Chapter 4(Scared)

I was really scared of darkness and ran as my hormones were signalling that my mate was nearby.

I entered the cave and walked through the path which was clearly visible in the moonlight and which went upward towards the cliff. Abba had told me about it, so I climbed it very easily. It is a local tale around the tribe that the climb to the cliff is really difficult and they say that if you reach there on the full moon day you will see the beautiful lagoon twinkling with stars at midnight as the fairies come down and swim in the blue lagoon.

Well coming to the point why am I here well as you know I need to find my mate. But this story began a long time ago when my Abba was maybe twenty-four years old. He has been bestowed the title of the chief or the king of warriors of our tribe by my grandfather and it has continued through generations.

My grandfather brought the awareness of education in our tribe that is the Glaros tribe and he went out and got educated in the outside world.

This custom has been continued but we are supposed to be indigenous people and have hidden from the outside world. The reason our territory is unexplored, we have a lot of myths and supernatural powers hidden inside our territory.

We have modern farming equipment, so we have a surplus of crops and occasionally we do bring food supplies from the outside world. We are not solely dependent on crops alone as we have a pharmaceutical company which makes herbal medicine, which was started by our father who was keen on working on his own and studied medicine but he had the knowledge of the herbs and when he represented himself at a world medical conference and showed the test of his medicine and its effect. People recognized him and he made a deal with a famous company in Italy which further supplies in other countries. My father has made quite a name but keeps himself anonymous.

He shows himself only if they require him to represent his medicine but after my brother took over. He usually travels abroad and handles the business. While my father takes care of the manufacturing. The people of our village are recruited for the making of medicine and everyone is contented with what we have.

This brings me back to my Abba, my father. My Abba had told me that when he was young he was a very inquisitive young lad and would go deep into the jungle to get herbs the blue lagoon was a highly restricted area as it was supposed to be very holy and the water which flowed down from the blue lagoon was warm and it had medicinal properties and because of which our tribesman never felt sick. But most importantly it was way too high and had a very tough climb.

My Abba was very curious and one day he gave an excuse to his father that he was going to look for herbs and went inside the cave. But it is difficult to climb up and it took him almost the whole day to climb the lagoon. But he was a very stubborn lad and he finally made it.

***************

As I reached the lagoon, I was dumbstruck as it was beautiful and quiet. The water was looking quiet inviting the moonlight fell on the water and it sparkled like stars. It had a blue orchid all around the place and it made the lagoon look more beautiful it was so enchanting that I sat down and was lost in its beautiful surroundings.

I wondered if this is how my Abba felt when he first came here.

Abba reached the lagoon and just like me, he was spellbound and just stared at its beauty and praised the god for its creation.

He walked and sat near the water and put his foot inside it. It was warm and inviting and his feet were relaxed. So he closed his eyes and tried to relax.

Suddenly he heard someone sobbing. And he was a little scared as he had heard of witches. He walked behind to run but somehow her feet dragged him towards the sobbing woman and he saw a beautiful woman who was naked sitting near the far end of the lagoon and the white orchids were making her look very heavenly.

My dad was awestruck with her beauty though he had studied outside and had seen beautiful foreign women. He fell in love with my mother who was his mate and the daughter of the chief of the Kullina clan.

My dad was mesmerized by the enchanting glow on her face and walked towards her but when she saw him she was scared and looked at him like frightened prey.

My dad felt pity for her and asked her who she was, she told him that she was Athena a fairy and had been left there by her friends by accident as she had dropped her pearl necklace somewhere which is required to reach her land.

For some time my dad wanted to laugh thinking do fairies exist but looking at her. He knew she was telling the truth and started looking for her necklace but she could not find it.

She was crying even more so my dad went and sat beside her and asked. “why are you crying” please stop crying I am looking for it, once we find it you can go back.” He tried to assure her.

In between the sobs, the fairy told him that she could not go till the harvest moon next year as they had been assigned a cycle and her cycle to come to the blue lagoon was the time of the harvest moon.

My dad was speechless as he did not know what to do but then he immediately told her to come along with him to his village as she could stay there as long as she wanted till her cycle was completed and then go back to her land with her friends.
