with a sip of venom. That didn't come unnoticed by Adam.

"Yeah, our house is beautiful isn't it?" Mike only gave a small smirk to the boy. "So what do you want to talk about with me Mike?" Passing by the living room Mike saw family pictures; Adam with Khalan and their daughters just after Kayla was born still in the maternity room. Everybody had a big smile, the happiness patterned on their faces. Khalan's family was perfect.

Too perfect, Mike thought.

"Khalan told me you two have known each other since high school right?" Mike asked but didn't bother to look at Adam to see his response.

"Yes we've been together ever since."

"Khalan is getting more famous every day." Mike says and sees a picture of Khalan with Adam. Adam was sitting in Khalan's lap as he looked at the person who was taking the picture. Khalan was kissing his neck. They looked so happy. "Do you know that if the media discovers about Khalan's relationship with you his career will be over?" Mike put the photo back at its place and turned around to look at a very annoyed Adam.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean dear Adam that the media can't know about you and your daughters. That's going to destroy Khalan's career before it even starts, we need to focus on making him become number one and this..." Mike said pointing around the house. "Is distracting him from his goal."

"This?" Adam was controlling his anger. Whom this man thinks he is to enter his house and say whatever he wants.

"Yes and if you love him as much as he says you do you'll understand."

Adam could not believe what he was hearing, he was agitated, he wanted to slap this intruder in the face and scream for him to leave his house.

"What?"

"I think is better if you live in another house, Khalan can no longer be seen near yo-"

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" Adam couldn't hold his anger any longer. This man came to his house to say that Adam can't be living here. With his boyfriend? With the father of his daughters?

And Mike has the audacity to laugh on his face.

"You're funny Adam but I don't know if you remember the contract both of you signed? Did you read the small print?" Adam felt his throat close at how venom and malicious Mike's words were. "Oh I guess you didn't but since I'm a nice guy I'll tell you what was written there. On the contract, you signed in the small print was written that you agreed to maintain your relationship with Mr. Khalan Amaechi a secret until the remainder of the contract and if any parts do not respect the clauses of the contract the penalty is the loss of eighty-five percent of all of Mr. Amaechi assets. And if the media knows about you, Khalan's career will be over and he will be poor again. So imagine Adam, Khalan losing the career he always dreamed of, all of his money gone, having to be poor again, losing everything he has ever achieved, then I ask you…”

“Do you think he still will love you?" Adam felt the tears dropping in his face. He did not want to believe what he was hearing, he knew that something was wrong with Mike but he did not know he was a monster.

"Should I start to look for somewhere else for you to live?"

---

Adam

"Aaliyah can you please obey me? Didn't I tell you to not get your sister up; you are going to bring her down." I say taking Kayla from Aaliyah. I need to calm my mood; I have been moody since the breakup.

Khalan was not talking to me. I found it so funny. He called me a whore, and thinks he got the right to be mad?

No, we are not like that anymore, the same way my Khalan was gone, the sweet and idiot Adam was gone too.

I am tired of being made of a fool. If I was a bad person only a simple DNA test could end Khalan's entire career, but no, I am not a bad person, as much as Khalan deserves it, I am not capable of doing it.

Who must be happy about this is Mike. That snake always tried to separate us, now he got Khalan all to himself. Good for him.

I don't know what my problem is, why I still think about him. I need to occupy my mind with something or I am going to go crazy.

"Girls lunch is ready." I announce and the two come running. Kayla got this habit of running around the house from Aaliyah.

"Hey, no running."

Picking Kayla up I put her on her chair, Aaliyah is already sitting down in her chair waiting for her plate.

I am not the best at cooking, but I know how to make amazing pasta, everybody always compliments me.

"Can Kayla and I play with Brenda?" Aaliyah asks with a mouth full of pasta.

"Did I already tell you to not speak with your mouth full? It is impolite. I'll speak with Mr. Brown later if you two can go to his house."

My doorbell rings. I get up to answer it, when I open; my father is on the other side. I think he got a sense, whatever when I am upset he shows up even if I did not say anything to him. Dad things, he says.

"Hi dad."

"Hey son, how are you doing?" He asks, hugging me.

"Good. Come on in."

"He's here?" I know he is asking about Khalan, my father always had a problem with him but I was so blind that I always thought he was just being difficult.

Now I see how right he was.

"No, he already left."

"Really? You told me he was going to stay the whole month."

"Yeah well... We fight and we're not together anymore."

"Oh."

"Is alright dad I know you don't like him."

"Is it that I don't like him, Adam. I don't like the situation he put you in." I smile at him.

"Girls, grandpa is here." A minute later Aaliyah comes running. No matter how many times I tell this girl ‘don’t run’ in the house, she keeps doing it.

"Grandpa."

"Hey my love." Dad says filling her with kisses.

"We are eating pasta." She announces.

"Hum the only thing your daddy does right." He says and she giggles, these two are like best friends.

"Come on, let's finish lunch, the food must be cold."

---

"And how are you feeling about this?" Dad asked me. We were sitting in the balcony enjoying a much-deserved drink, the girls were at Brenda's house, I asked Andre if they could come to play and my dad insisted that he wanted to meet the guy, so he went there with me. Andre is a nice person and he takes very much care of his daughter.

"Well, it's weird."

"How so?"

"We've been together since high school dad; Khalan is all I know, the only man I've been with. I feel strange like something is missing."

"It's going to take a while for you to get used to it."

"Yeah."

"But maybe this is an opportunity to meet someone new." He says eyeing me. "I saw how your neighbor looked at you."

"Please dad don't, he was the cause of the fight. Also he's straight I-"

"He told you this?"

"No but-"

"Oh so you're assuming? I raised you better than this Adam." My dad says with a smirk.

"Can we stop talking about him please?"

"Fine I'll let that go for now." He winks at me. "So Kayla's birthday is coming, do you have any plans?"

"I'm thinking I'll do a little party here. Inviting some people. I thought about doing a mermaid theme since she loves it."

"That's going to be so cute." I smile imagining my little nugget in a mermaid costume.

"If you need any help you know I'm around."

"Yeah but Khalan's mother already offered to help. Let her have it."

"You two came from dislike each other to be very close. That's nice to see." He fills our cups with more wine.

"Well I don't blame her; she thought I was keeping her granddaughters from her. Khalan stupid ass was afraid to tell her the true." I say sipping in a very good wine.

"Did you notice how many times you said his name already?" He asked seriously and truly, I did not notice.

I am not going to lie and say it was easy to break up with him. That is the hardest thing I ever did but some things in life are necessary. He sees me, as I was his property, as I was always going to be here whatever the shit he did. The Adam from some years may be accepted but not the Adam from today, he has two daughters who are his priorities. Hurts a lot, I never felt something like this before.

"I'm not going to stop loving him out of nowhere dad. I'm trying but. It's hard." It is as if someone is squeezing my heart to stop from beating.

"I know honey, come here; you're never too old for dad's caring." He says patting his lap and I lay my head there, always being my safety place. "You so strong Adam I think you never realized how much, you keep pushing, you keep trying, you don't give up when you put your heart in something. Was always like that ever since little. I have faith in you honey. I know you made the right decision even if it is hurting you. One day maybe it will stop hurting, one day you will feel nothing more, but put in your mind that so far you did your best. You tried. Only works if two people want the same thing."

I feel the tears running in my face. My father was at my side at every step of the way even if I was right or wrong. The amount of times we fight, the amount of shit I said to him and he never left, never abandoned me.

"Thank you."

"For what?" He asks, passing his fingers on my hair.

"For never give up on me."

"You and my granddaughters are the most precious things I have. I'll be here for as long as I can breathe."

"I love you dad." I say getting up to hug him.

"I know Adam, and I love you too. That will pass honey, nothing in life is forever."

---

"Hey I came to pick the girls; they must be giving you a lot of trouble." I say to Andre as he opens the door.

"Nah, they are angels. Its nice Brenda had such good friends. Come on in." He says and opens the door for me.

As I enter I look around the house, it is incredible how his house is always tidy even him having a four years old daughter.

My house could never.

"You're alright? You look sad." Sometimes I curse how I can't hide my emotions.

"Yeah I'm alright."

"Sorry if I am being nosy but that guy I met the other day. He's your baby daddy?"

"Yes, he is. Sorry about that day, he can be an idiot when he wants to."

"Is alright, I hope I didn't cause any trouble between you two." He asks looking me in the eyes.

"No you didn't do nothing, Khalan was being disrespectful. He didn't know about the situation and was assuming things." I say, tired of talking about him. Looks like that was all I did today. "We broke up, actually."

"Sorry to hear that but know that you have a friend here if you want to talk." He says offering me a smile.

"Thanks Andre." I look at my watch. "Can you call the girls for me please; I need to give bath and dinner to them. Parent duties."

He laughs. "Yeah I know how it is."

"If you wanted Brenda can spend the day tomorrow with us, since you stayed with the girls today. That will give you some rest."

"Thanks but I was planning to have a picnic with Brenda tomorrow, maybe you guys could join us."

"I don't want to intrude."

"No Adam, truly, I will really appreciate having you guys with us." He says, looking like he was flirting with me, but I have been out of this game for so long that maybe I am imagining things.

"Well, okay." I say blushing.

"Alright, is a date.”
